This isn't really Howson's fault though. I mean he at least put up an attempt to ice a good team. I really think this is on the coaching staff. The Blue Jackets have quit on their coach. They didn't even care about the result tonight in the locker room after the game.

Duncan Keith out for the Hawks for the 3rd straight game. Doesn't bode well. Should be an interesting game but I really wish we knew what the deal was with Keith. Day-to-day is turning into a week+ and it seems like Hossa and Keith each missed a couple weeks last year while being "day-to-day."

Bieksa on beating #Blackhawks in Game 7 last spring: "We felt like we won the Cup after that game." :lol :lol

Bolland on Vancouver game: "I love this day. I think the guys always love this day, too."

Toews: "There are some games over an 82-game schedule that just feel like another game. This is the exact opposite of that."

#Blackhawks center Dave Bolland on tonight's match-up vs. #Canucks: "It will be a crazy game."

I could not be more fired up for this game, and I just found out 10 minutes ago that I'm now going. I'm pretty much walking out the door right now to go to the library to study for my quiz tomorrow and then I'm shooting downtown, but Chris if you're going I'm sitting in section 329 right above the bar, and I'll probably be hanging out near that bar during intermissions.

Duncan Keith has played all 82 games the last two seasons. He's only missed (now 8) games his entire career. What he hell are you smoking?

The PK has suddenly devolved into exactly what it was last year. Extremely passive. The aggressiveness of the PK earlier in the season is what got us a few shorties but they've abandoned it. This team is really bad on D without #2.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Hawks haven't been playing very good for a while. Eddie touched on it toward the end of the game and I was glad he brought it up. It's good that they've been getting some wins, but their play has been anything but inspiring.

The team is still lacking a top-6 forward. Sharp - Kane - Hossa has been a good line but that leaves Toews carrying around a lot of dead weight. Now that Kane has started to suck at faceoffs, it gets hard to take Sharp off that line otherwise that line runs the risk of being completely victimized at the dot.

Hope Keith is back on Tuesday, otherwise it looks to be a long night against a team playing under a new coach.

Unfortunately, it's going to look a lot like this if the Hawks continue to field the same lineup, playing without any edge or back-bone at all. When Kane was crushed by Kesler early on, what was done about it? Nothing at all. I thought we picked up guys like Carcillo and Mayers to prevent opposing players from taking a run at 88 and 19.

All signs point to mediocre play continuing. Looks like Stalberg's little blip of success was another little flash in the pan. Pretty unfortunate that the best player on the team is stuck playing with 2 bottom-6 forwards. It's a damn shame that the hard work Toews puts in every game is being used dragging around Brunette and compensating for Stalberg's lack of any awareness at all. Time to bring up Smith or Morin because this team badly needs some top-6 help.

They get a slight pass because Keith was not in the lineup. But that doesn't really excuse the play of Seabrook and Hjalmarsson. They both looked slow, unwilling to throw any body checks, and were getting burned by the Sedins' skating all night long.

Can't say that game surprised me all that much because you could see it coming from the drop of the puck. Glad I'm not drinking the kool-aid like bonzo and lockman. But I do hope their optimism is warranted. The big question is how the team responds as a group. Unfortunately, I think the players are much more likely to bounce back than the coaching staff, which has run the PK and PP into the ground.

Tim "Glass" Connolly hurt out for 10-14 days. Not a good pick-up by the Leafs. Believed he got hurt on the PK in the first. He should not be on the PK, as good as he is on it, he is such a little girl when it comes to resilience

solid blog put it perfectly: "I couldn't help but recall last November. Then, the defending Conference (and Cup) champ was inconsistent, a bit injured, and having a hard time being motivated for every game. They struggled out of the gate. They had just been embarrassed on the road. They showed up at the arena of their biggest rival with their fans salivating at the thought of stamping a new order on the league. And the home team got gorilla stinkfisted. You remember, right? Was it the Hawks 7 - Canucks 2 that night? Felt the same, just on the other side of the looking glass."

NOT saying the Hawks are excused for last night, because it was embarassing. I'm saying, calm the fuck down. It's November, and there is no team in the West that has been consistently as good as the Hawks aside from Edmonton and Dallas.

That's a great point. I'm trying not to over-react and I don't think the team is going to fall apart because of this. Just saying that they do need some work and Stan could definitely pick up another player. This team has a dearth of very solid prospects and there will be a logjam on the NHL club in a few years, so might as well spin off 1 of them for a legit top-6 guy. Or, try out Morin if he's healthy and send down Olesz.

Apparently Keith will be back tomorrow night, though, so that's great news, and the top-2 D pairings in practice were 2-7 & 4-8 so that sounds good.

2 totally different situations. The Hawks lost a ton of players off their cup winning team and the Bruins returned basically the same exact team. That's why I refuse to accept the fact it was any sort of hangover. Just a cold streak like the Bruins go through every year for a few weeks. They've been dominant the last 3 games, and 2 of those games came against teams that were on 5 or 6 game winning streaks. The Bruins are one of the teams that have played the fewest games in the NHL thus far so I think they're really starting to find their stride after opening the season flat.

Bergeron between the two youngsters has been absolute magic.

...That sounded like the description of a 3sum :lol

Nice to see the top line clicking again. I love little things like the Horton-to-Lucic goal; Horton could have taken that shot, but selflessly dished it off to Lucic. The biggest thing to take away from something like this is that they are back to believing in each other.

Our top 2 lines have been unbelievable the past few games. I think Lucic is showing his 30 goal season was not a fluke last year. He took a lot of flack for his playoff performance but he was playing with a broken toe and a broken nose and it was reported he could hardly breathe have the time he was on this ice. And the Bergeron line has been scary good since Seguin got put on it. The Bruins announcer said it best last night when he said that Seguin is finally giving the Bruins a player that puts fans on the edge of their seats every time he touches the puck, which is something they haven't had in a while.

They clearly need a bit of time to gel a bit. But honestly I've already seen 4 and 7 together once, and I think I've seen Scott and Leddy on the ice at the same time.....

Either way, Scott on defense is never going to be a good situation. It already seems like he's gotten more minutes tonight than the entire season to this point.

:thumbsup Yup. Nobody is moving to the front of the net and when they do it's usually way too late.

Kane just gave Hossa a nice setup from just above the slot but he couldn't elevate the puck.

Hawks need this. 4 straight minutes with a man advantage, you have to score.

Who knows. Thank God for Duncan Keith tipping away that pass on the 2-on-1. The PP being so dreadful has definitely caused a lot of problems elsewhere.

And now a quick whistle. Fuck! Unbelievable. Just really bad luck right there.

A lose to the Stars on the road is acceptable. But losing the Isles is uncalled for. C'mon Caps

The Jets just got incredibly sloppy in the 3rd period. 3 or 4 penalties, including a 1:49 5 on 3.

Thanks Winnipeg.

Hard to imagine we could play much worse than Sunday but tonight, so far, has been right up there.

Horrible special teams is catching up with them, really. Really, really passive PK and bad coverage by Hjalmarrsson and Leddy on that PK. And the Hawks still are having a horrible time getting the puck into the offensive zone on the PP. They are dumping and it's getting sent right back out. The opposing teams are jamming up the blue line and the Hawks can't find a way to get through it.

And when they finally got some good chances and put a puck in the net, it is blown dead. So, not really getting a break either. But I need to see Toews step up right now. This is his time. Sometimes you need one player to make a big time play and grab back the momentum for your team.

is there anyone playing better than Khabibulin right now? He has allowed only nine goals in nine games this season, picking up seven wins and two overtime losses in the process.

Buffalo had no business winning this game.

Again, thanks Winnipeg, you worked hard to give that one away.

It only seemed right that Buffalo scored on a power play with 20ish seconds left in OT.

Enroth has been pretty hot, even as the backup. 4-0 in 5 appearances (played 53 out of the 60 minutes against Philly as well) and has only given up 7 goals.

Miller on the other hand, has looked awful.

PK has always been too passive of their coverage of opposing D-men. PP has one play and that's the backdoor play. They still try it every game despite every team in the league knowing that is there only play. It'd be nice if we had D-men that didn't shoot into someone's shin pads every play but that's not an option right now. Need to play with more passion and physicality.

And when on Earth can we call Ben Smith up?

If only the Wings could play the Avs every game Franzen would break Wayne's 92 goal record.

Also on FS-Detroit last night there was a new realignment thing thrown out. Similar to what HNIC had said but only Winnipeg moves to the West. 16 teams in the West and 14 in the East. The divisions in the west are what you'd think.

Detroit, CBJ, Chicago, Nashville, Minny, St Louis, Dallas, Winnipeg
Vancouver, CAL, EDM, SJ, ANH, LA, PHX, COL

The East I can't remember what they posted but Philly and Pit were in the same division. I swear I also saw somehow Boston was in the same division as well I could be wrong. I'm trying to google it but apparently no one posted it on any forum I can find.

Again with less travel out west for the Wings, seeing every team at Joe Louis every year plus division playoffs for the first two rounds? Sign me up.

And anyone who screams tradition with division and conference alignment here you go:

http://sports.yahoo.com/nhl/blog/puc...rn=nhl-wp16943

10 different alignments in 45 years. Pretty much every 4 years something changed so when you are arguing for or against any of this don't use the word tradition.

If they separate the Bruins and Habs when they realign the divisions that'd be a big mistake imo.

Yeah I would hope they wouldn't. Again the only thing I was looking at was if Pitt and Philly were in the same one so didn't pay attention to the rest as closely. If I find it later I'll post it or will post when I get home so I can check on my Tivo.

If they had a 14 team Eastern Conference I could see things shaking out like this.

Boston, Montreal, Toronto, Ottawa, Buffalo, Rangers, Islanders
TB, Carolina, Florida, Washington, Pittsburgh, Philly, New Jersey

So I was trying to figure out why I could not find tickets anywhere but Stub Hub for the Winter Classic, then I figured it out. The Flyers are even more retarded than I thought they were. They are the ONLY team to NOT sell Winter Classic tickets to the general public. Fuck you, Flyers.

Coburn extended for 4 years, it's like 18.5 mil overall. I like it. Coburn had a down year last season, and is still slumping through this season, but he's got a lot of potential and with D-men especially, they need more time to get seasoned.

I don't know what it is with frickin' sports-related moments... but I cried through most of that thing. Just like I do with Stanley Cup wins, hockey movies, etc. Becoming a dad has made me soft.

I came close on that Demitra thing. Its the family things that get me. Keep showing Korolev's wife crying and his daughters there. Same thing happened when the McCrimmon family was brought out before the Wings season opener.
