Wings turn a nice dominate performance, although not on the scoreboard, into an almost calamitous ending. That just shows how little confidence they have. One goal gets scored and they fold up. A fucking empty-netter that made it 3-0 was the the game winner. Amazing......Whether they get in the playoffs or not, I can't wait till next season. We need to hit the reset button badly.

I have been spending so much time reading about hockey recently. I just want the best time of the year to start already!

Also, congrats on the home ice trophy! Glad you had a blast last night!

Can we talk more about Ghost? Still don't think he'll win Calder because no Flyer ever has. #garageleague The instincts on this guy though. Wow.

Irony on that Kane goal was that the goalie who gave that one up (Michael Leighton) is now Chicago's backup with Crawford out! :lol

You are a baseball fan too I believe so you know writer voted awards are almost impossible to predict. They like shiny objects and tend to forget what happened 10 days or more ago. That said I agree Ghost is in the mix but if say he takes a dump for the rest of the season and someone like Panarin or Eichel go on a tear they will likely get it, equally John Gibson is gonna get a few more starts so if he gets 2 more wins in the next 7 games to total 20 on the season he will be right up there as well. I still think if he did not get hurt and miss all those games McDavid would be running away with the award. Regardless of who wins it it is great for the league to add so much talent in one season!

baseball is so boring, why would I be a fan of something boring?

Panera plays with Patrick Kane or whoever. Anyone can score when they play with those guys. Plus, Panera is like 33 years old.

Thought on Jimmy Vesey screwing the Preds over by going back on his word?

Seems like the millennials are creating a lot of issues for NHL management that is used to traditional professionalism.

One twitter post I saw from one of the media members made a good point. How many times have we seen a GM say he wasn't going to trade a player and then trade that player and then say "It's a business." It's well within the GM's right to do that, because it is a business but now they get upset when a player does does the same thing?

I'd be pissed if I was the Preds or a Preds fan but...it is a business.

I agree to an extent. However, case by case, the Pred's GM is known to be a really classy GM that doesn't really screw players over much.

Also, to me there is a difference between being a pro and not being a pro. Jimmy Vesey has never played a professional game yet. He has not really earned the right to act like that. He knew he had second thoughts about signing with Nashville and decided to let them think he was still on board...which did alter how the team went about the trade deadline. I don't really see any reason for it either. It only served to F Nashville over.

To me there is not much of a difference between him and Drouin right now. There is a level of entitlement and loss of trust that does not sit well with me.

Except basically every linemate not named Jonathan Toews and Dustin Byfuglien that Kane has ever had.

He's 24, in his first NHL season, is 14 points better than the nearest rookie, and is a main reason the defending Cup champs are even talking about the playoffs. Kid wins the Calder without blinking. It's a great year for rookies, no doubt, but Panarin is the clear winner. If McDavid were healthy the whole year, he seems like the frontrunner, but for now, I think it comes down to:

Panarin
Domi
Gostisbehere

And Panarin wins.

I have no problem with Vesey wanting to go to free agency. Kid can look out for his career and that's fine. My only problem is this leading on Nashville. If he didn't tell about five people that he was good to go with signing, this wouldn't be an issue.

Pretty much what I said in my second post.

The issue is not being honest about his intentions. Especially when there seems to be absolutely zero reason for it. It would not have been a big deal to let the organization know he was going to UFA. At the very least let them know he was undecided to let them make a decision on if they wanted to risk it.

It almost seems as though he just couldn't be bothered with it, so he just said "yeah sure, I will sign."

I mean, anyone that's ever been a union employee like that could tell you that you have to use all the options your contract allows. It's something allowable by the CBA, so I struggle to find a huge problem with it. He's gambling on himself, and it's his future. Kevin Hayes did something extremely similar.

Until he signs, you can't be 100% sure of anything. I know it sucks, but it's just a fact of the game. If the owners hate it, they need to collectively bargain something better.

I mean...as nice as that is in theory, it's insanely impractical. He still has to do work. I work in an industry with a lot of sensitivity centered around unions, and it's not like my company's CEO or COO can just NOT use email. How would they communicate with other employees? Things need to get done, and it's just a way of the world that e-mail is the way most business gets completed in today's world. He can't just text with people or sit on conference calls all day. Everyone's busy and everyone has a job to do.

Bettman is a smart guy, love him or hate him, he's fucking smart. I'm sure there's plenty he's said in person to these guys that he would never type in an email.

Hey, Tom Cruise made a movie about players doing this to agents.

I agree, they should bargain something better. Again though, my issue is not him wanting to test the market (as per his right under the CBA), it is how he let the Predators believe he was all in and then pulled the carpet from under them. I believe in second and even third chances, but this was not a great start for this kid when it comes to image.

Not really IMO, they compliment each other and look at Kane's numbers - his production is up in a large part due to playing on a line with Panarin. Plus, well, Phillie is not all that good at any major sport, when was the last title any team from Phillie won - the 08 World Series? :lol
