It will certainly put them in an interesting spot if they sign Erhoff. If they do, it will probably put them out of the B. Richards running and they still need a no. 1 center which they will then try to acquire with a trade. At this point though I wouldn't be surprised with just about anything, Pegula has really changed the culture in Buffalo and it is extremely exciting to see

Bob McKenzie says don't be surprised to see the Sabres offer a huge contract to Brad Richards, either.

Good for them. All owners should be like Pegula.

how on this green earth is Buffalo going to possibly get Richards and Erhoff with $11 million in cap space and still 5-6 guys to sign? Erhoff and Richards may both command $11 million+ combined.

They won't get Richards and Erhoff unless they dump some salary somewhere else. Boyes, Hecht, Sekera, Gaustad are a few names that have been talked about in regards to that.

No doubt. Ehrhoff + Richards is probably more in the range of $12m/yr.

Ok, so then in addition to the 5-6 guys you need, you're going to add a little space, but will need to sign 8-10 guys? It's really tough to be one of the top contenders without depth.

I definitely understand what you're saying but it is still a possibility if Pegula and co. want to go in that direction. If the Sabres did somehow get Erhoff and Richards they would suddenly have a very good top 6 and a great top 4 on D to go along with Miller in net. Depth would certainly be an issue but they have young guys that I'm guessing they would hope step up.

To be honest, I don't see the Sabres getting Richards and it wouldn't surprise me if they didn't sign Ehrhoff. But either way, they're going to be big players on Friday.

I am too, but a fan for the Sabres. I hated watching him play. Between him and Butler I felt like they were always turning the puck over at the worst times.

That said, Montador really stepped it up in the playoff both years for us and I wish him the best.

Giant Jew 06-30-2011 12:20 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

He was one of the better D-men on the Sabres in the first half but it seemed like he lost a step the rest of the way. Turned into a turnover machine and had a rough playoff, he ended up getting scratched for game 7 against the Flyers. He is apparently an awesome teammate and a great community guy though, so he has that going for him

Montador is very incosistent. There will be games when you love him and games when he looks like he should be sent to the AHL. He drove me nuts when he was on the Bruins.

I haven't heard either. I think he goes to the market regardless because you have to see what's out there. As I said before it would be stupid not to. Defenseman market is beyond small but people need them so go see. He could still sign afterwards with CBJ. I doubt they would turn him away if July 2nd he says you know what I wanna play here.

I think Buffalo overused him last season. He was pulling 23-25 minutes a night sometimes. He'll only be 3rd pairing for us, and I think that will work better for him.

He'll be pretty solid for a 3rd pairing defenseman. In the playoffs in 09 the Bruins D was so banged up in game 7 against Carolina I think they only had 4 D-men that could actually skate. And Montador was absolutely awful in that game turning pucks over left and right, so I'll pretty much always hate the guy just because of that one game.

That's what seems to have happened. Still expect him to go to the market too. Other than Bryz has anyone who's had their rights traded actually signed with that team?

edit: Kopecky but he wasn't gonna pass on $3mil a year to try the market.

He could fill out a nice spot on the third D-pairing with Campoli. 10-13 minutes a night is about right for him.

Sorry but that's 100% bullshit. You aren't going to look for houses if most likely Tampa will match. If they end up not matching then ok but you gonna go looking for houses when you probably aren't going to be playing there?

I'm sure you heard that but I wouldn't put much stock in it. Again, the ONLY way he leaves Tampa is if some team makes a 1-year, $12 million offer or something like that.

not true at all - the flyers go to sea isle very often as ive seen jeff carter and mike richards there multiple times over the summers (wont be happening any time soon.... :(

also, a lot of the flyers live in my town, voorhees, not in philly. the skate zone is literally a 20 second from my drive, so thats where they all live close to, and besides the neighborhoods all being really nice, they just built a shit ton of nice small apartments (zherdev lived in one last year, the building over from a friend of mine).

when i was little, a different friend of mine lived on the same street as lindros, leclair, and hextall, and they used to play street hockey with all the local kids...they were fucking awesome.

but yea i mean i dont think the flyers are actually going to end up getting stamkos, but its fairly evident theyre interested.

Local places in Winnipeg were saying Bettman was in town weeks before the Thrashers were moving there and that ended up not being true. People make crap up and a lot of media today will just report it because they don't want to be scooped. Maybe a little investigating from people these days would be cool. Again would you go looking for a place not having a job there yet while knowing your current employer could make it so you couldn't go there? If Tampa doesn't match he'd have all summer to find a place so he's not gonna be looking now. The radio guys are lying or someone feeding them BS and they bought it.

Tim Sassone tweeted that there was a 100% chance that Campbell would not be traded, and literally 5 minutes later he went to Florida. He is one of the worst beat reporters because he does nothing but assume things. Bowman said last week that we weren't looking for defense and that John Scott will get more ice time. Well we got Steve Montador last night. the Hawks said the exact same thing 2 years ago about not spending big money, and then we signed Hossa. The Blackhawks are INFAMOUS for being very tight-lipped about their plans and they play the media all the time to benefit them. I hardly listen to any of the beat reporters anymore.

But I still don't think they get Richards anyway.

WIP doesn't break news or anything like that. At most, all they do is speculate. That being said as well, WIP is terrible when it comes to news about the Flyers or just simply talking about them.

Voorhees is a lot different from Sea Isle. You think Stamkos would really live hour, twenty minutes from the practice facility, and two hours away from the rink? Quite a commute, wouldn't you say?

Second, Richards and Carter both lived in the city. So does Hartnell, and so did Upshall and Lupul, I think.

We need a Mighty Ducks depth chart. Who was the center on the Oreo line? Banks or Germaine?

Stamkos has been reported to be at the United Center talking to the front office about definitely coming to play in Chicago next year. It was clear we needed someone in the #2 spot, and Stamkos wants to fill that role. He loves the history of this team and the future of it.

He wanted a coach that sits down with his players after a hard practice and bakes a cake with the ala John Stevens.

Banks was the center.

that's what I was thinking, but wikipedia says it's Guy... I need to watch this movie again.

Was Charlie a center? If so, that's a pretty potent middle with Guy, Banksy, and Charlie

Pretty sure Charlie was center.

That being said as well, WIP is terrible when it comes to news about the Flyers or just simply talking about them.

I mostly agree with this but I do appreciate having Al Morganti and Keith Jones sit in with the morning show. A week or two ago Cataldi was out and the show was all Jones and Morganti and it was 75% NHL talk and 25% Phillies.

I wish those two had their own show or at least put out a podcast or something, this town is seriously lacking hockey talk on the radio.

I'm missing a forward, but this is probably pretty accurate:

Hall – Germaine – Hall
Connie – Banks - Averman
Tammy Duncan– Charlie – ?

Karp – Peter
Fulton – Tommy Duncan

Goldberg

:thumbsup Complete interference. Nice backcheck by Charlie though after the rest of the d-men stop skating in the neutral zone.

I wonder how much money Gagne would want in a return to Philly. I'd gladly take him back for cheap and slap him on the 3rd line. He'd be great with a guy like Schenn or Simmonds.

Bowman said that "it's possible" the #Blackhawks are done revamping D if Campoli and Montador get signed.

Makes sense. No problem with...

Keith/Seabs
Leddy/Hjalmarsson
Campoli/Montador

Would prefer Hejda to Montador, but I think they need to focus big-time on the FW depth.
