Oh my God, Winnipeg. Flyers have now scored 5 goals in 10 minutes, the last 3 in less than 2 minutes.

Obviously I don't want to see too many games like this but every once in a while it's pretty entertaining.

And I certainly hope the Hawks aren't watching.

Philadelphia - 8 goals on 48 shots

Bryz says he has "no confidence" right now, the lowest his confidence has been in his entire career.

That has to feel re-assuring considering you just signed him for what, $5.7m a year?

Yeah, so that was weird. Looks like the goalie problems in Philly never end.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Going back to some of the soundbites from last night's Flyers game. Here are some Kimmo Timonen quotes from last night:

"I felt like we were still playing the same game as we played in Montreal the last two periods... we should have learned and we didn't." He also said the team is lacking a desire to play defense: "It's a learning process but still playing defense is more desire and execution." He also refused to blame goalie Ilya Bryzgalov, who was blaming himself mercilessly last night.

I don't think I have ever witnessed a player so upset with himself than Bryzgalov last night. Thankfully, a couple of the beat guys reported he was in a great mood today and up to practice with a little swag in his step. Jeff Reese, the goalie coach, said he thinks Bryz is back in the right frame of mind. We'll find out tomorrow night vs Carolina.

Eh, I'm good with it. Carcillo is a repeat offender, and it was a dangerous play. Eerily similar to this hit:

http://youtu.be/1B4uX03vs8E

And we were begging for a suspension. Ovie should have gotten more than 2 games for that one, and probably would have under Shanahan.

Those are plays we're trying to eliminate. Bad play by Carcillo. It's really a love/hate relationship with this guy, and I know a lot of people were hopping too quickly on the "love Carcillo" bandwagon. I hate shit like that.

Come on now, if he were still a Flyer you would be applauding this decision. Carcillo is a repeat offender and needs to get it in his head that he needs to play not like a complete jackass. He is a good asset to have if not playing like an ass hat

I'm starting to think someone sold their soul for that 09 cup. Since Consol opened, Crosby, Malkin and Staal have only played 2 games together, and one of those games was the classic. The injuries just keep coming, but they've somehow been able to stay afloat.

Yeah, it's hard to argue with it. I don't think there was any intent to injure but it was a mistake in a dangerous spot on the ice.

Nice to see the Hawks win last night after their dreadful effort against Carolina. It's still early, but the Central is looking pretty bad so far with Detroit going on a 4-game losing skid. The Hawks have a solid record so far but haven't looked too dominant and they have some issues that need to be worked out, IMO.

Emery had a really, really solid game as well against the Jackets. He gave up a few rebounds but made some very good stops.

Here's the Hot Stove from HNIC talking about it:

http://www.cbc.ca/sports/hockeynight...#id=2162216125

Elliotte Friedman says he thinks Detroit stays in the West in this scenario. Again this is what I was ok with before. It helps Detroit in every way possible other than the move to the East. Probably only going to the far west twice at most is awesome and playoffs in division means no more Phoenix, Western Canada or Cali trips in the first two rounds. It benefits the teams like the Sharks, Ducks and so on too. Pens fans won't be happy with it because of losing Philly and only seeing them twice but is there a way everyone is happy? Probably not. You can make the Pens happier by moving them into the div. with Philly and moving the Canes out and I think that might create less of a problem.

I hate the Predators so damn much. They have no primary scorers, so anybody that scores annoys me. Weber and Suter are awesome, in the discussion for top pairing in the league. Rinne is a nut, and every single game is so goddamn boring, dump and chase, clog the neutral zone and no offense happens. Kill me.

Weber and Suter are the shit. Love Rinne. I hate the fact that we never take shots. Half of our power plays are the crowd yelling at the team to just take a fucking shot. If they'd start doing it more often then we'd be a lot better off.

You've got to be from here to love Tootoo...that's the only way.

I once thought as you do. Get back to me when you have kids.

I spent four hours carving Darth Vader's face last week. Thing looked awesome but lasted one fucking night. So a couple days ago I did one with Jack Skellington. Will post pix later.

Some would take this as a compliment.

There are many players like that in the league. Pronger is a prime example, except he is actually good. Tootoo, not.

Half the time he's the only guy on our team that actually shows some energy out there though. We get bursts here and there. Of course he's not that great but he actually works his ass off out there quite a bit which is more than a lot of our guys do.

Chris Pronger is not a penis. But if he was, and you got slapped by him, you would then be dick slapped.

So, yeah, I guess he is.

Really? I agree with the part about Tootoo, but from what I've watched of the Preds over the past couple years, they're one of the harder working teams in the league. As I look down their roster, it really is the only way for them to stay competitive, which they've managed to do the past couple years in a deep western conference. From what I've seen of the Preds, they perhaps epitomize better than anyone else the Herb Brooks quote from Miracle: "You think you can win on talent alone? Gentlemen, you don't have the talent to win on talent alone."

Yeah, their style is a bit trap-ish and boring, but Trotz has done a great job getting top effort out of a team lacking in high-end talent. He's been the perfect fit for a low-budget team.

I guess I was more pointing to this season so far in particular and there have definitely been times in the past where I've noticed it as well. I agree that Trotz has done an outstanding job though. Couldn't be happier with him even if the games can get a bit boring from time to time.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The fact that Barry Trotz hasn't won the Jack Adams award is a crime in itself. Every season Nashville puts out a playoff caliber team with absolutely no offensive scoring punch like you see from other teams. And yet, they're just so good defensively.

Well that's a nice way to start a game.

Hawks get 2 PP's in the first 5 minutes and are down 1-0. They have looked pretty lifeless the last 2 games and no different tonight. Sloppy, lazy team right now.

Martin Erat is so annoying

Hawks look dreadful. No urgency.

How Rinne stopped some of those shots on that 5 on 3 I'll never know.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I love watching both Rinne and Craw play. Both do it so well. Makes the game that much more fun.

There are few teams I hate watching more than the Preds.

Patrick Kane is a mother fucker.

Rinne is unreal. Seriously saved 3 or 4 shots tonight that most goalies in the league don't save.

Well, with the Hawks going to the PP we're basically guaranteed OT.

the PP has looked alright tonight, Rinne just happens to be in net

Unreal saves by Rinne tonight.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Hawks looked pretty good for the most part tonight. Game could have easily been 10-4. Rinne was that good.

Great to see Stalberg look so strong.

bonzo48280 10-31-2011 08:16 PM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Yep, really liking this team, and our power play is probably last in the league now. Happy.
