Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

It's just lazy journalism from the local beat writers. National hacks use the same argument every time a goalie "chokes" in Philly. All it is as a narrative is redundant. The reason why the Hawks won in 2010 was not because of Michael Leighton, but because the Flyers didn't have a strong enough 3rd D-pairing. In 2004, the Flyers lost to Tampa in 7 games in the ECF because of injuries, not goaltending. In 2000, the Flyers blew a 3-1 series lead against the Devils because Lindros, not Boucher. In 1997, Ron Hextall and Garth Snow didn't lose the series--the Flyers had no offensive depth outside of the Legion of Doom.

Hextal and Snow gave up badly timed goals though. It wasn't all on them though you're right. For me it's just they never seemed to want to settle on anyone. Hextall/Snow, Burke, Beezer, Boucher, Cechmanek, Esche all over the course of like 8 years and the first 6 guys was over 5 years.

Wow, for once I hit the nail on the head for Valentines day. My mom has always been a hockey fan, taught me how to skate and was supportive while I played and stuff but was always a Rangers fan while I went from the Whalers to the Hawks. She always watches the Rangers because they are on local TV but I gave her the credentials to use my NHL live account on her Roku and sometimes I will visit and she will watch a Hawks game with me - now she uses it to watch plenty of games. During the WC she was really impressed with Tarasenko so she has been watching Blues games here and there to watch him (she also told me she now watches Minnesota because of their speed and skill) so she is getting more exposed to the western conference. Anyhow, last week I ordered her a Taraseko T-shirt on a whim hoping she'd like it, holy shit, when I brought it to her she was so damn happy I was stunned. Might be the best damn gift I ever gave her for anything and I ordered the thing on a whim! All that said dealing with me for years she can probably name more Hawks than Rangers at this point! :lol

Agreed, outside of game 1 when it seemed like both teams didn't even have a guy in net that was one helluva close series. 2 damn good teams battling it out and perhaps if Chicago didn't have better blue line depth the series could have gone the other way.

Completely out of the blue, rather puzzling move to be honest. Does Julien have some connection to the Canadiens that I am unaware of?

He started coaching there in 2003...replacing you guessed it, Michel Therrien.

"This is the second time the Montreal Canadiens have fired Michel Therrien. Both times he was replaced by Claude Julien."

He speaks French. I think that is it.

He might be the best available coach, but I don't think this is a fuck you to the Bruins, he doesn't fit their style of play...the game has passed Julien years ago

Wow, weird, maybe the second time is a charm? Pretty sure they would likely have won the Atlantic with Therrien but I don't really see them making it much further than the second round, perhaps the ECF depending on how the matchups play out!
