Allegedly the GM's are in a worry about the emergency goalie appearances so much that that they had a meeting about changing it. I know Toronto drives the bus so to speak with rules but this makes no sense. When Scott Foster played half a period and blanked Winnipeg 2 years ago it was a feel good story and was news even outside the hockey fan community - guess if you beat Toronto it is a penalty. This just makes no sense, why fix something that is not broken?

Quote:

They're reportedly worried about the experience level and skill of the emergency backup. Sportsnet's Brian Burke, a former VP of NHL hockey operations, was outraged that a goalie over 40 was the option, saying "it was embarrassing for the NHL" and that there were "a hundred goalies in the greater Toronto area" who were younger, had substantially more junior and minor league experience and could have played.

"It happens very, very rarely, but when it happens, it obviously raises everybody's attention to the issue, and whether there are fixes that need to be made to that particular issue," Daly said via NHL.com. "There's no easy fixes to it. Particularly, we have to work with the [NHL] Players' Association. Who's a player? Who's not a player? What qualifies all of that? But obviously we want what's best for the game, and we want to make sure people aren't putting themselves in danger by playing goal in a National Hockey League game. ... So that's obviously something we have to continue to work through."
Since the institution of backup goalies being signed in 65-66 this has happened 3 times and one guy played only 7 seconds - basically standing there watching the final face off and watching the clock tick down. Then you have Foster in 2018 and Ayres last week. I am not seeing an issue and the fans seem to love it plus once in a blue moon some random guy gets to live his dream if only for one night - likely the night of his life. In the history of emergency goalies not one has thankfully been hurt in 55 years so I don't think having a zamboni driver or accountant potentially getting hurt is a large concern of the league. Why change this?

Thoughts?

Big game at MSG today for the Rangers. Will be very telling as to if this team is about to take the next step and be a playoff team or if they are still one season away. Losing Kreider really sucks, but it is a part of the game. Flyers are playing great hockey so it will be a challenge for NY today. Also interested to see how Hank plays having not seen a game in about a month.

Not looking good for the Rangers. Starting Hank looks questionable right now at down 2-0. Both goals he seemed out of position or gave up a big rebound. Flyers are too good right now to miss easy opportunities like that.

Flyers special teams exposing the Rangers like a well oiled machine. Looks like the wheels have fallen off for the Rangers run this year. Next year this team should be right in it though. However, it does need to be said that Hank needs to retire. He is done.

Down 3-0 I am going to utilize my time efficiently and move on to my next daily task, I will follow via push notifications, I just hope it doesn’t become a 7-0 blow out lol.

They had a 9 game winning streak and ran into a team hotter than they are. And better too. Henrik has hardly played any games lately.

Metro is just a tough division right now. If the Flyers win they will be 1 point out of the Metro lead. If they lose they could be 3 points from not making the playoffs

I'm really indifferent about the Caps seeding as any team in the Metro (because they'll get both WC spots) would provide a dangerous matchup

I redact this, Flyers, Islanders & Penguins are .500 on the road

Yea, you want a series vs. the Flyers with home ice advantage. They're a mess on the road and like 24-4-4 at home off the top of my head.
