I know I cheer for the Oilers, but it doesn't make the sting of losing to Buffalo any less.

They lost to the Sabres? Ouch.

Not sure what this means. It actually looked very good from my point of view, which is what I said. Played a hell of a road game and stuck with a Kings team that's much better than them. Came up a shootout goal short. If they didn't need points so badly I'd be pretty thrilled with last night's result

So unless the Hawks or Avs go on a crazy winning streak and the Blues faulter a bit it's looking like Hawks and Avs in round 1 huh? Just not sure who gets home ice. That could be a good first round series.

On the topic of my team, the Grif-Wings, they need to get at least 3 points this weekend against the Wild. I said at the start of the week that of the 4 games they had this week they would have to get 4 or 5 of the 8 points to stay alive and they've got the 4 so lets get another. The games against the Jackets and Habs next week could be huge.

That was a crazy game. Every time the Pens are at Joe Louis, crazy goals go in for both teams. When the Wings went down 3-2 I thought well that's it. They showed heart and what a kill on that amazingly stupid penalty by Legwand. Couldn't have picked a worse time to do that.

yea seriously, very dumb penalty

the crazy thing is that the pens actually had a good powerplay there

pens had 16 shots on the PP alone last night, howard stole one along with some own goals by the pens

seriously though, the pens have a 0% chance of making noise in the playoffs

you know what'll happen?

pens will get hot for a little bit, make a little run, then flame out again

Pens Front Office: "you get an extension! he gets an extension! everyone gets an extension!"

And depending on how things work out, could be Wings/Pens in round one. That could be a fun series, well if the Wings can be healthier by then.

nash's first game back in columbus tonight.

looks like it will be the first sell-out since opening night.
huge game.
if the jackets win they will be 2 points ahead of the rangers with a game in-hand.

Yeah, not even the Wings 10 days ago was a sellout? Figured being a huge game against a hated and popular team would have brought the people.

yea that's surprising for a team that's been in playoff discussion all year basically

they might have sold out one of the penguins games but that doesn't count in my mind because it was 60% pens fans.
they've had some good crowds but i haven't seen them announce any sell-outs, looking at the ticketmaster page for tonight there are only a couple hundred seats left.

i imagine the jackets get off to a slow start having played an intense game in montreal last night and the rangers have been off since Tuesday.

wings game last tuesday was one of the worst crowds in a while and there were a lot of wings fans.

I will not allow that. Regulation to the Jackets cause then the Wings are only one point back of the Rangers with 2 games in hand.

Really surprised by the Wings game. I know it's Tuesday but huge game in the playoff picture.

when you've sucked for 13 straight years in a non-natural hockey city you're going to have to do more than be in the playoff discussion to get the fans back into the arena.

not to mention the way they price tickets is beyond stupid.

for example, tonight is one of 5 "classic games" where they charge essentially 2x face value. I think that's a joke for a team that can't fill the arena more than 5-6 times per season.

Yep, been planning on it for the past week or so. I think the Hawks end up with home ice.

yea that's stupid, the pirates recently started something similar called "dynamic pricing" where if the yanks or red sox are in town, or kershaw is scheduled to pitch etc...the tix are pricier

but they waited to do that until AFTER the attendance was spiking lol

I was surprised too at how weak it was. One difference is that the fans that are going are way more involved in the game. When Jenner scored to break the 1-1 tie in the 3rd was one of the loudest I've ever heard the place.

Talking about all the possible changes in some non-playoff teams. Cam Ward and E Staal in Carolina, Trotz in Nashville and others. Where do guys think Ward could go?

Also Roy seemed the easiest for coach of the year, if Wings make the playoffs Babcock has to be talked about.

He'd probably be on my short list. The thing is with the Jackets are they doing anything beyond what we expected? I expected them to challenge for the playoffs and maybe get in and that's where they are. Wings I'd put Babcock there cause of the injuries. Roy because who the hell thought the Avs would be fighting for 2nd in the Central?

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Going into last year the Jackets were considered by many to be the worst team in the NHL. I think it's pretty amazing what he's gotten out of this group.
