Same with JvR. He was never going to be a 35-40-goal scorer in the Flyers system despite the fact he has the ability to do it in Toronto.

Hoping the Wings can hold on here.

They had about 12,000 total I'd guess, much better than expected and not bad considering state of the team and the weather last night. That's the first time they've notched consecutive wins since the end of October and against two pretty strong opponents.

wow, did someone say Loui was past his prime? So much dumb.

Loui is an underrated player because he was stuck on a terrible Dallas team. Other than Jamie Benn, Ericsson was their main threat. I wouldn't consider Ericsson a bust yet. Wasn't he hurt by John Scott earlier this season? Not to mention that the Bruins are a very solid team, it takes a little time to get chemistry down on teams like that.

I'm in the school of thought that sees the Seguin trade as a neccessary evil. Seguin might not have had his breakout season with the Bruins this season because of where he was on the depth chart. He's certainly getting more ice time and a bigger load of responsibility in Dallas though.

I have seen plenty of Loui and always thought he was a super underrated player. But he is 28. That's past your prime for most players. Or at the very least, very very near to the end of your prime.

Not surprising that a Flyers fan thinks trading Seguin was a "necessary evil." Is that from the "trading Richards & Carter was necessary" school of thought? Meanwhile Jeff Carter and Mike Richards have their names on the Cup....

HallowBillies7 12-07-2013 05:10 PM

Hopefully Loui is ok after that hit to start the game.

Thornton going to be suspended. Orpik was being a punk this whole game, hope he's going to be alright though.

Being a punk? For a clean hit? Please. Then gets mugged by a criminal. Classy.

Thornton and Neal with both absolutely be getting suspensions as they should. What Thornton did was very dirty but in no way would I have ever thought something like that would have happened.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I've never seen Thornton pull anything like that before. The guy is one of the most respected players in terms of fighters to the point where some fans get mad at him for respecting the "code" so much.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Neal was dirty too.

This whole game has been garbage.

HallowBillies7 12-07-2013 05:47 PM

Was that not Orpik that hit Marchand? If that wasn't then I take my punk comment back. Still Thornton deserves what he gets.

Neal is the one who knee'd Marchand. What a joke. Hopefully Thornton is suspended for a long while.

Agreed. The aftermath of this game is going to be a giant cluster fuck unfortunately. I'm seriously shocked at what Thornton did but like I said I don't think anyone could have expected that result and I know Thornton certainly didn't.

AHhahah what a joke. Bruins announcer basically just made that case that since Orpik wouldn't fight Thornton, it would have diffused the situation. Hahah what a joke. Orpik has to answer for, what again? A clean hit and his teammate delivering a cheap shot? What a joke. Yeah we need guys like Thornton in the game.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Bron you are seriously a fucking joke if you think Thornton has no place in the league. The guy can play hockey. He's far from a goon. What he did was awful and I'm not defending it whatsoever but you clearly have not seen the guy play much if you don't think he's capable of playing the game.

HallowBillies7 12-07-2013 06:00 PM

Calling Thornton just a goon is hilarious.

not sure what you're talking about. they said what eventually happened to orpik probably wouldn't have happened if he fought thorton at first. that wasn't going to happen so thorton kept going. he went too far, but thorton's a skilled player, not at all a goon. he can just fight well

The guy "can play hockey" to the tune of 10 points in his last 71 games while playing sheltered minutes. If you think he is there for any reason other than to fight and be an enforcer when the time comes then, well, I don't know what to tell you.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Thornton is an energy guy and he can certainly play hockey. The Neal hit was disgusting as well and the result could have been just as bad as what Thornton did. I'm done discussing it though because both teams have been dirty tonight and arguing over it isn't going to convince either side differently.

Have you ever watched a Bruins game? The 4th line has been our best line at times, they cause havoc.

Being an enforcer is absolutely a huge reason why he's on the team and I wouldn't argue otherwise. But the guy is more than capable of skating a regular shift and if you look back to cup finals in 2011 he was integral in turning the momentum of the series when he was put in the lineup.

rickyh24 12-07-2013 06:13 PM

Yes I know what they said and what Brickley said was utterly moronic. Orpik didn't have to fight anybody for any reason. Thornton went after him for either his clean hit on Eriksson or for Neal's dirty bullshit on Marchand. Either way, it makes no sense.

And no, Thornton is not "skilled" compared to NHL hockey players. There are plenty of guys in the AHL who can provide what he provides to a hockey team. He eats up 4th line minutes while playing shitty.
