Ref literally just panicked because there were so many guys flopping around and blew it. That was sooo poorly handled. Seriously was like a high school ref.

Pens shouldve got a penalty well before that when someone was covering up the puck. Ovie was pointing screaming about it and they did nothing.

Chris, I remember that this used to happen too. It was common when we would create a new thread for the new season every year. Trolls would come in and say shit about hockey all the time...

That mentality is a large reason why I don't like or watch the NFL. A lot of NFL fans have that meat head thought process that makes me want to vomit.

The whistle thing is a little overblown. They could have blown it several times before they did, as the puck was under guys, out of sight, etc. there probably could have been about 3 penalties on the play as well. It happens.

Yeah that was what my wife said as I was busy losing my shit. Ref just panicked. There was so much happening. I'm not sure who laid on it in the slot but I saw that too and that started my mini freak out. I was like HE CANT DO THAT!!!!!

You're not wrong that there were spots where the whistle could've justifiably gone during that scrum. It was loose the whole time but there are spots where I can see reasonable cause to blow it. Not when it went though. It was as loose as a loose puck can be at that point. Even Emrick was like AND THE PLAY........stops?

Ref has to take control in that situation. When he loses sight of the puck the whistle should be blown.

It was definitely still loose initially as it was sitting between one of the Pens players legs after MAF made the initial save, then all hell broke loose :lol

I don't have any issues with refs or whistles from last night.

It was great hockey. Pittsburgh looked really good but the Caps were able to get momentum back and really had good chances all game. They seemed to do better in the circle as the game went on.

Caps seemed to have the puck rolling off their stick all game.

Holtby played well, wonder if that second Crosby goal he could have stopped, he got a good piece of it.

Loved how physical the Caps were. Hope they keep it up.

There were a certainly scrums I remember in front of the Pittsburgh net but here today nothing is standing out as a bad call. I'm not certain which one you're referring to tbh. What I remember most was we just couldn't find the back of the net on any of them. Also, MAF made a great diving stick save on one.

By your reaction, if I looked at the tape I'm sure I'd agree with you.

Right. And I mean shit happens, that bad call won't be the reason the series or even the game probably goes one way or the other, but in the moment, that sucked. It definitely felt like that puck was gonna end up in the net before Fleury curtailed it.
