I just saw some more tweets about Bryzgalov getting 7 years/$50 mil.
Here's an article from a Philly media outlet on it. http://www.csnphilly.com/06/22/11/Re...medium=twitter

I know the cap has gone through the roof, but the Flyers seem to have a roster full of guys making way too much money.

Your cap number seems like it should be 100 million.

It seems like the owner is overreacting and putting too much pressure on the GM.

Ed Snider doesn't overreact. He wants to win.

The quickest way to stop your team from winning is to abandon the plan your GM has in place.

Stepping out of the owner's box and telling your GM to get a goalie and then overpaying him isn't overreacting?

Not when every Flyer's GM (that's been 2 -3 guys) in the last 15-18 years has failed to get "that guy" in goal.

But does Bryzgalov really deserve 7 million a year at the expense of letting guys walk like Carter and Leino? Especially when Bobrovsky played pretty well last year as a rookie.
If this deal is signed I believe Bryzgalov would have a bigger cap hit than any goalie in the NHL.

I know Thomas played great, but he was out of a job last year.

Who is the last marquee goalie to win a title? It just seems like they league has changed and goalies matter less than ever.

First of all, it's not a 7 mil deal. Let's just get that out right now.

Is Bryz worth a big contract? Yes. Even at the expense of Carter and Leino.

:confused I'd still say Thomas is a marquee goalie. 2 vezinas in 3 years is pretty impressive.

Marc-Andre Fleury.

I agree, but he was not the "star" goalie in the series.

He kicked ass though.

I dont get what you're saying here. You think Luongo is more of a star than Thomas?

I think Luongo was the bigger name. His performance was looked at as a referendum on the "superstar" goalie.

I think after the year Thomas had coupled with his 2008-2009 season he's a bigger name than Luongo as far as goalies go.

That's like saying Dirk wasn't a star in the NBA Finals because LeBron was in it too. It makes no sense.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

And Thomas played like crap in the 2009-2010 season because of a hip injury. It was downplayed throughout the season but it obviously effected his play a ton.

It's not even the same as that because Thomas had a better regular season than Luongo did too.

I'd say it was pretty established among nearly everyone that Thomas was the better goalie going into the series.

Well, Philly just cap-fucked themselves.

As if they weren't already...

Didn't work out that great for Chicago last year....
