You're lucky. Other than Wayne Simmonds, Dustin Brown would look good in a Flyers uniform. Definitely tell him to sign up though. We're all great guys, and we wouldn't give him grief. :lol:lol:lol

EDIT: Except Joe would probably tell him he sucks if they ever met in the SCF, and the Chicago boys would threaten to cut his balls off.

I wouldn't William Wallace him. Just whenever he came my way I would give him a nice warning of a nut shot

Then you might as well just cut his balls off.

The ribbings we give each other in here are nothing compared to a hockey locker room... I can't imagine what an NHL one would be like. This would probably all seem like sissy talk to him.

Yeah...I think he would be able to dish it back to you guys for sure. Also, not sure if this is public or what not (I don't read much into Kings news) but he told me they are apparently looking at Drury. Making Dustin nervous of losing his number, 23.

I would love to go head to head with a NHL player--that would be sick. You really need to get him on here. Tell him we all have some sort of disease. Hockey players are gracious guys. They'll do anything for the sick.

We'll give him complete anonymity--well, until the playoffs. I'm just really secretly hoping for a Brohan, Mdrums mix up with Dustin where they don't know he's really Dustin Brown.

:lol That'd be gold. I'd also love to see him have a convo with Joe if he got traded to the Flyers mid-season.

I would hate to see him on the Flyers. If he comes back to the East Coast, I'm pulling him to NYR.

Here is a question/discussion topic: We briefly talked last night about the season starting in Europe and how a team should not have to go to Europe until every other team has done so. For example, it seems the Kings go every year, and they have an insane travel schedule on top of that. Would that be a fair deal?

I think it's fair to expect every team make an appearance at least once before having to go again. That being said, I wouldn't be upset about being the ambassadors of the league overseas... unless it became a constant issue, then it might get old.

I would hate the Flyers to go over there. The jetlag is terrible.

*runs off to post info on Sharks blog, which their TV people are known to read*

And re: Europe, in some sense it's fair to have everyone go, but this is about marketing. They want to pick teams that will draw interest.

Agreed... but are the Kings really one of the first teams to come to mind when thinking about drawing interest??

dduncan6er 07-21-2011 03:18 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I don't think Europe is really a bad thing for the teams to start the season. The league gives them a fair amount of time to adjust from the jetlag, and the bruins credited it as a major team building trip last year.

That's a fair question, and no, they're not as high-profile as say the Rangers, Bruins or Habs, but probably more appealing than the Jackets or Panthers. And some of it may have to do with who's on the teams. The Sharks have made appearances in Sweden probably because of their links to Swedes.

One thing I don't like is how Burnside immediately thinks that the "Flyers Faithful" were the only ones who thought Stamkos WAS NOT going to sign with Tampa. The entire Stamkos thing was literally picked up by the media from a rumor monger and off it went.

Yeah I didn't like that either. A lot of people thought he should sign elsewhere or someone would.

The rest was spot on I think. You sign an up and coming player like Kesler or Penner for a bigger number then they are worth and hope it works out. Teams will find it harder to match for an unproven than they would a Stamkos. Plus the team tendering the offer sheet might find it easier to pay $4mil for a player rather than 11mil. Also a good point on the floor. Since you have to spend $48mil this year you aren't likely to let a bigger salary go.
