:lol

Yeah that is what I remembered. I knew it was a hawks fan at some point. Backreading is funny as I came in hot with the Flyers hate in that thread. I remember I went to Boston to see the Bruins v Flyers series 3-0 Bruins for game 4. Flyers won that game...and the next 3 so I was bitter at Philly at the time. I was still fond of the Bruins as I had just moved back from Boston like a year or two earlier.

It is crazy how time changes things; I obviously still don't love the Flyers by any means, but Philly has become one of my favorite cities to hang out in the past 5 years.

I also can't believe that Oktoberfest trip was that long ago...god we are all so old now :shrug

Two rough calls against the USA. That said, Canada found another level and were the better team who finished their chances. Good luck in the gold medal game!

Would be a lot more upset if this was the gold game. Don’t really get too upset when it is before then.

The calls were right (at least) but the rule on that 1st interference call is/was bruuuuutal.

Called the Rangers blowing this lead right after their PP in the third. They got lazy on that PP and played like the game was over. Immediately gave up a PP goal and now it’s tied. I don’t understand how you just get that lazy with 12 minutes to go against your division rival your chasing.

Went to the Canes game yesterday. Fun time but as expected they played like a team that was playing their second game in under 24 hours. Vancouver was as well, but the smelled blood in the water as Carolina was clearly not playing well.

Next up for me:

- NY Rangers game here in Carolina next month.
- Montreal game in Montreal on Feb 25th
- Calgary for the flames game Feb 28th against Boston.

Should be a fun month of February for me!

Definitely a game I didn't bother watching or even checking the score on until today. Bruins doing classic Boston things and using all of their talent up during the regular season. That is going to make it extra funny when they come up short again in the playoffs. :monkey

I am not saying I wouldn’t be happy to win it, but it has been 10 years now since a team that won the president’s trophy won the Cup. The Bruins have won it 3 times and lost twice in the finals and once in the second round with it. So my point is that it doesn’t do them any favors.

As a Rangers fan, I’d be happy just to be a cup contender almost yearly like the Bruins seem to be. That said, I would also be worried about peaking too soon if we won the president’s trophy a few times and aren't winning cups. Even the Rangers lost in the ECF in ‘15 with it.

Just remember a 30% chance of winning means a 70% chance you don't win. I don't know if people realize that. In almost all teams sports the favorite doesn't win because their chances are usually 25% of less anyways.

I’ll go one step further and say your stats are likely misleading in this case. The chances of winning with the president’s trophy dropped significantly in the cap era. Not sure if that 30% is representative of the current likelihood of winning with it.

There is that too. Expansion and what not. That said, if we go by the last 10 years, we are basically at 100% of the time the president’s trophy winner fails to win the Cup. Maybe Boston prevents that from happening this year?

Right now, I see three teams to be a PITA for the B's. The Canes, Colorado (when healthy) and TB (because, you can never rule out TB). Seattle and Vegas are right in there, too. I just think that the chemistry with Krejci back and guys like Clifton and Coyle playing well and Debrusk stepping up (hope he's back soon), they just are clicking on all cylinders. Hampus Lindholm hasn't been on the team long and has fit in well. And then Pasta, Marchand and Bergeron. What can you say, they are all playing well. Throw in a couple of excellent goalies who compliment each other so well, good things are going to happen. Barring any injuries (knock on wood), I see them going deep this year.

Re: The NHL Thread

Rangers had a let down last night as well. Had the Leafs on the ropes until the last 10 minutes. They had no answer once Toronto turned it on in the last 10 minutes and looked shell shocked. The "Kid line" was really the only one playing at a high level and somehow Gallant decided to not start them in the OT. The top players of Mika, Panarin and Kreider have looked lost the last few games with a few exceptions.

Overall I can't complain about the status of the Rangers. They are probably going to wind up 3rd or a W.C. spot. Don't see them catching NJ or Carolina. They are also a few deadline deals away from being a strong contender again (or totally missing the mark lol). Not sure what Drury can do with the cap issues though. If they can get half of what they got out of Copp, Vitrano, and Motte at the deadline last year I will be thrilled.

A rare Troy post in the NHL thread is like spotting an albatross! Hope all is well!

I think the Leafs post-season will come down to who they play in the first round. I am curious though, if the Leafs win a round and exit in Rd. 2, would that be considered a successful season at this point?

It's almost guaranteed to be Tampa I think.

I'm a Leafs hater, so take this for what you see fit, but I don't think winning 1 round would be a successful season. They need to at least make the conference finals IMO. On a bigger scale, I'm generally of the opinion that if your team doesn't win the championship, the season is/was unsuccessful.

Boston learned that it is not easy to play the old Southeast division right now. Tampa are still 3 time defending EC champs, Florida should be better than their record is and are improving, and the Canes are very good and a legit cup contender this year.

It will be very interesting to see how Boston does next time they see all of those teams.

I think I'm going to the Canes game in Raleigh in March as the wife and her gf who lives down there are doing (running) the half.

Florida looked terrible against the Rangers. Barely any life.

Which I am grateful for as the Panthers play has been much improved overall the past 15 games. Going into that Rangers game they were 8-2 in their last 10. The Rangers sent them into a 3 game slump though before they rebounded against the Bruins.

Florida and Calgary are interesting this year because they both should be better, but that trade seems to have made both teams slightly worse. Makes me think it might just be a chemistry thing that they are figuring out still.

Islanders made a big trade to get Bo Horvat from the Canucks. I wanted the Rangers to target him as I knew he would make them better without selling the farm. Great deal for the Islanders and might get them back in the playoff picture.

For the Rangers, I wonder and worry that it might mean they are all in on Patrick Kane for way to high of a price. Hopefully I am wrong, but I feel like they always make the wrong choice in these moments.

It's easy for me to say this now, but I had this feeling the moment the trade was made. It never made any sense to me.

Canes are better than Boston in my opinion. It is a great time to be living in the RTP area and having that caliber of hockey on display almost nightly. The funny thing is I have a friend that I take to 1-2 games a year and they still have not seen the Canes win somehow :confused

The only game I've been to so far this season was Caps-Yotes in DC

Which is fine, it's not like the Sharks are worth going to go see *holds nose*

Karlsson is finally healthy and doing what they brought him to SJ to do and they suck so bad :lol
