Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I have no real feeling on the Rangers actions today. I get that they were in on Nash until the end, which probably hurt the possibility of making other deals, but I wish they'd known earlier something wasn't going to happen with Columbus and then go after a few small pieces. From what I read today, Scott isn't the kind of guy that's going to be on a playoff roster here so they basically didn't change +/- .

That said go rangers! Gotta beat the devs.

Not their best period but a good result so far. Nice to see Hagelin getting comfortae in front of the net. Haven't seen a lot of that from him this year.

There should be some fireworks in the 2nd. Tortorella was pissed when the ref made him take Rupp off the ice and then Boulton skated right off when Rupp came on.

Yeah I wanted to see Rupper fight that guy, this is going to be a rough game...seems like its hit or be hit. Great to see Hags score a goal, he is playing with a lot of confidence.

These refs are trying to take the game over. Let em go at it. If they just let the guys drop the gloves there wouldn't be so much shit going on everytime there's a stoppage.

Seriously, what were they thinking giving up ANYTHING for John Scott. Bowman is a genius for pulling this off. What are the Rangers trying to do? Kill themselves? No one even fights Scott anymore, and that's all he is good for. I LOVE it when he fights, and he is a fantastic locker room guy, but he kills your team when he dresses.

Never really understood why Q insisted on dressing him as 6th D instead of on the 4th line. Using him on D just forced Keith and Seabrook to play more minutes.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

So want to go back to all this Nash stuff. So apparently Nash wanted a change in management (so Howson out) which can't really fault him for wanting that at all but ownership decided no which you can agree or disagree it's their right. I am of the thought that that it can set a dangerous precedent letting your star player dictate moves the management level. So then Nash went to Howson for a trade. Howson, whose idea this wasn't, wanted the best deal possible and wasn't going to ship him out just to get rid of him. I think he felt burned by Nash and also by the media who were questioning him why he would get rid of him. All I heard was why why why and I was one of them. I think he got tired of looking like the bag guy trading the franchise when he really didn't want to. And while Nash has the right to want new management and all of that but HE signed that 8 year deal the summer of 09. He could have waited he could have tried for a shorter deal. Everyone here is at fault. Ownership for probably not firing Howson earlier, Howson for not making good deals and Nash for signing that deal. I know there is the thought that well you gotta take the money while you can but he could have tried for a shorter one and be walking in a year or two. This is gonna get ugly.

How Howson still has a job is beyond comprehension to me. If anyone can be trusted in this situation, it should be Nash because without Nash, Columbus is nothing. Fans don't care about management, generally. They are more than likely to take the side of their star player when he goes out and plays on a nightly basis. Why suddenly everyone is jumping on Nash I can't understand. He's been a faithful soldier since he was drafted by the Blue Jackets and as captain, he's frustrated. Ownership and management failed to rebuild this summer. Actually, the word "failed" doesn't even come close to how badly they screwed this up. Nash had every right to ask for a trade because management failed him.

I agree with you on Howson. He has been terrible, well so has everyone there. But I think he got irritated that he was being made out to look like the bad guy while Nash kept saying I love Columbus. I want to win here. Plus his agent trying to force a move faster saying we had an understanding he'd get moved by 3pm. Howson did what was right by the Jackets in wanting a lot. Nash has every right to want a trade and I can't blame him. But the way he shrugged off the trade speculation as just that...speculation, is such a joke. You asked for the trade so don't act like you have no idea what's going on. You signed the 8 year deal with the no-move clause you have to deal with the consequences and will have to wait. Teams have to deal with it when they sign bad deals so so do you. There is fail written all over that situation.

Actually if CBJ gets even close to what they want for Nash and get the #1 pick in June they could be sitting pretty good.

I don't know. In the old rules if you played 60 minutes +5 and got a point for a tie, you should get a point if you lose in the shootout as well. I personally despise the shootout, but I accept that it's going nowhere.

I wasn't for this when someone first proposed a few years back but I am now. It would show who the good teams really were. The mediocre teams would probably still be bunched together and that's fine.

However the NHL won't do this because the current system gives the appearance the teams are closer than they actually are. I'd love to go through each team and figure out under this point system what the standings would be.

I'm with this. I also like in 99-00 when they made it 1 point for an OT loss. Teams were tentative before that because they didn't want to lose the point. That mixed with 4on4 helped the regular season OT I think.

So the Jackets really are that bad huh? No Lidstrom, no Datsyuk, no Quincey..didn't matter. Although the Wings tried to lose it giving up a shorthanded goal early in the 3rd to go down 2-1. But then 4 goals in about 10 minutes or so changed that. Huge 2 points.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Have to say I agree with all the people on the Interwebz who think the Sharks/Flyers game last night had horrible officiating. I like the "let 'em play" attitude, but the refs lost control by letting too much go, on both sides. Only good parts were they called it the same both ways and didn't suddenly change how they were doing it at some random point during the game.

And yeah Tim, PHX doesn't deserve a hockey team. There may be some passionate fans and it would suck for them to have to lose their team, but c'mon.

Phoenix just generally sucks as a sports town. The MLB All-Star game last year had empty seats.

Better than they should be. I still think the Sharks will get in. As I was saying to Dave last night, that big road trip, combined with some injuries, has caused us to slide. But we're in a stretch where 10 of 15 are at home now, and we should get Crankshaft, AKA Dougie Murray, and Martin Havlat back soon. Plus no way Phoenix can keep up their current pace. Right? Right?????

Can't see the Sharks putting together a solid enough run to get the Cup this year, but hey, stranger things have happened, and the great Feb/March records they've had in recent years didn't end up meaning shit, so maybe this year will be the opposite.

:rolleyes

Rinaldo's hit on Galiardi was worse. And did you not notice how Briere stopped short, 3 feet from the boards? Briere needs to not put himself in that position. Hockey players in general need to take responsibility and not put themselves in such a vulnerable position near the boards.

Hawks management/coaching is just depressing me right now. Before the season everything was looking up...

...but right now it seems like our GM is making some wishy-washy moves, our coach has totally lost control of the locker room, and the players just look like they want to coast through half of their games.

It is really amazing to see the team that played so hard last night (two desperate-looking teams in that game, was a damn exciting hockey game), and then compare it to the team that played against the Ducks and Kings.

Cool article on what players with families have to go through upon being traded:

http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/76...deadline-moves

Funny, sometimes we think of them as chess pieces that just get moved around, we forget what it can be like for some of these vets with families. Hit home for an old-timer like me.

The Florida Panthers have a -21 goal differential, and they also actually have a losing record...yet they're winning the division.

That division is HORRIBLE.

Yeah, and they are all going to have to be even better against Detroit. Just get a point out of that game on the road.

Fuck fuck fuck. Rask just went down with a groin injury and our starter in the AHL is injured right now. Thomas is going to be so run down by the time the playoffs start.

PP actually looked competent last night for a change, pretty embarassing for Q they have to bring in Barry Smith to show him how to run one that is functional.

LOLuongo.

3 goals in what, 5 minutes? Awesome. First time in 41 games Vancouver has given up 2 goals or more in the first period.

If you have $1.99, go on Amazon, and watch "Goon".

You can watch the movie in it's entirety before it comes out in theaters. So worth it.

Ya, remember that hit. Kronwall just tried to Havlat Sharp on that hit. Really don't think Bickell should have got a penalty for that though.

Sharp is skating with his head down? And it was a clean hit. Stop complaining. Bickell totally stupid for hitting a guy on his knees along the boards. Could cost the Hawks 1 or 2 points.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Yeah that was a dumb penalty to take
