Uh oh Tim, this just in from McKenzie:

Bob McKenzie @TSNBobMcKenzie I am now hearing TB has traded Kyle Quincey to DET. Working on details but sounds like Quincey to DET for a first-round pick. Verifying.
First rounder is overpaying, unless they're really needing the offensive help on their back-end. I can see this as potentially bringing in a guy to replace Lidstrom's spot on the PP after this season. It's where Quincey excels (the only place he excels, IMO).

A first rounder for a guy they waived? I sure hope not. Would be being very very nice to Stevie Y.

edit: He's a very good player and while I wish they never would have waived him they had no other options at the time. But yeah way overpaying.

So basically Tampa is getting a 1st rounder for Downie?

And when you put it that way, nice move by Stevie. Wings got what they wanted, although overpaid, and they got a 1st rounder (most likely #27-29) for Downie. That's pretty good.

edit: but have to say Wings are getting an RFA out of the deal instead of an UFA like Kubina and others would have been.

Great move by Stevie Y, if that's what it ends up being.

And like I said, if the Wings are looking long-term offensive replacement for Lidstrom, Quincey might be their guy. He will not be the all-around presence Nick was/is, but can run a decent PP.

This too:

Again steep price but more positives out of this than trading away a 2nd and 3rd for a guy who would most likely walk after the year. Plus he's what 27? Wings could still use some depth at forward.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

^ My thinking. He is a good skater, does well in the offensive zone at moving the puck, although I'd like to see him pass a bit more. Has a tendency to get caught out of place, and being a good skater can only get you so far if the other team gets a 2-on-1 and you as the defender are stuck down behind their net.

In all, he'd be a good replacement for Nick on the PP, and would probably be pretty effective playing with a guy like Kronwall. But you know how I get with defenders who don't know how to play defense...

EDIT: But yes, his youth is what would attract me (n/h). Potential to improve playing in a structured system with one of the best coaches out there.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

And I'll always say I trust Kenny Holland. I mean how can you not. Sure there are somethings that work out and some that don't. Waiving Quincey to keep Meech was one of them but he's right probably 90% of the time. Also someone on Twitter said the players available late in round 1 aren't quite as good as in years past so we'll see I guess.

Kubina made it clear the day he arrived that he wants to stay here. :thumbsup

No Datsyuk tonight (or for two weeks I guess) so Hawks fans you have that going for ya.

No Toews either so that evens things up.

On his career in Philly? You thinking he lets in 4 of the first 4 tonight?

Rangers are really lucky they aren't trailing after that first period.

Is there a better PP QB in the history of the NHL than Lindstrom? Seriously. Guy just knows how to run it.

Don't think so. They play the box just as passively usually.

and it is things like this that make me hate Quenneville. How can this team be on an 0-for-28 PP slump?

PP doesn't deserve shit. 0-for-29. Sure it looked good, but I don't care about it "getting better" when it's 0-for-29

I don't know why Keith and some of the other d-men are so insistent on taking a slapshot from the point. Just once I'd like to see them flick a wrist through traffic and see what happens.
