John Mayer

I know a lot of people give John Mayer shit for being poppy and too mainstream, but give a listen to "Edge of Desire", just a phenomenal song. Insane guitar riff. Has a jam in the middle that reminds me so much of something DMB would do.

Nicely done. This is obviously a trap to discover IllegalSmiles' latest alter.

One of my least favorite songs on his new album.

This is definitely the first thread we've ever had on Ants about John Mayer.

Wow, really? I think it's amazing.

Should I have made a thread about how Texas got beat in the BCS Championship game instead? And mentioned how big of a bitch Colt McCoy is? That does sound much better, actually.

Kuddos to the Mayer thread. I, unlike probably everyone else, am a big Mayer fan. :thumbsup

Of course not; further, now I do not need any elaboration on the subject of you being a complete toolbox. Thanks!

Didn't take long for this thread to spiral out of control.

I am a huge Mayer fan, but Battle Studies is a pretty poor album.

It's tough to avoid when a thread gets hijacked by a host of idiots who have absolutely nothing positive or relevant to contribute. I tried.

Whoa there horsey. Just because you didn't get the joke doesn't make me a "toolbox." Also, the second part was a joke too. I probably should have added a :violent or a :twenty4 to emphasize my sarcasm. I just didn't feel like explaining my joke. If you must know, IllegalSmile is infamous around here for invading any John Mayer thread and spamming it with hatred for JM.

That's all I needed. It is hard to perceive sarcasm over text; not to mention, I had no prior knowledge of this John Mayer hater, so I was completely in the dark. My apologies.

It's cool. It'll happen eventually so you'll get to experience the magic that is IllegalSmile. :D

As for JM, I too love his music. Like most people here I like his bluesy side more, but I still enjoy a good amount of his more "poppy" music. In the interview that came with the Battle Studies pre-order Mayer said that BS was going to be his last love album, or something to that effect, which hopefully means he'll start focusing on his guitar rather than his penis.

No love for "edge of desire"? I think that guitar riff is mesmerizing.

I think Perfectly Lonely and Assassin are my top 2 songs off this album.

Oh I love most of the stuff from Battle Studies. It's just not as strong as I think it should be, and I think that's due to him focusing more on lyrics and pleasing his legion of pop fans.

It's ok, but it gets lost in that album because every single song blends together (minus Assassin).

Battle Studies is so bad. Very disappointed, cause I really like John Mayer. But this album was so god damn cheesy and boring. Same goes for this tune.
