I'll post my blog in here later. Three guys and pretty much all 30 teams going for them, those aren't good odds for teams getting their guy. We'll never know what was said to try and recruit the guys and why they chose where they did. Obviously they thought other places were better for them. Ehrhoff is the most surprising because you gotta think he could have got more money, he could have here for sure but clearly he felt that one year with the Pens could raise his stock. I'm just not sure how much. Even with a good year he won't get much more than 6 a year from now but I guess $2mil over 5 years adds but. Still sort of a risk though because you could get hurt and have your value drop like crazy. I guess all we have to do is look at Vanek. He left A LOT of money on the table to go where he wanted to go. That's his choice.

Looks like James Neal got his Jason Spezza... ;)

Well, the east got even less relevant this off season. NY has taken huge losses. Can't wait for 10 years from now...might be the next time the east can realistic believe they have a chance at the cup. Hate the west officially.

If Bowman trades Versteeg he should already win GM of the year, and I think he can do it to a team trying to get to the floor.

Hey now, you poached Danny Boyle from the West! Gotta look at the brightside, Aero.

Isles are the only team really under the floor. Other teams are just under and don't need a stupid contract. Islanders you in?

I used to have this rather portly friend who, when eating meals with us, would inevitably resort to making the rounds, asking everyone, "are you going to eat that?" Didn't matter what it was, if they were discarding, he was accepting.

Islanders as they try to reach the cap floor?

Great post, Tim. You are the voice of reason amidst all the idiots who think they know hockey better than guys on the ice, behind the bench, and in the front office. May this make the rounds to all of Wings nation.

Thanks. They'll just get pissed and say I'm an apologist. Look at the Preds, Flames, Isles to name a few. You can't always get your guys. They got Weiss and Alfie last year, who they needed. Of course those same fans would say Weiss was a failure. He played 26 games, lets actually see him play.Had Weiss and the other guys been healthy, could have been a different year.

Or you could be San Jose and be getting John Scott. That'll get them to the Cup.

Lol Bowman doesn't win anything unless he can figure out how to re-sign Toews & Kane.

@fearthefin: Do the Kings get a trophy for breaking Doug Wilson's brain to go along with their Stanley Cup?

Nice job, Isles:

Pierre LeBrun ‏@Real_ESPNLeBrun now Isles sign Kulemin 4 yrs/$16.75 M and Grabovski 4 yrs / $20 M

So much for the dream Euro line of Hornquivst - Malkin - Kulemin.

No way were the Pens gonna pay Kulemin over $4 million for 4 years.

Guess that's what happens though when you're the Isles scraping the cap floor.

Remember when all the Flyers fans were yelling at me for saying that contract was an awful signing? I'm pretty sure someone guaranteed 80 points this past season too.

And now only a few teams under the floor, and barely.

In liked him at 2-3 years and not 5 and we were laughed at when we questioned the 5 years for a guy on the decline.

The re-invigoration of the Flyers defense corp starts today with Nick Schultz.

I remember this :lol . My biggest question was why they signed him like right after they bought out Briere.

:lol I actually haven't been on Ants in like two months, but I felt it was my duty to come and apologize to you all for signing him.

I have no fucking clue what Doug Wilson is doing. A very frustrating time to be a Sharks fan.

Everyone but Flyer fans knew that deal was dreadful.

Tim, how would you feel about taking Oduya off our hands, and what would you think Detroit could give in return?

Looking back at the Lacavalier signing from a year ago and the only one who was huge on him was Roose from my initial backread (I'm bored, stop judging me). He was the one who thought Vinny could have 70 points

Re: The NHL Thread

So my brother texted me the news around 4:30. I was quite surprised. Needless to say, I was not expecting anything like this coming down today.

I am both excited for the talent upgrade yet frustrated that our overpay netted us these 2 guys. We spent all this money and this is what we got. But I can't be mad because I've been wanting them to overpay to bring some talent in and when they do it, it's not all it could be. So I'm happy and will stay that way. Beggars can't be choosers. We are still way below the cap and it is only money. I mean, if our young studs become studs, when it is time to get paid, these 2 today will be gone and the cap space will be there.

I saw a stat today that there are 119 active players who have scored 29 goals in an NHL season. And today we signed 2 of them. So glass is half full, right.

Grabovski can be lazy and take dumb penalties but he is a talent. Kulemin is more a 3rd liner but I'm assuming they will play together on the 2nd line and moves Frans Nielson to the 3rd line C. Which puts Strome and Nelson where? On the wing?

What puzzles me is that we now have too many forwards and a glut of centers. It is quite obvious that a package trade for a defenseman is coming. And I'm fine with that as long as it is the right one and it is not for someone like Phaneuf. And it makes me nervous Garth putting some young studs in a package for possibly the wrong player.

Yes, we overpaid but we brought in NHL talent and are a better than yesterday. So I am happy and curious as to what the next move is.

I doubt it. If they trade for a lefty it would be Yandle. He'd be OK but just don't think it will happen. I'm not sure he makes them better.

Re: The NHL Thread

I like the pickups for the Isles talent wise but yeah overpaid.
