We need to take away the East-West passes in our zone. Emery is terrible moving laterally, really slow because of his hip. Flyers did a better job in Game 2 of stopping those kinds of passes, but its impossible to do, especially on the powerplay because of the man advantage.

I'm just terrified that Rick Nash wakes up. Every single shift, he looks like a man possessed.

I haven't watched until the playoffs. I don't think it's a Cup team because of a lack of forward depth, but it's also not a team that should still be blowing big playoff leads.

Honestly I would lean towards Lucic being dirtier. It's easy with how fast the game is to make a bad hit without intention, but a nut shot like his was so intentional. He should have gotten at least a game

This will be my last on this hit, then it's time to move on I think...

1) I don't think he really left his feet in the "dirty" sense of leaving your feet. There's a huge difference between jumping into a check and leaving your feet because of a check...if that makes sense. Your feet are going to leave the ice on any huge shoulder check. It's just so much momentum...it happens. There's a difference between how Seabs left his feet, and how Torres left his feet no his Hossa hit.

2) I was guessing 1, but wasn't going to be surprised by up to 3. I'm not complaining about that length. I want the game cleaner. I wanna see guys respect each other. If this is what it takes, then so be it. That said, it does seem like 1 or 2 above what I would have obviously guessed. Seabs is a clean player with a clean history. He's never even been fined. But, oh well.

3) I would say the Lucic one is dirtier, for sure. That's a pure intent at being a dirt bag. Seabs at least was a hockey play, and you can make a case that Backes didn't leave himself in the best position. Should Seabs have pulled up or at least tried to lessen the blow? Absolutely, but Lucic's move has no place in hockey. That said, if Seabs is going to get 3, Lucic deserves at LEAST 1.

1. i misspoke when i used the word intent...my point was more towards the head being contacted...seabs plays clean, but the NHL just won't let those hits slide anymore, regardless of history or intent...the fact he left his feet made it worse in the end

Sometimes leaving your feet just kinda happens when you hit, especially when you make that first contact at that speed. Even if you look at stills of good, clean body checks, you'll still sometimes see the hitter's skates off the ice. It's all about whether he was doing it in order to deliver a dirty check, or really injure the guy by throwing himself at him like a missile.

The biggest thing I think, like you guys said, is the head being the principle point of contact. I agree with Chris that it's not in Seabrook's style to do something like that, but intent is irrelevant when the head is hit, and it was hit hard. But that's the biggest thing to me. In other words, if Seabs lowers the shoulder a bit more, that's probably a clean hit. But I will also admit that's easy for us to say when we're watching from our couches at a slowed-down view.

I agree with others: Fine with removing dirty hits from the game, but consistency is a huge issue.

That's my take on it too. People are making way too big of a deal out of it. I say some stupid shit on the ice, especially when it gets to things like playoff time (beer league playoffs are super fucking serious business). I can only imagine what those NHL players say when it's ramped up to that level and you have as much history as the Blues/Blackhawks/Backes/etc. have.

Ehhhhh...it's hockey. People are just making a big deal out of it because it's the one part that was audible. Even Brenden Morrow said "I’m sure that wasn’t the worst thing said. It just wasn’t caught on camera."

It happens down there. None of the players care, coaches don't care...it's a made up media story. There's worse shit said than that at almost any huge hit in most/all playoff games, I'm sure (and at other points in games). The NHL playoffs are a nasty beast, and personally, I love that part. Don't get me wrong, I don't wish harm on anyone, but playing with an edge/intensity when in the moment is part of what makes the NHL playoffs the NHL playoffs.

Now if afterwards Keith went to the hospital and starting laughing at Backes or flickering the lights on and off, that's a different story.

If people are seriously upset with Keith, playoff hockey might not be for you.

Like I said, anything after the fact is a different story, but in the heat of the moment there are some nasty things said out there. This is the most intense playoff scenario in sports in a sport that's notorious for talking shit. Backes himself even was talking shit immediately and wanting to fight multiple people.

Again, there's a difference between saying something in the moment and celebrating it later. The shirts are pretty stupid, but Keith talking shit isn't that big of a deal.

Maybe I'm just old school, but if people are really worked up about "Wakey wakey" then they really would be disgusted and appalled by some of the actual bad stuff that ends up being said. This isn't golf.
