Sad that I wasn't sure if you meant severe cold in the weather or people getting sick. Thanks COVID.

And it’s going to be so cold that not only will they have to warm the ice, they’ll have to keep the pucks in freezers to keep them from getting too cold. :lol

Happy New Year NHL crew!

We were going to go to our first hockey game since the pandemic tonight but neither of us were up to it.

It was very difficult to find someone who wanted free glass tickets :lol Finally did though.

:lol you will probably be right about that. I was careful not to go overboard and brag about them being #1 right now. I fully expect a return to earth. This team came in to the year as an expected fringe playoff team, so anything more than that is icing on the cake for me!

Man, what an idiot I was.

* I still think they are pretty good, but they need 3 new goaltenders if they want to do anything meaningful.

Watching the standings the Pens have been scaring me for a while now. I would actually love for the Rangers to play them right now to see how they match up. I really think the Pens are going to make the MET crowded at the top with NY, Was, and Car.

So, when I went to the Oilers v Kraken game in Seattle on Dec 3rd I sat with a bunch of Oilers fans. One of them went on a lot about how this Oilers team was special and truly believed they were a top cup contender. I debated with him agreeing that they were improved but lacked scoring depth, defense and goaltending worried me. He got pretty mad so I backed off of the debate in order to enjoy the game and just have a friendly conversation with him and his friends.

The Oilers have won 2 and lost 11 (including OTL) since that conversation. Yikes.

All that said, I do hope they turn it around. For me, the playoffs are more fun with more Canadian teams in it.

Re: The NHL Thread

Rough game for the Rangers. Gallant has not faired well against his old team. The Rangers have struggled against western opponents, so it will be interesting to see if they rebound or take a dip on this trip out west. 7 wins and 10 loses against teams in the west. A win over Nashville early in the season is the only time they beat a competitive team in the west that is a solid playoff team. Nashville also beat them the second time they played.

Interesting that as good as the Rangers look, the solid teams in the west seem to have no problem beating them. Makes the rest of this trip very key to seeing if the Rangers are for real or not.

You got your help last night. I have zero doubt that the Pens will finish ahead of NY in the standings. The Rangers give up way too many shots per night to stay as good as they have been record wise. Eventually that will catch up and the Rangers record will probably be a WC team with how good the MET is.

The Pens have the experience of players who have won when it matters. As much as it annoys me, I think that is why the Pens and Caps are still dangerous and probably better bets this year than Carolina or NY. Until a team proves it when it matters, they are still not for real. Carolina, NY, Florida all have something to prove before I believe they are great teams.

Yeah those are cool to see!

Also, for the Pens fans, The Hockey Guy will be doing a YouTube video on their 10 in a row streak. A fun little tradition he started a while back on doing a video any time a team hits 10 wins in a row.

JFC, how does that city still have a team?
