So, while I have had similar feelings seeing this in other games I did choose this particular instance to voice my strong opinion against the rule.

Don’t fuck up hockey though has always been my feeling.

Picking apart off sides minutes after a goal is a terrible idea.

Having continuation in a sport that is fluid has to happen. An illegal play is an illegal play. The way you fuck it up is trying to review every zone entry. Do the ones that matter (when there is a goal) and let the on ice refs handle the rest.


Can you imagine losing a SCF game in OT because an on ice ref missed a blatant offsides? (I know this may be hard for a Caps fan but I think you’ve got enough imagination)

I think it’s a dumb rule and is bad for the game (all games, all teams).

And to add to that. There’s no telling how quick a goal can come after a zone entry. You can’t just arbitrarily say “well if they’ve had zone possession for more than 30 seconds we won’t review it”.

Agreed. I have always felt this way about these situations, and have said so many times in here. 0% homer post.

It’s gotta be the way it is, but negating goals based on minimal/non impactful offsides plays is probably not the original spirit of the rule change

Sure, if there’s a stoppage and it’s let go, don’t review it. If the play is current and still in the zone, i just can’t see any kind of solid argument not to look at it. We look at everything else that could be illegal about a goal. And like I said, I think they actually do a good job of not overturning ones that aren’t obvious.

You realize how many times a zone is entered and the puck is passed around before a shot attempt right?

So you’re saying you’d be okay with that, but not if there was a quick shot then a score off a rebound?


You talk about ruining the game, trying to make refs determine that muddles the rule even further... just like a catch in the nfl.

So I enter the zone with the puck, offsides, and it's not called. My shot is saved by the goalie but the rebound gets netted. No review? You guys are nuts.

See my post above. You’re trying to make the rule more complicated than it needs to be.

Hockey is so fluid, it’s not football. Pucks bounce off of stuff etc.

So if a pass is deflected then the attacking team recovers, it shouldn’t be reviewable?

You’re just making absurd statement. Making the rule more complicated makes it worse. It’s fine how it is.

I vote scrap the replay altogether . Who cares if a skate was a millimeter off the ice when the puck entered the zone. If they miss a few they miss a few.
