Guess I'll go ahead and jump in here with the Varly news.
What. The. Fuck. And up till now I really thought the Caps screwed up big time by letting that guy go. What a crazy story |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I hope the Avs get Ryan Miller.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
If all that is true, screw him. He can go straight to hell. Absolutely despicable.

Avs should give the Sabres Varlamov. Sounds like he'd get along well with John Scott.

I know, you love John Scott.
I don't want to criminalize Varlamov until he's found guilty. But if any of that is true he's a massive piece of shit. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
If Avs get desperate and give up a lot for Ryan Miller they are making a huge mistake. I still don't think they are a real contender and they will likely see quite a bit of regression no matter who is in goal.

Regression? Well, yeah I don't think anyone expects the to stay at a 10-1 pace all year. |

08-09 Blackhawks, under Q, were one of the best puck possession teams in the NHL. Avs are still one of the worst, despite their record. Their turnaround has been based on luck and a hot goaltender more than anything else.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
Dude, give up the advanced stats. For fuck's sake. I literally just shoved your argument down your throat and you still can't give it up.
That have a SHIT ton of talent. Especially offensively. With young teams, this shit happens. All the sudden shit clicks. You have no idea what you're talking about. Another great example? The 2001-2002 Lightning. AWFUL team. Absolutely dreadful. The following year they are the #3 seed in the playoffs and then the next they won the Stanley Cup. Young kids are going to make mistakes. They are going to turn the puck over, and make dumb plays in the neutral zone. But they are getting shit done. Bottom line, they are winning hockey games and doing it in convincing fasion. Have you watched an Avalanche game, or are you just spouting shit from your advanced stats (that NO ONE cares about)? Are they going to win the Stanley Cup? Probably not. But they are a young team showing a hell of a lot of promise under new direction from Roy. They showed glimpses of it last season (see the Blackhawks first regulation loss), and are really putting something together now. Duchene looks absolutely phenominal, Landeskog is one of the best young captains in the game, Tanguay is making things happen...they have the same markup of the young Blackhawks, Lightning, Penguins, etc. before things just came together. A bunch of incredibly talented young forwards that just need experience and seasoning before they are really scary. In case you all don't remember (I don't know why you would), I've been riding high on the Avs for a couple years now, saying they are on the cusp of being the next Blackhawks (along with the Oil, who will get there soon). Bringing in Miller for a couple prospects and draft picks would be a GREAT move. After this Varlamov nonsense, they need to show the team and the fans that they are really committed to winning. Put butts in the seats, drive up revenue, give yourself as a team more spending money in the offseason to make some splashes, and get this ball rolling. You don't just start 10-1-0 with a core like this and throw in the towel because "your puck possession stats aren't that great". There is a HELL of a lot more to a game like hockey than what your puck possession numbers look like. Keep judging talent and teams by an excel spreadsheet. It's working wonders for you. |
Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread
I can't believe that I just provided 4 or 5 examples 100% disproving that "teams just don't go from one of the worst to one of the best overnight" and your answer is that the Hawks had Coach Q and awesome puck possession.
Amazing. |

Thanks Chris. :hug Ok, one thing to the point of Giguere. He would be the first to agree that he's no longer capable of handling the starting role. However, he's a superb backup both on the ice and in the room. Maybe one of he best in the game right now, and I mean more than just his record. We've got a good young keeper in Aitakkalo in the system. My thinking: a tandem of Miller/Jiggy until the latter retires this year or next, then bring up Aittakalo slowly behind Miller, preparing him to take the reigns. Boom. |

Can Roy still play?
