Sick hat trick for Kane!

Rangers also made a nice comeback win! Hank was great!

Yeah, gotta love Hatrick Kane getting one 2 days after Toews gets a hat trick!

Hoping Hjarlmasson is OK but since he didn't practice yesterday or utilize the pre-game skate something had to be off if Q suited up 7 defenders. I am not overly concerned.

Agreed on Hank - dam solid game for him, well earned win even if it took him to stand tall in a shootout!

Not saying the team around him is useless, but he certainly would be the driving force behind the Rangers

The Rangers are pretty solid. 8-1-1 this month, they lead the NHL in road wins with 20, and they lead the NHL in third period goals. Derek Stepan is back as well which helps. I'm pretty happy with where the Rangers are. That said, I wouldn't be against bringing in some help on the blue line and another strong center.

Tim's example was from 2004, which was before the lockout. The big market teams like Detroit, Flyers, Rangers, Leafs, Canadiens, and the Bruins could dish out millions of dollars to free agents because their owners were rich and didn't mind spending the money in the quest to keep their franchises successful.

The cap changed that completely, and for the better. I'd rather have a competitive league than let's say, four to six teams on a yearly basis who are light years better than everyone else.

It's not NEARLY that simple. The CBA dictates that players and owners have a 50-50 share of hockey-related revenue. If you really want to get into the weeds...

It's article 49, which details the Player Compensation Cost Redistribution System (a.k.a the NHL's Revenue Sharing program). This guy does a much better job explaining it than I can:

http://www.ontheforecheck.com/2013/6...gram-explained

But in short, it's not like owners can just chose to not pay players and that money goes straight into their pockets. The NHLPA would never allow that.

he was rough last night, for sure. a couple (almost) costly turnovers in the 3rd and in OT.

I mean yeah, but he will help long term when he gets back up to speed. Just may take a little while. As long as he is good to go for the playoffs I will be happy!

So Shatts has turned down a trade to TBL. I don't know why Tampa would want to tie him up to the $$ and term he's gonna get. They've got other things to work out and #1 d-man money when you have a #1 doesn't seem like a good investment to me when you've got other guys coming up to get paid. I see why Edmonton, Detroit, Boston, would pay him #1 money but I just don't know if I would do that in Tampa. Wonder if he gets moved at all.

I am starting to think he will stay where he is. Cost is too high for most of the teams that are playoff bound, and if I am him, I'm not accepting a trade to a team that is trending the opposite way.

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

I think he wants to go to the market and see. The asking price is high from St Louis (as it should be) and teams aren't gonna sell the farm for a guy that might not sign. Could be a boring trade deadline. Could be a blitz of stuff just before the expansion draft as teams trying to unload guys who might be taken.

I don't think he turned down a trade to Tampa, he turned down signing the contract extension that Tampa said was a requirement for the trade.

He doesn't have any NTC or NMC, so he has no say in "accepting" a trade or not. What happened with Tampa was they were willing to trade for him contingent on him signing a contract extension before the trade, and he wouldn't sign it.

He's going to get moved, but it will just be as a rental.

Pretty much the same thing then. He turned down Tampa.

Not really. I think it's the contract extension part. I think he wants to test the open market, I don't know if Tampa has anything to do with it. It was a seven-year, $42 million contract. He might think he can get more than that.

Yeah, that's kind of the trend the deadline is going in. The big moves are made pre-draft nowadays. The expansion draft, though, definitely adds a nice wrinkle to the event. Even so, it's possible many of the big names stick.

Using the Avalanche as a metaphor for the entire league: Jarome Iginla will go at the deadline, but Matt Duchene probably won't.

wings don't have big names to move so Vanek and Smith are probably gone and I think Ott will be too because one report had teams calling on him. I like him and wouldn't mind him back as like a reserve forward next year.

Did read one that teams calling on Athanasiou and one GM don't Friedman "unless you are offering a 22 year old #1 d-man, don't bother." I'm intrigued with some of the reading about the expansion draft and who to protect. It's interesting. One beat writer here made an argument for Zetterberg being protected. I wouldn't have but she points out, he's having a good year and after next season his salary goes to $3.5mil, 1mil and 1mil. Sure it's a $6mil cap hit that's an ok salary for Vegas to take.

As for Shats, he should go to the market. Wings can make a better play for him there. ;)

Eaves to the Ducks for a conditional 2nd. What's Vanek gonna pull for the Wings? Dang. Dumb if Holland doesn't trade him. I like Eaves and hope he does well there. Always liked the way he played here.

Nice pickup for the Ducks. :thumbsup

He had kind of a slow-burn start to his career. Nice to see him having a good season.

After all that Hawks get Jurco. Good luck kid. Wish Babs hadn't fucked your career by forcing you on the big club too early and then benched you. A 3rd rounder ain't bad for him.

Is the avalanche of pre-deadline trades starting now, kinda like last year?

Yeah, not a bad deal but it annoys me that we have now had to send Hinostroza down to the AHL because of it. He was gelling quite nicely on that line with Hossa and Hartmann. plus his speed saves quite a few icings.

Nice to see Bryan Bickell lacing the skates up for the first time tonight in an actual game for the 'Cane's AHL team!

Just watched the extended highlights on my NHL ROKU (dozed off for a few hours, got up too damn early today) and wow, he looked pretty solid, not rusty at all - also good for LA that you have a solid backup in Budaj. Hoping you guys can do me a favor and knock Minnesota off on Monday! :)
