Of course they do. Haters gonna hate. Champs gonna celebrate.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

I found a list the other day of players with a comparable cap hit around the NHL in some article I was reading about this. I wish I could find it now. Wilson’s cap hit just simply is not that out of line with the rest of the league. It just isn’t.

Removing my own post based on bad information.

Wilson contract is fine. So was the Brady Skjei contract for NY. Cheers!

Wilson is essentially Hornqvist but more physical and better two way player

Wilson is 4 years younger when Hornqvist signed his deal which would be slightly over $6 mil cap hit in current value

Yea - just a goon

He spent one of those years exclusively on the 4th line

That's a lot of money for 16 goals, no? And didn't he play something like 50 games on a line with Ovi and Kuznetsov (no idea how to spell his name)?

That's a lot of money and not a ton of production out of a first line guy for that dollar amount.

Apart of the fear is associated with that style of player. When they hit it big like Wilson has they feel a need to play outside of their game.

Regardless, I hope it doesn't affect Nylander's contract in any way because the Leafs are going to be awesome to watch. I'm so excited.

I think when you just won the cup in a market that never wins the cup, a lot can be forgiven. The guy is only 24 and has probably not hit his prime yet. The Caps fans like him and he has a lot of potential to be solid for the length of that deal. Yes, if he doesn't keep his cool and makes some more bad hits, it could bite the Caps in the long run. However, the Caps organization has a lot of equity to spend right now coming off that Cup run.

If you are a Caps fan, you just hope that the following decade doesn't follow the path teams like the NY Rangers or Carolina Hurricanes after their cup wins.

I mean, I didn't get Eagles drunk when they won the Super Bowl. I don't want the team making stupid decisions and go "oh, it's OK. They just won. I won't mind anther 58 years of not winning."

It's why, at the time, I was pissed at what the Phillies were doing after 2008. (In hindsight, none of the players they traded amounted to jack shit.)

I think the point was that the team and fans believe there is an upward trend of potential in TW and at the age of 24 it was worth the risk. If it doesn't work out, hey, you just won the cup!

Look, my Rangers mortgaged their future like crazy in 1994 and the decade after. As a result, I lived through 8 straight seasons without the playoffs and the closest I got to the cup as a Rangers fan was a 1-4 series loss in 2014. I know you can F it up after a cup win. I just think the Caps taking one chance on a 24 year old kid that does have some solid upsides is not the end of the world.

Would I prefer Skjei at 24 over TW for basically the same money...yes I would. On the other hand, the Caps fans just won the cup.

Being satisfied with winning one and potentially handcuffing yourself with a bad contract going forward is a terrible mindset to have, and that's coming from someone who has seen just two championships in Philly (that mean something) during his lifetime.

I agree with your post expect that it is your opinion that they are handcuffing themselves with a bad contract. The Capitals and their fan base don't share that opinion. That is where it breaks down.

I fall in the middle on this one because I can see both sides of it. It is a positive that he is only 24 years old though. If he was even 28 + I would say that deal was horrid. I just think there is a chance it could work out for them as well given his current youth.

Who said Willy's contract was bad? Who said Caps were satisfied with one cup?

I followed PK on IG for some reason, never really understood the hate for him personally, until now. Wow that guy is a douche.

Yesterday he recorded himself getting electro shock treatments on his thighs, he was in his boxers and he clearly just did it to show off his junk. fuckin weirdo.

Was it on his live story? Nothing on his IG anymore. I didn't see this particular video so I don't know how obvious it was he's showing off junk....but, I've seen numerous athletes post videos of electroshock treatment.

I really like PK, but understand the hate he gets.

I literally still spend all of my free time watching clips of the Caps winning the Cup. How long does this take to wear off?

Cody Ceci rewarded $4.3 in arbitration - and people think Wilson got overpaid :lol

Whenever they lose in the playoffs next. Not that it's completely gone and you won't watch stuff even years later but it's like "oh someone else has it now."

I still watch the Philly Special and we're six months past that, so at least until then.

Me too - For me it will never wear off.

All the heartbreak and suffering & finally then breaking through watching and reliving the memories and the emotions will never get old. My kids and grand kids will ultimately get sick of watching it I'm sure though :lol

Yeah...I still watch the Marty St. Louis OT goal in the ECF against Montreal, the final seconds and ECF Championship win in 2014 and the Derek Stepan goal in Game 7 OT against the Caps on almost a weekly basis. All of those are 3+ years old.

So I am going to vote....it never wears off. Maybe when you win the Cup again...?

That goal was brutal - bounce went right to him - I've watched that replay a handful of times

I watch that all the time because it blew the roof off the Garden that night. Energy was insane in that moment!

I remember where I was when that goal went in

I also remember where I was when the Joel Ward goal got overturned in Game 5 - didn't think that was goalie interference but really haven't been able to find a video replay to look it over
