Yeah. I mean I used to think Zetterberg's was impressive but...he's got nothing on those two. Thornton's is probably more impressive because of how full it is. Burns is kinda scraggly at the ends.

Sid and Murray too.

Sid might not have a lot of goals but he's been all over the ice. There have been numerous times I've pointed to my wife during the game that I was shocked it was Sid on the defensive play.

Last night when he broke up that two on one was a prime example.

Yeah, in terms of Conn Smythe, Crosby and Kessel are a toss up. I love seeing Phil play like he actually cares, and you're right about Sid. All over the ice. It's something I've always liked about him.

Then again no center cheats as much on the dot as Jamie Benn!!!

Sort of hockey related... Thinking my first 5K will be this September. The Red Wings are having one that goes along the Detroit River near JLA and the finish line is center ice and you get some free crap and can get autographs of players who are there that day. If you pay the larger registration fee you get 2 tickets to a Red Wings preseason game. Yeah it's preseason but the cost difference between the regular fee and the larger one is a lot less than you'd pay for a ticket, plus you get a couple extra things. I thought finishing at center ice would be bad ass. Also get tours of the dressing room and stuff.

Not many can! I certainly can't. I'm contemplating going down to the big screen myself. Outside by the big screen will be a wild party, and the weather is supposed to be very nice on Thursday. But you'll be in a big crowd and have to haul a chair there if you want to sit. Going to one of the many local establishments will be fun, too, I'm sure. I'd say it depends on the atmosphere you're looking for.

Regardless, safe travels and have fun!

It depends on what you're in the mood for. Like Drama said, you will need to bring a chair to watch the big screen. I can only imagine there being a massive sea of people outside Thursday night. Some of the over head shots from Game 2 showed the crowd stretching for almost an entire block.

Yeah I may bring a few chairs down, and even if I have to go buy one when I get in its cheaper than a ticket :lol

She's asking around work (she lives there) to try and find out where we could go but I kinda like the idea of celebrating with a mass group. I'm not a pens fan, but it'd be a cool experience.

A bar, for sure. The screen isnt all its cracked up to be. Bound to be a massive crowd and your view might not be great depending on when you get there.

Find a bar in the southside would be my best recommendation

Yeah its nice, but im sure that will be impossible to get a seat.

South side will be a crazy party if they win it, and thats where everyone will go after the game.

if you want a comfy place to watch and be able to hear the action etc, watch in a bar

if you want to experience the game in a big crowd and be a part of the potential celebration, then do the big screen...you'll just have to deal with possible bad seat/view and won't be as comfy as drink service and tons of TVs at a bar

What part of the city are you staying in? I imagine the South Side is going to be crazy, but sometimes crazy can be fun. Just a note that I have heard that our constables won't you drink adult beverages outside in front of Mario's TV.

He lives right off of shadycrest back in that plan.

Apparently Matt Joyce now lives back there too near the entrance where that park is. My friend and his fiancee see this super hot model walking their dog and theres two cars from FL parked there, a beamer and a Range Rover.

Not exactly an area you would expect a MLB player to buy a house, even if it is just for a year.

My dad and I were talking last night and we decided the only way we'd pay hundreds of $$ to see a stanley cup game is if either the Rangers or Devils were playing. We're Rangers fans, but the devil's AHL affiliate is here in Albany so it'd be fun to see them holding the cup.

Completely agree, they should have a better system at the rinks then a slightly oversized smartphone to make review calls.

As for the person that asked about open air viewing of the game. In my experience it is fun to do ONCE (assuming they look the other way on booze) if you are younger and want to be part of a huge crowd but after that you will probably not want to do another. It is like going to Times Square for NYE.

Good read. Hopefully we can figure something out. Trading Bishop could be interesting, but we'd have to get good picks in return and not add too much money with any players we'd get. I have long term faith in Vasilevskiy and wouldn't mind seeing him get a full year if it meant having Stamkos. Having the ability to sign that 8th year could make some difference and so will the tax difference between the Canadian teams.

Him and Tavaras would be nice as the top two centers for the Islanders, my dad would love that haha. Buffalo would have some nice looking forwards but they're not in the position to compete and he's expressed how he wants to win a cup and part of why he'd want to stay in Tampa.

The Isles one seemed the most far fetched to me. They would have two players for $10mil each and don't the depth built up that TBL or a team like Chicago (who has two very expensive players on it) has. The rest all made sense quite a bit. My thinking is Tampa, Toronto and Detroit as the top 3, in no particular order.

Of all the fantastic Player's Tribune articles out there, this one by Kerry Fraser stands out as one of the best. Of course, I'm a little biased.

http://www.theplayerstribune.com/201...feree-stories/

Also includes the Theo Fleury/Tyson Nash story that we've talked about here a few times:
Quote:

Four years later, I was reffing a game in New York when Theo came up to me with tears in his eyes.

“Kerry, you gotta do something,” he said.

Theo had just gotten back to the ice after some time in a rehab program. At the time, I didn’t know the extent of his past trauma with sexual abuse — nobody did. But everybody in the league knew that Theo had spent a few rough years struggling with drugs and alcohol.

At the very end of the first period, Theo had gotten into a scrum with Blues tough guy Tyson Nash, and words were exchanged. Theo skated up to me after everything got broken up, and he was very emotional. You almost never see guys get emotional on the ice, but this was different.

“Kerry, he was talking about my drug problems,” Theo said. “He can’t talk to me like that. I’m really trying to clean up my life, Kerry. Honestly.”

He told me he hadn’t had a drink in X days, hadn’t done drugs in X days. I could tell that he was sincerely wounded. In that moment, I didn’t see the guy who threw his helmet at me and called me every name in the book over the years. I just saw a human being who was in a lot of pain, and I wanted to take his pain away.

But what was I supposed to do? I didn’t actually hear what was said. Do I kick Nash out for something I didn’t witness? How am I supposed to explain that in my game report? It was a gray area.

So as everyone was skating off the ice, I asked Theo, “What about an apology?”

Theo said, “An apology?”

“Yeah, an apology. If I get Tyson back here to apologize, promise me you won’t break a stick over his head.”

He told me he hadn’t had a drink in X days, hadn’t done drugs in X days. I could tell that he was sincerely wounded.

“O.K., deal.”

“Alright, come back and meet me at this spot before the next period.”

I went right to the visiting team’s coaches room to talk to Joel Quenneville, who was coaching the Blues at the time. I told him we had a little problem. I told him what was said. And I’ll never forget Joel’s face. He’s such a solid guy.

He said, “Do you want me to have Tyson take his gear off?”

I said, “No, I want him to apologize.”

Joel said, “Great idea,” and he went right into the locker room to talk to Tyson.

I skated out at the start of the second period. Theo came out of the tunnel and met me at the prearranged spot. Tyson entered the ice at the Zamboni entrance and skated around a bit. He was reluctant to come over. So I had to wave him over to join the party.

When Tyson got to us, his lip was actually quivering. You could tell he was deeply affected, perhaps even ashamed. He tapped Theo on the shin pad and gave a terrific apology.

“I want to wish you all the best in everything you have ahead of you,” he said.

Theo and Tyson shook hands.

I said, “Let’s play some hockey.”

And we played some hockey.

Hell yes he should.

lots of dough, yes

seeing your team hoist the Cup on home ice for the first time ever is priceless to me

I don't think I would. How often are you going to get that chance? It would be tempting don't get me wrong but the Pens haven't been back here in 7 years, and all three of their Cups they never had a potential clinching game at home.

I don't know though - I don't know if I could reconcile the potential of seeing the cup being hoisted with the reality of almost having a full season ticket package funded.

Meh, I'm one of those guys that's fine watching it on TV, on the comfort of my couch, with the benefit of replay and multiple camera angles, etc. :lol The live atmosphere would be insane and a cool thing to be a part of, but for $6k? Yeah, I'll just enjoy from home.

fair enough and to each their own (and i've seen tickets down low selling for $8500 on stubhub)

but for me, it's very possible that it's a once in a lifetime opportunity so i wouldn't sell

and i agree, Matty. the at-home experience is SOO good now with HD/4K tvs, super slow-mo, multiple angles, the comfort of your couch and regular priced beer :lol

but this is different. this is the conclusion of the greatest tournament in the world. this is the most sacred trophy in all of sports. this is possibly the first championship to be won within the city limits of Pittsburgh since 1960.

this is basically my wet dream

I get it for sure. I saw the Cup once when it was on tour and even just by itself, with no championship players lifting it in front of thousands of fans, it commands this certain amount of reverance. People were whispering around it and such. Really cool feeling. And to see your team get it, that would be cool.

But hey, a wet dream can be just as comfortable on the sofa. Maybe more so.

:lol true

yea for me, since baseball is my first love i wouldn't sell a Pirates World Series ticket either.

same goes for the Cup.

but if i had a Super Bowl ticket and the Steelers were playing in it, but i could sell it for $6000+, fuck yea i'm selling...most likely a terrible seat in a huge stadium...traffic, tourist, expensive merch and food....Super Bowl isn't worth it for me. i'll watch at home and drink beers at will

I have a friend who sold a Super Bowl 49 ticket to a Seahawks fan for 10 grand.

My friend used the money to travel and buy a ticket to Super Bowl 50. He's a Broncos fan. So I'd say it worked out well.
