Horrible move if that is true. Hunter saved their season.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Again, I think it's perfect for Hunter. He was stuck with players who totally didn't jive with his system. The fact he was able to turn things around for them and get some of the guys to buy into it is a testament that he's got what it takes to coach in the NHL. He's now a free agent who can field offers from other teams, evaluate which will be the best fit, and go from there.

I imagine Washington will go after someone like Bob Hartley, who's rumored to be wanting back in.

And you'd be wrong. :lol

I get that you're one of the many "Flyers can do no wrong" fans out there, but come on. No one should be calling the Flyers "losers" in the deal, because guys like Simmonds and Schenn both seem to have very bright, successful futures ahead of them in Philly, but if the Kings win a Cup this year after acquiring Richards and Carter, not calling them the "winners" of those moves is just plain ignorant.

I don't think Hunter ever really wanted to be there. He'll go back to London and continue producing OHL champs.

You are a fucking idiot. I am getting tired of your negativity towards the team and just shitty views in general. As been stated before, this deal will take time to see who the true winners are. Also, Carter and Richards have a combined 13 points in the 10 playoff games. It is not like they are the reason for the Kings success.

Don't you have a talk show to get ready for, Missanelli?

I think the biggest loser in the Hunter being gone thing is Ovechkin. He could have been a much better hockey player if he continued (save that last game) playing like he did under Hunter.

Yeah it'll take time to see the winners and losers of the Carter and Richards deals because of the youth of the guys the Flyers got back.

An extremely insightful point :thumbsup. This was Ovechkin's chance to really show what he was made of.

My take, as negative as it sounds: Because of the playoff exit, Capitals brass will now claim, "Well we tried with the different system and it didn't work" and will probably hire some run-and-gun guy who will pander to Ovechkin again. Despite the winning, brass couldn't have liked that their principal marketing piece was only playing 15 minutes a game.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Hunter's style of play was so boring to watch. It was effective but the Caps were arguably the most boring team in the NHL with him behind the bench. They need to find a head coach that will maintain the accountability on the defensive end but open it up a bit and play a faster paced game for their offensive talent.

Yeah I could see them doing that. And while they again lost in round 2 I look at this as a much more successful run. They were not the best team in either round like they have always been in the past. Beating the champs is an accomplishment and the fact you should have probably beaten the #1 seed is too considering where they came from.

So I'm an idiot because I choose to consider the state of the Flyers from a realistic standpoint rather than through orange glasses? Give me a fucking break. You kiss this team's ass to no end, regardless of the fact that they haven't won shit in 37 years. I'm glad you're fine accepting such mediocrity, but being a fan doesn't mean you have to blindly praise everything your team does.

And as such an authority on all things hockey, I'm pretty surprised by the fact that you consider points to be the only measure of a player's value. If Carter and Richards hoist the Cup this year, saying that the Flyers "won" that trade, at this point, is asinine.

The least of all the evils for me is NYR winning the Cup. I'd root for LA any other year but this because I don't want to hear our jackass idiot fans think the trades were wrong, ride the dick of Carts and Richie or the media buy into it and see some of our biggest asshole writers act like jackasses.

NJ has won enough Cups and Phoenix doesn't deserve shit in my book :lol

NYR has a lot of likable players and I think it would be a beautiful year for Hank to win the Vezina, Conn Smyth and Cup in one go haha. Also love Cally and I know a lot of people (I don't) really like Gabby.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The Flyers got four fantastic young players under the age of 23 for two "stars" who are still a couple of headcases in a city that can enhance the temptations that got them in trouble in Philly. Someone is getting arrested this offseason and I can't wait haha.

Their partying tour has potential to be more epic than Marchand and Seguin's.

Another "blow" to the Caps, Semin won't be back:

We all know he's just waiting to see where Hunter goes so he can join him there. ;)

He'll probably run back to Russia. Very talented but he doesn't seem to have any sort of work ethic.

Even those the Devils gave us a run for our money during the regular season, I'm feeling pretty confident about this series. Maybe it's all the hype surrounding the matchup, we'll see!

My thoughts exactly. It's obvious that he isn't willing to put in the work required to be a solid NHL player. He'll sign with a team in Russia, score 60+ goals a year and probably have a dandy of a career in a mediocre league.

I want the Hawks to get Wideman too. That's be awesome to see that team just dismantle.

Brodeur doesn't seem too confident.

Quote:

“He’s unbelievable. He is lately. He’s kind of the top goalie in the NHL right now. And I think I was in that position once,” Brodeur said.
“I’ll do my best to try to match up, but it’s going to be pretty hard. He’s a pretty good goalie.”

Meh, just giving the guy some respect. Nice to see that instead of the Luongo/Tim Thomas route.

Pretty tame game so far. Rangers don't look like they've played two 7 game series.
