Going to be very weird to see Brodeur in anything other than the NJ jersey.

Well, I don't know about THAT. Certainly would be a pricey ransom, but let's not pretend like Kesler wasn't the 1C on a Team USA that Saad didn't make.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Saad (which has been pretty well documented here, as well as the #20 sweater hanging in my closet), but Kesler is an all world talent, probably top 25 in the entire league, that would solve a lot of the line shuffling issues the Hawks have. A lot of their problems come down to the simple fact that they only really have 1 really good center. I love Kruger, but he's a bottom 6 guy, and Shaw is more of a wing than a center.

I would be the first one to shed a tear at the loss of Saad, but it's not like they wouldn't be getting one of the best two-way players in the world in return.

Just to keep us confused, from Larry Brooks:

Quote:

Larry Brooks ‏@NYP_Brooksie 6m Just told by informed source that Wild has targeted Halak and are expected to get him from Buffalo...so that would be a NO re Brodeur....
Not that I trust Brooks necessarily (I don't know him from Adam), just pointing to the fact that it's still pretty confusing out there regarding Marty.

This is why I prefer to wait for something from the Big 3 (McKenzie, LeBrun, Dreger).

:thumbsup To all this. Doesn't mean Chris hates Saad (he'd probably make out with him if given the chance), but getting a talent like Ryan Kesler is not something you balk at. And the thing about Kesler, he's not that old. Still has some very good years left in him.

I can't see Vancover trading Kesler to the Hawks. That would basically be admitting they don't expect to be a contender in the west for another 5-7 years.

That throws a wrench into that talk for sure though.

Good luck. If it happens, that's a quick turnaround.

Yeah it would have to take a huge price for him to stay in the West, let alone go to the Hawks.

Well that was fast (that's what she said). Fingers and toes crossed for you, pal. Just don't tell them about the Oilers fan thing... could completely ruin your chances.

This is what I keep coming back to... Trading Kesler, especially with Sedin hurt, basically means the Canucks are willing to throw in the towel on this season. And maybe they are, even if they don't admit it. Are they willing to keep a disgruntled Kesler on the roster for what's looking to be a half-hearted playoff run?

Gillis now knows from experience the downside of holding on to tradeable assets too long. That in itself could motivate him to get a deal done. The Canucks future depth is woefully thin... so making a deal at the deadline while teams are typically willing to pay a bit more might behoove him as well. A guy like Saad is just the type of player they'd be looking for, so the asking price would be high.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

FYI, If Kesler moves it will be to the East. Gillis isn't keeping him in the West.

:lol First thing I thought. No wonder Kesler wants to go to Chicago!

Also, I agree with Matt that given the choice, Gillis would prefer to send Kesler out East.

Agreed. Marty doing it all with one franchise is special.

Further to Marty:

Tom Gulitti ‏@TGfireandice 2m Lou Lamoriello doesn't respond to rumors, but did say he'd "never" have a player play in a game if a deal to trade him was already agreed on

Now stuff about the Caps might look at Lou. But we've said it, that's not their issue. Sure that might change the mentality of the team with Lou back there but their same issues will still be there most likely.

For Lou's sake, I hope he gets out. He's been such a good soldier and that place keeps screwing with him. He needs a fresh start.

I think they have to. Their window is firmly shut at this point. Someone on TSN last night said Matt Moulson might be a good fit there. I tend to agree...

There's a jackets blogger talking about a potential trade between CBJ and the Bruins involving Nikitin, Gaborik, Bartkowski and some Russian prospect of theirs. Doesn't sound like it's based on anything other than the fact that the Bruins have been heavil scouting CBJ recently.

I noticed Conacher is on waivers. Wouldn't mind if the Oil picked him up, he could add a little grit to their forward group. He's the right age for the team too.

Weekes going cray cray with ANA talk. Reporting possibility of trade to acquire Robidas (this has also been speculated about by others, including McKenzie); Penner to Caps; and Fasth to perhaps the Oil.

Now watch, none of that will actually happen, but still fun to chat about.

EDIT: It appears as I was writing this, the Penner trade became official. Robidas also looking more and more like a go. He'll be awesome for the Ducks. Love the guy.
