There aren't too many teams looking for franchise goalies this summer. I think that the two sides realize this, and a deal will get done in the 30-40 million range.

To Ant's post, I agree. It's getting to the point where teams are pretty content with their goalies, due to all the talent in the league right now.

Because I'm bored at work (;)), here's how it's looking. Not too many question marks:

Anaheim: Hiller
Boston: Thomas
Buffalo: Miller
Calgary: Kiprusoff
Carolina: Ward
Chicago: Crawford
Columbus: Mason
Colorado: Elliott
Dallas: Lehtonen
Detroit: Howard
Edmonton: Khabibulin
Florida: ??? (Clemmenson)
Los Angeles: Quick
Minnesota: Fernandez
Montreal: Price
Nashville: Rinne
New Jersey: Brodeur
NYI: DiPietro (:lol more like Montoya)
NYR: Lundqvist
Ottawa: Anderson
Philadelphia: ??? (Bobrovsky)
Phoenix: ??? (LaBarbera)
Pittsburgh: Fleury
San Jose: Niemi
St. Louis: Halak
Tampa Bay: Roloson (Smith if he retires)
Toronto: ??? (Reimer/Gustavsson)
Vancouver: Luongo
Washington: ??? (Neuvirth, Varlamov)
Winnipeg: Pavelec

I think Backstrom is the guy in Minnesota. Unless he's a free agent which he could be because I have no idea.

There are rumors here that CBJ might go after Tuuka Rask

Can you link the rumor? I'm actually very curious about it. I just can't see Rask going anywhere and I'm curious to see what this person thinks the logic for both teams would be in this deal.

I can look for it later - I was driving to work this morning and on the Columbus Dispatch building they have one of those scorlling news tickers - the headline was "Jackets interested in Bruins Rask"

:lol I figured he was a free agent - I have no idea why the Bruins would trade him either

Rask is signed through next year and then he's a RFA.

Especially with Thomas close to retirement (he's playing out of his mind, but 37 is not young), Rask's value is very high to the Bruins. They may be interested now, but I don't know if they'd be interested in Boston's price tag.

Yeah that's the thinking I have. We have arguably the best goalie in the league with another potential franchise goalie waiting for him to retire. It's really a perfect goaltending situation to have for the Bruins and I doubt the CBJ's will want to part with what the Bruins will ask which will likely involve Nash (obviously the Bruins would have to give them something else in addition to Nash).

Rebecca De Mornay 06-08-2011 12:17 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

If CBJ traded Nash they might as well just move the team to Hartford the same day. He's the only reason worth going to watch them play. He also loves playing here for some reason - no pressure maybe

Honestly, I don't know how the Flyers can possibly take a cap hit of $6mil or more right now with the cap space that they don't have. I mean, Bob was so solid during the regular season, especially for a rookie. Yeah, he had a rough playoffs, but I don't think 6 starts in the playoffs without success means he can't be a great goalie in the regular season and playoffs. Yeah, last year Niemi was a rookie and played well in the playoffs, but he was much older than Bobrovsky is. I just think Philly has a really solid G already. I know that great goalies can take teams on playoff runs, but depth is what wins the Cup. I don't think you sacrifice depth for a goalie.

I'm hoping for something on the low end of 30 million. Flyers need to tell Bryz how it is--if he's serious about contending for a Cup, he might have to take a decrease in salary, or at least backload his contract.

Flyers beat reporter also stated the Bob might be on the trade market, technically makes sense because of his cap hit--but something I do not like one bit.

I mean, Bryz made $4.25m last season and is coming off 2 of his best seasons. The guy is not going to go along with a small raise. Someone will give him $6mil a year. I don't think the Flyers can afford to pay 2 goalies a total of $8 million.

The Hockey News noted that Toronto might be the team to push hardcore for Bryzgalov, while giving Reimer another season in the AHL.

Judging by that list, I'd say teams that would have interest (other than Philly) would be Colorado, Columbus and Toronto.

People are saying the Cap can go up anywhere from 2-4 million.

I think he's going to get about 6 million.

Boosh and Leighton will be gone which will free up roughly 2.5 million

Zherdev will be gone which will free up 2 million.

I think Leino will be gone which will free up almost 1 million

I wouldn't be surprised if the Flyers end up trading Carter to dump some of his salary and pick up some role players in exchange for depth.

I will not be shedding a single tear if they have to part ways with ol' frosted tips

One year ago today (6/9/10) the Blackhawks won the Stanley Cup and it became not just the greatest night of my life, but the greatest summer of my life. I really think the Hawks had a shot at it this year, and I feel like we missed it by the few inches that Sharp missed his shot by. We'll contend next year, and hopefully a year from today I can do it all again.

Happy Anniversary Hawks fans!!!

I can definitely see Toronto making a big push for Bryzgalov.

Colorado seems content to go with Elliott. I'm on the fence for this one... I know they're trying to put together a young roster that can grow together, but I guess my anxiety just comes his inexperience. His stats won't show, but Elliott played pretty well in front of a really bad Colorado defense for the last half of last season, but how he will do as a full-time starter is another thing altogether, and that makes me nervous.

If the Flyers are going to trade Carter for scraps and let a bunch of role players go, they can expect a season like the Hawks experienced in 2010/11. That's not the way to win a Cup.

Only issue with Toronto going after Bryz would they have enough cap space left to maker a run at Richards too?

They would definitely have to decide between the two of them. I know the rumor mill is reporting Bryzgalov, but Reimer played well for them last year and Gustavsson, despite his injury issues, has a lot of promise. If it were up to me, I'd choose Richards because of the huge hole at center. The Leafs really have nothing even close to a first line pivot man.

EDIT: This is, of course, assuming they could convince one or both of these players to even consider playing for them...
