I can easily say tonight was a good night for a Flyers fan and an incredibly awful night for a Pens fan.

Views for the WC. Mine are okay. I'm not to terribly impressed. Section 145 for me. But hey, I'm just going for the experience of it all.

Thanks for that man! I'm in 433 (Flyers shoot twice).

So I know my fellow Flyers fans wanted to relive our goalie troubles so much that I decided to write about it heading into the Alumni Game:

Thank you for not throwing Leighton under the bus like the rest of the 99% of Flyers fans.

Leighton deserves every bit of criticism he receives - most people I know think of him as a mediocre goalie who rode a hot streak to the Finals, where he proceeded to allow 20 goals in 6 games, including the softest Cup winner ever. Not sure how else he should be viewed.

I still remember Pronger after game six saying something like, "It was hard to see what happened so I didn't know where the puck was. But someone did," clearly referring to Leighton. :lol

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Look, I know Leighton was a completely mediocre goalie who was on a hot streak. But people forget that he was a big reason as to why they even had the run. Was I grateful for his play? Hell yea. But him allowing that soft goal was the epitome of his career. That being said, I don't hate the guy and I will never throw him under the bus out of gratitude but I don't want him on this team anymore and I know he's not a good goalie.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Let's remember he started the season in the 3-4 position on the depth chart. He'd never even been a starting goalie, much less one playing for the Stanley Cup. He was thrown into a difficult situation and I'd say he performed pretty damn admirably considering the circumstances.

Goalies (and coaches) take most of the blame for losses, but the Flyers lost that Stanley Cup Final, not Michael Leighton. I think of all the goalies in the Flyers recent history, he should be one of the last to be thrown under the bus... a keeper who actually met and perhaps exceeded expectations when the pressure was at its highest.

He was clearly referring to Kane, who was the only one in the building to know that it went in. Stop that crap, you telling me an assistant captain on that team is going to throw one of his teammates under the bus right after the loss?

Give me a break.

If it wasn't for Leighton's play, we wouldn't have even reached the playoffs that year. And as Matty said, the guy was third string that year--getting picked up off of waivers. He vastly exceeded the expectations of anyone's inmagination.

You say he gave up 20 goals in 6 games, but check the playoff stats--he led the playoffs in GGA and Save %.

Also, maybe if Timonen didn't get juked out of his jockstrap on Kane's move in the corner, maybe that beach ball doesn't go in.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

I know this is old news, but since it's on my mind I went back and watched the reply of Kane's winning goal. If we're going to be assigning blame for who gave up the weak goal, Darroll Powe (#36) deserves as much blame as Michael Leighton. Notice his weak ass clearing attempt that Brian Campbell easily kept in, then got to Kane. Powe had time to make a solid outlet play, either via break out or at least putting some juice into his clearing attempt. Instead, he made a weak attempt at putting it off the boards that any d-man could've kept in play, which led to Kane's goal.

With this example, I'm pointing out that it's a team game. Teams win and lose together. Powe had a great playoffs and I became a fan of his, despite his mistake at the end. So did Leighton. To sit and throw a player under the bus is silly.

:thumbsup Well said. I hate Chris Pronger, but he's always been a killer teammate. Someone I would've loved to have on my team.

I only disagree with what you said about Timonen. I thought he did his job of keeping Kane to the outside. With Kane being on the left and being a lefthanded shot, as a d-man, that's right where you want him. Timonen probably felt he didn't have to rub him out of the play (many times making a hit on a guy is detrimental because it takes YOU out of the play as well) because he had good positioning on him.

I guess quite a few Philly commentators were wrong then, even though that wasn't the first time Pronger took a shot at a teammate publicly.

Not sure where I said otherwise, but my comment about his Finals performance was factually accurate, no?

Flyers beat writers are horrid, and always look to find a way to take a player out for page views.

Hah, I feel the same way. The NHL needs fans more than any other league, and yet the supposed diehards are by far the least welcoming.

I don't know why you would think that. We're a pretty tight knit group and are welcoming. We throw shots at each other, but it's all in good fun. If you misinterpreted that, then I'll be the first one to apologize.
