2 goals for, 10 against. Narrowing that gap.

Anyone see the crowd in FLA tonight? A lot worse than game 1.

They don't deserve hockey.

Re: The NHL Thread

The owners stopped giving away free tickets. I don't see how that is better for business. Someone want to explain it to me? I'd think 2-3k more people would be better because many of them would buy some sort of concessions or something in the building. I doubt they move anytime soon, but next year is the perfect time. Quebec's arena will be ready and they'd stay in the same division.

edit: fyi, attendance was announced at 7,311. Some thought that was being generous.

I love this:

Great defensive coverage by Anderson following Perry around and driving him nuts. That'll keep him in the lineup.

Re: The NHL Thread

So I was released from the hospital Sunday afternoon and was able to finally watch the first 2 islander games yesterday . Needless to say, they were quite enjoyable. The was so much to like about it and even I could pick out some issues , the bottom line is we swept a home and home series vs a team we struggle against to open the season and I can't complain about that at all.

Of course , tonight's game is huge and I will need to properly sedated for it so I do not hurt myself :D

It was tough not watching or reading about the league while in the hospital for 4 days so I could avoid islander news but am ready to catch up now that I'll be laid up for awhile.

I hope everyone is enjoying the beginning of the season

Hopefully we see it turn around soon. They can be a good fanbase at times:

I'd like to see it succeed. I don't know what the move is, though. It's a tough market to crack in to. Winning never hurts.

I like Florida, just hard to keep a non-hockey market into the sport when the team blows for over a decade.

How's that Florida pick look for ya now? lol Three goals in three games. Sadly, that's more than the Avs.

I think this is the biggest problem. They've only made it out of the first round once, and most of the time they're bottom feeders. No team could survive the ineptitude they've shown since their conception.

I really don't like this Tyler Myers talk to the Wings. Yes, there is upside there. But there is also a lot of money still to be paid to this kid and if he doesn't get better, then...yikes. He should be better with a team like Detroit with the skill up front and a good system, or with the Ducks are another rumored team, but it's still scary. Especially depending on what they'd have to give up.

well, some good news:

CBJ had one of the largest crowds in their history for opening night and the best TV ratings in history for a regular season game.

im interested to see what kind of crowd they have tonight, tuesday night early in the season against dallas.

Now you also add to the fact that they are in a division with Boston, Montreal, Tampa, Toronto and Detroit, it'll be hard for them to make the playoffs. You've got to leap frog a lot of teams.

First off, you OK man?

Second, I'm also liking what I'm seeing from NYI. Small sample size so far, but Boychuk has been great.

:thumbsup Totally. At what point do you call it quits, for the sake of all involved. It's gotta suck balls for the Panthers to step out onto the ice in front of that crowd. But also, like you said, winning doesn't hurt...

On one hand, Tyler Myers is one of my least favorite players. I pity him. He's just such a gentle giant who could do so much more. Right now, as-is, he's not worth what the Wings would have to pay.

On the other hand, if ANY coach can get a player to reach his potential, it's Mike Effing Babcock. From that perspective, I would absolutely love to see what Myers could do in that type of situation. Guys - he's got Rob Blake skills. Just needs to gain the confidence to access them.

I honestly believe that any team would fold under those conditions. I remember going to almost every Bruins game in 2006 and thinking about how empty the place was night in and night out. Even NY had some periods of empty nights in the late 90's when we sucked hard.

went to a ton of Bruins games in the mid 2000's, place was completely dead.

people on EEI made fun of hockey fans routinely.
