Meetings all through the weekend with NHL, NHLPA and physicians. None want to bail on awarding the cup this year uf possible so we should hear something soon. Presently it appears they are leaning towards a 24 team round robin type format (so players can get their game going again and the league can fulfil its contract to hold X games for TV), all games will be played in 4 hub cities, no fans, only players on the ice will be exempt from a mask, minimal and masked arena/nhl personnel on hand, no team celebrating goals for too long and sadly no handshakes after a game that decided a series. Hopefully we will know soon.

German first league soccer started Saturday with much the same in game safety precautions so we can hope that will bode well.

I miss hockey!! I miss sports in general!

And Tampa's season would have been over over a month ago.

They just cannot seem to get over the hump and win a cup and they have been a legitimate contender since their trip to the final in 2015. Such great players, dynamic play in the regular season and then crumble in playoff games. No idea why.

After reading key points from the NHL document today, I don't see hockey happening for a long time. Too much uncertainty. Too much to control. TOO MUCH!.

It will come back this summer. They risk losing way too much money in TV deals and losing their contracts for future TV deals if they don’t. I know it is a lot overcome, but they will need to figure it out.

If no Cup is Awarded that means the Leafs didn't lose to the Bruins this year and didn't lose the cup. If we didn't lose the cup, it means we won the cup. Plan the parade. Leafs are cup winners!

Round robin for seeding is awful. Could really screw the bruins who are 8 up on TB, 10 up on caps and 11 up on philly.

Would you rather have them play no games at all and just play? Because that would be even worse.

Well that has nothing to do with what I said.

They’ve gotta do something to make the top 4 teams have meaningful games to play while 5-12 actually play playoff games. Playing for seeding makes as much sense as anything else would.

Basically means the first 70 games for the bruins means nothing

It pretty much does every season. See Tampa for example 1 of this.

President trophy winners don’t historically go on to win the cup. Only happens 8 times. Also, the Bruins don’t typically win SC finals anyway.

Point being, with COVID-19, I’m just glad we are getting hockey most likely.

Re: The NHL Thread

The regular season does matter. The better you do the better your chances of winning the cup. If you win the Presidents cup you have a 30% chance of winning the Stanley Cup, which actually is high.

But if you dont win the President's Cup you have a 70% chance

Re: The NHL Thread

The only bad take is being concerned at all about seeding. It’s literally a once in a hundred years event. It’s basically a brand new season for every team anyway. Real sorry it didn’t cater more to the Bruins. Excuse me while the rest of us continue to not care.

pathetic 05-27-2020 04:34 AM

Re: The NHL Thread

Well aware of how president trophy teams do historically. Definitely some bad takes in here.. so seeding doesn’t matter because tampa choked last year and it would be catering to the bruins to let the round robin play out with current point standings over 70 games? Lol got it

Roose13 05-27-2020 04:58 AM

Re: The NHL Thread

Round robin does suck for teams like Boston, but those teams need to have some meaningful games too to be ready for a team coming off playing games.
