Oduya is top 4 on one of the best defensive cores in the league (possibly the best) and top 4 on a silver medal team. He's a lot better than people think.

Glad he's out of that cluster fuck finally. Funny part is him and Thomas are now teammates :lol, for now anyway.

Edit: how do the Canucks go from Schneider and Luongo to Eddie Lack all in less than a year? Bad moves.

He is going to block a lot of shots but makes a lot of mistakes near his own net and is not very physical. Decent 2nd pair dman on the pp, too.

He wasn't talking about Oduya there, Mike.

Bobby Lou back to the Panthers. Gillis has officially hit the reset button.

Tomorrow is on pace to be a bore.

Gillis should be fired for getting rid of both Schneider and Luo, awful ideas IMO.

Yeah, I don't know how you can get rid of both of those guys.

Are you really a prospect at 24? AHL fodder.

Best news on luongo is that Fla should pass. Isles now which means better draft pick :D

Everyone else called him a prospect haha.

And Florida is so dumb in giving up on Markstrom.

Rumors coming out that the reason for Kesler/Luongo getting to this point is huge conflicts with Torts.

So how long until Vancouver riots?

Torts is a terrible coach. So awesome he's in Vancouver.

Sooooooo happy for Luongo.

This is what I was guessing.

Yeah, the Canucks have given up on this year. Kesler will be gone tomorrow.

How much longer can Gillis keep his job with the mess he's created?

EDIT: Might as well unload Edler too at this point.

Lol. No, I know. I think they call anyone in a trade not in the NHL a prospect.

As for Markstrom, I agree. Even though it seems like we've been hearing about him forever and he hasn't "arrived", its too early for a team in fla's situation

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

The Panthers are in a tough spot, so I don't blame them too much for trading for Luongo, even at the expense of Backstrom. On one hand, they want to rebuild and stock the roster with young talent. On the other hand, they don't have the luxury of being in a hockey-crazy market who will support them through tough times, like the Oilers and Flames. Basically, the Panthers need to put butts in seats to remain financially viable, and marketable players will do that. They can market the hell out of Luongo, and should see some success doing it. He won't instantly sell out the rink, but he will help.

Unfortunately, this is a short-term solution to a very long-term problem for a team like the Panthers.

Seriously...to both of these. Torts's whole thing has gotten tired and old.

Also, as fun as it was to hate on ol' Bobby Lou during the heat of the Canucks/Blackhawks rivalry, the guy has been nothing but class about the whole thing. Heart goes out to him.

I'd be so upset if I were a Canucks fan. James Mirtle made a great point when he said:

"If I'm a Canucks fan, what worries me is management seems to have no plan here. Why deal Schneider in June then do this? It's nuts."

There seems to be no real direction in the front office, then again, I think they didn't see this season playing out this way. I think they thought they would be top 3 in the West again.

I mean, it's not like Lack is a scrub, but this thing is crazy.

Important part is the bolded, especially considering what Matty just said. Markstrom might turn out to be a hell of a talent, but it's not working out as well as they would have liked yet, and Bobby Lou is a big name that Panthers fans know already.

Seems like a good haul for the Panthers to me, especially considering Vancouver is retaining part of the salary.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

This is a classic Dale Talon move. He's a GREAT GM for markets that aren't exactly thriving. You need to spend money, and bring in names to try and get the team in contention. He knows that, and Bobby Lou was a big win for FLA.

Vancouver in full melt down mode as well.

:thumbsup (And obviously I meant Markstrom in my post before, not Backstrom. Sorry)

Luongo's "star" power mixed with his past history with the club will be one of the bigger draws the Panthers have had in a while. They can market every single game like a playoff game for the rest of the season probably... "Luongo's first game in a Panthers uniform against the Sabres in 12 years!" or whatever. It's silly, but it's what they will do. And they should.

Great day for Lou. Never been so happy for a non-Red Wings move. Didn't even think about Thomas and him together. Wonder who will be pumping whose tires. lol

I really hope Pirri settles in to a role there. They have some talent and some draft picks to make the future happen.

Blackhawks get David Rundblad from the Phoenix Coyotes of Glendale in Arizona.

Not sure why.

lockman21 03-04-2014 02:47 PM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Honestly feel like this is the start of a bigger deal, needing to add a defenseman to the roster before dealing another one.

Could obviously be wrong though. A 2nd round pick seems like a lot for Rundblad.

I hope so, too. It really sucks to see them floundering like this for so long. I just want something good to happen for them.
