Re: The NHL Thread

So if I've done my math right (lord knows that's not my strong suit), everyone from Philly down is officially eliminated in the East. That leaves ten teams left. NYR and Montreal have clinched and Tampa will with one more standings point. So really it's 7 teams working on 5 remaining spots. Honestly, I think the 8 that are in right now end up being the 8 that get in. I don't believe in Florida. I want to, but I don't. They've got a massive game with Boston coming up that I think if they lose, they're basically done. Plus their ROW is so bad they can't end up tied in points, that does them no good. So I just don't see it with the Panthers. Ottawa has been wicked hot until this past weekend and have now dropped 3 straight. I don't really believe in them either. They've got a couple huge games this week too, specifically with the Wings and Caps. If they can pull out wins in both of those they can make it really interesting, but they've got some tough games coming too against the Lightning, Rags and Pens. That's on top of the aforementioned Wings and Caps games this week. So it's a big hill to climb for the Sens.

In summation, I think we've got our 8 playoff teams already in the top 8 spots. Hopefully I'm not jinxing my squad when I post this.

Re: The NHL Thread

Tend to agree but scared for my team. Seems we are down to 9 with the Sens having a chance. I agree FLA is probably out. Only 4 out, but only 6 games left. They go 4-2 they need Boston to only win twice and that still only ties them in points and BOS as the tie breaker. While I am losing faith in my team, tomorrow is the biggest game of the season. A win would put them 8 points up on the Sens and that is tough to overcome with only 6 left after that. Still Wings can't keep the puck out of the net. Not sure how they go from dominating arguably the best team in the East, playing good defensively and getting solid goaltending, to that abomination yesterday.

If the Wings don't make the playoffs, I'll paypal you $30. If they do, you paypal me $5.

No that's ok. I think it all hinges on tomorrow. If they can win and put the Sens back 7 points, that's a lot to overcome for Ottawa. Not over if the Sens win, but makes it tough.

people started to recognize what was happening and by the time they scored the third goal the place was going crazy, louder than it was all night for the basketball games.

the sport of hockey, college hockey in particular are criminally underrated.

Best game the Hawks have had in a long time. Great effort all around. Big 2 points.

Kings have the Oil twice, Colorado, SJ, Vancouver and Calgary.

That game against Calgary is basically their playoffs. If they win that, they should be in. They easily could go 6-0 in that stretch.

And, they won't. If they do, they are out the first round. So I hope they don't get in.

Why? I'd rather get in (hehe) and have an extra week or two of hockey. Not like they are gonna get McDavid or anything so 16th or 17th? I take 16th. Now if I'm a Sens fan and they end up missing, I'd be pissed cause they had a nice top 10 picking and now they gave me hope only to barely miss (if that happens).

I just personally would rather have them not make it than get eliminated the first round. Either way, both options suck. This team is tired, banged up and the emotion is just not there. Been a rough year for them and I think it'll do more damage to get any hopes up by getting in the race.

Yeah, sorry, I don't get it. who cares if you get hope up? I expect the Wings to lose in round 1 if they get in because of how much they are struggling right now, but I want them in.

Re: The NHL Thread

I can see saying you'd be ok going in round 1, just to get in but sort of wanted them to get that break because they've played so deep the last few years but wanting them to not get in because they will lose in round 1? Don't get it. I'm shooting for year 24 knowing the chances are good they'll lose. I don't see the benefit of being 9th in the conference. Now between 9th or 30th overall, I see cause that pick can do something.

Re: The NHL Thread

even if you guys had some way of knowing that your teams were guaranteed to lose in the first round it's a silly way of thinking.

both the kings and red wings have goaltenders that could heat up all of the sudden and change the entire series.

Oh I agree, though I don't see that happening. I just want an extra week of hockey even if it's only that. Playoffs are fun. I'm sure even knowing the Jackets were gonna lose to the Pens last year, you would have still enjoyed those 2 wins. However, not sure Howard will heat up from the bench tonight though. Maybe a mild sweat.

absolutely, that playoff series was amazing for me.
i can see how you could easily be spoiled but playoff hockey is one of the best things in sports, how could you not want to see your team participate even if it's only for 5 or 6 games?

I'm gonna be anxious as heck tonight. This shouldn't have been such a big game. It should be wrapped up or all but wrapped up by now.
