I’ll also admit that I’m getting a little restless about the album too. It seems like all systems go again, and I’m desperate to finally get it and listen to it. I’m excited about the studio version of the songs we know, excited to see if any older songs make the cut, and even more excited to listen to songs we don’t know. I’m also a sucker for looking at album art, song titles and song times.

I’ve become pretty jaded about expecting DMB to put out an album, so l’m trying to temper my excitement and remind myself how many times we’ve been through this. I’m crossing my fingers and toes that this time it’s gonna happen, but I’m keeping my expectations set to nothing.

I still am surprised by the lack of rumors and insider nuggets. No song information or anything and we’re supposedly in the month of the announcement. Seems weird.

Normally tho this place is buzzing with song titles, some vague song descriptions, songs in the running, etc. feels like any info we have on these lines were given to us over a year ago and not updated much since. Could just be that covid made their circle even smaller i guess.

Well Scootle gave us the August timeline, and Bruce mentioned the fall tour is indeed meant for the album but then mentioned the DMB camp maybe is dragging their feet as the deadline nears. So I’d say a lot of the insiders probably would know once it’s set in stone and the reason we don’t have much to go off of is because the official camp doesn’t know for sure yet either. Maybe Dave is being true to his word and can’t stop tweaking things.

Yes. But based on what the few in the know have said since, it seems much has possibly changed since then so you’d think there would be more out there than the over a year old rumors.

Unless things haven’t changed which then makes me wonder why we still haven’t heard this thing.

Yeah, although we're not sure which of those (except most likely MME, WATM, and TOT and not SFTW) survived the feedback from management. So, there is a bit of a void as to what the final tracklist could look like, including whether and which older songs have been revisited (perhaps Break For It and Break Free?)

Also, aside from Something to Tell My Baby, is there a possibility of any new songs written in the past year? We had some insight into the 2020/21 studio sessions, but not much about 21-22.

My main question is - the reason it didn't come last year is because their management said it wasn't good enough or something, and the band started to look at a few older songs to add to it? Is that really the deal? I always had chalked it up to Dave just never being completely satisfied with it and always wanting to tweak it, as he said.

Well, considering how many Batson Sessions songs were completely unknown to us for eons (including Come On), I think it is of course entirely possible there are all sorts of recently written songs from 2020 to even 2022 (as we are so far into the year) that we don't know about. And any of those could be on the album, sure. Especially if someone (mgmt, Dave) wasn't happen with the initial batch of leaked song titles we all know of.

From recent interviews, etc. it really seems like it’s Dave vs. management. That’s not good or bad but just what it is. Seems like they have different directions they want to go.

My understanding from what has been stated from the insiders here is that the band sent a proposed final cut to management around July of last year, and management wanted adjustments to it. After the tour, they went back, clearly did some additional work on the new songs that we know about (MME and TOT both had obvious tweaks this year), and likely revisited some older songs for the album as well.



No question that there's still a bunch out there that we don't know about. I'm just curious how things went particularly from last November to May this year. Were they focused only on tweaking the songs from their first round and revisiting some old ones to fit with this album or were there entirely new songwriting sessions?

What's crazy is I'm a big fan of the changes that were made. The Only Thing has a lot more life now that it's faster, and the chorus is much much better. Madman's intro is awesome and helps build the tension of the song. I'm disappointed that WATM is a little shorter, but the end is certainly tighter and still lets the music breathe. So if those were management driven changes, I have to say I agree with them.

Really hope there are some good bonuses this time around. Certainly they will have some studio cuts that won't make the album that could make a great bonus CD.

This is something I hope for too. But hearing Dave say management wants him to put out a record full of unreleased songs makes me think they're banking good songs and intentionally not releasing stuff like Sugar Will, Bismarck, Death on the High Seas, etc. Why put stuff like Break For It, Singing from the Windows, and A Dream So Real on a free bonus disc when they could use them for a compilation album down the road?

I feel the same thing about the studio album remasters. After they put out Granny on Under the Table, I thought we'd get that treatment for all the albums. Imagine getting a Busted Stuff remaster with Sweet Up and Down, JTR and Monkey Man as bonus tracks? Or a Big Whiskey remaster with that Sugar Will? I feel like they stopped doing that so they can save these songs for a future compilation unfortunately.

I thought about this too. I mean we know for certain keeping these songs in the vault allows them to consider them in sessions like these, so I know it's a bit of a pipe dream. We'll just have to see what the final tracklist is to know if Dave has really accepted using these songs for albums or if once again new songs beat them out.

Also maybe worth keeping in mind that roughly 3 times in the past, DMB has had soft plans to use leftover studio material from one album to try to follow it up with another album quickly- only for that to go south. Stand Up Part II, Come Tomorrow II, and recently Carson mentioned he thought they may have been prepping that with Big Whiskey. Maybe one of these sessions, that plan will actually come to be.

I can’t wait for the day… and hopefully this month… I come on this thread and a reliable insider posts “official announcement coming tomorrow”…

The lack of info has been frustrating but also been fun building up the excitement.
