Beg to differ, certain situations I can see where a guy would retaliate. I recall one shithead on an opposing team who speared our best foreword right in the adams apple on purpose to the point where my guy was spewing blood all over the ice and didn't return for weeks. Next chance I got I crosschecked the dude right into the unprotected part of his back right under the helmet and drove him into the boards - he was out the rest of the game, I only got a two minute minor because the ref knew exactly why I did it.

Oh Jamie, so much wrong with this. There's so many other ways to hold someone accountable, all of them safer. A solid hip check (my favorite), standing them up at the blue line, at the very worst, face them and fight. But a cross check in the neck into the boards? That's potentially life altering. Believe me, I know. Not saying crap like what that guy pulled on your teammate should be ignored, it just needs to be handled in a way that won't turn someone into a vegetable. Shame on that ref for only giving you a minor.

Not trying to attack you, this is just something that's very close to me. We all want to protect our teammates, but sometimes we just need to pause for one second, take a breath, and put it into perspective.

The organization is awful. Their owner is a snob who had the audacity a decade ago to call his franchise "the gold standard" for the NFL, and the fan base is absolutely atrocious. People go on and on and on about Flyers fans, but Flyers fans don't even begin to touch the fringes of how awful Eagles fans are.

Lurie is a terrible owner. The Eagles had a shot back in the early 2000s to be something and he did nothing substantial to push them to the top. The only year he did address their biggest need (a top notch WR for McNabb), they came real close to winning the SB.

Blues have won 6 straight and 7 out of 8 since making their coaching change. Suddenly have to make a decision as to whether they are buyers or sellers at the trade deadline. I tend to think with Fabbri going down they probably aren't contenders need to move Shattenkirk at the least and make sure they get something for him, but man, they are playing very well right now.

See I think Shats is staying put. Just see what happens. The asking price for him is pretty high from what I've read and I don't see many teams giving it up for him. They can still get something (although much smaller) around the time of the draft and trade his negotiating rights.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but as an unrestricted free agent, St. Louis doesn't have any negotiating rights to trade away, do they?

Before July 1st they do. So he can't sign a contract before July 1 so if a team wanted to get a start on it, they could trade a conditional pick to St Louis to negotiate with him and get it done before he hits the market. The cost goes down because some teams will say I'll take my chances and wait. The asking price right now is a 1st and a top prospect and that's a lot to give up.

I am growing increasingly frustrated so maybe one of you internet sleuths can help. Trying to find a Stanley Cup ashtray for my mom's Birthday - or even maybe a Rangers or Hawks ashtray. I cannot find squat except a handful of random team ones on eBay. I recall when a team won a cup they'd sell glass ones with the team logo and the cup symbol on them, cannot find a single one of amazon or eBay. Any help would be appreciated.

Convinced Flyers should just sell at the deadline. Trade one of the goalies and any of Streit/Schultz/MDZ. Shame this is a weak draft so it's not like they'll find anyone good in the top 14 either. Bad year to be below average.

I am now thinking that Brent Burns might end up winning the Hart trophy along with the Norris. Just looking at his stats he is carrying the Sharks offensively as well as playing shut down D and eating up an average of nearly 25 minutes per game. Only Crosby and McDavid have ore points (Burns is only 5 out of the #1 slot) Dude has 25 goals, 5 game winners, 36 assists and is a plus 20 on the season. I was looking at his stats last night and was stunned. I know it is rare for a D man to get this award but if he stays healthy and keeps up this production you can easily make a case for him being the MVP.

Very happy for you Kev, that is great to hear. Better start saving money now to get him some skates, pads, sticks, pucks, etc, etc when he is 2 or 3 and you will Luke in the Flyers farm system in about 16 years! :)

I also agree completely with what you say about this thread - to me it is the best thread on this site. Always great discussions with informed people who are always kind. Yeah, we bust each others chops here and there but no one has any genuine malice in their wisecracks, we just differ in opinions on things since we cheer for so many different teams. Barbs probably takes the most digs since he is a Caps fan so we all twist his tail a bit but it would not be any fun if he was not a good person who responds with similar wisecracks. Also, people like you Kev, Sarah, Matty, etc, etc keep this thread fun and rolling along. Reading through this thread and chatting with you all is such a nice break from the normal day to day crap - it is almost like taking a xanax and tuning out the world for a bit when I am in here. I thank all of you for the great discussions and respect everyone except those who think Jamie Benn is a center because they are idiots! :)

Yeah, San Jose is sitting 4 points atop the pacific right now and only Minnesota and Chicago have better records in the western conference. I know the Sharks have some great players but he is the guy driving that bus this year, he is putting together a career year - without his production I am not sure where San Jose would be in the standings - especially since Thornton and Ward have seemingly forgot how to score a damn goal. I think he is a shoe in for the Norris and the dark horse for the Hart because he has become 'the guy' on a damn good team.

They need to rethink this mandatory week off nonsense. Teams get all out of sync because they cannot practice as a squad until the day before their game and it shows in rustiness plus it is worse for teams who are streaking before the break. The stats show that nearly all teams coming off that break get burned, even the best of teams. I get why they did it because of the WCOH but maybe instead of forcing this idea down their throats they should have just extended the all star break for 2 extra days.
