Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

That didn't take long. :lol

It will take a complete and total turnaround for this series to go past five games. Six goals in three games is fucking pathetic, and they came out asleep in their own building with a chance to go up 2-1. Not to mention going 0-for-5 on the PP, and the reason for so many blocked shots is because they couldn't get quality looks all night. The Rangers aren't even that good and they're outplaying the Flyers in every way.

Not that it matters though. Flyers will lose in the first round and everyone will still love them to death and ignore the fact that the front office has been completely inept for a decade and nothing will change.

bonzo48280 04-22-2014 08:38 PM

Poor Tampa. Will always wonder what if Bishop had played. Can tell you a few of those goals yesterday don't happen.

Wings have another bad first period that set the tone for the game. They looked out of it though and not all cause of the Bruins. Passes were just missing and the puck was bouncing on em. Gotta have a better first period on Thursday if they want to lose in in 6 like I had thought.

Kings...wow. Assuming they don't blow a 3-0 lead, I think SJ will beat the Ducks in round 2.

Chad's a passionate fan but he gets too fired up come playoff time. He's not wrong in some of the things he said. But there's a reason he comes in here only at playoff time and it's to get a stir out of us hardcore Flyers fans. From what I can see, Chad is more invested in the Phillies and Eagles over the Flyers. So the grain of salt must always be taken.

Also this. I realize the owner needs to loosen his grip a little and we need a full front office change. (Even though I'd like to see Hextall get a chance as GM. He may be a "retread" in the Flyers org, but I think he had some help in making the Kings what they were in 11/12.)

But the Flyers are one of the 8 in the East that made the playoffs. They're not the Panthers or Sabres here....

I don't think we need a full front office change. I just think management has to be patient and let the team grow every few years. But that's connected to a wired in owner who is desperate mode for a Stanley Cup.

They also need to revamp and retool their talent evaluation in the drafts, but once again, that needs time.

I think this offseason will be vital to see if any of this change is coming. For once there shouldn't be a real need to get a goalie. I hope they can focus primarily on helping out the defense and not spending too much on an old washed up player.

Dude, stop being a Flyers apologist. They are supposed to win every single game in the regular season and the playoffs. No excuses. If they don't. The team sucks and trade everyone. Paul Holmgren should get back on a bike and ride into a ditch again.

Obviously don't follow the Flyers much but agree with the owner. I understand wanting a Cup badly but clearly what they were doing, with change after change, wasn't working. And just because I saw this yesterday... :popcorn

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

The Rangers really started to show their mettle during about the last quarter of the season. It's like they finally came together, bought into what AV was selling, and are now reaping the rewards. They are playing creatively with the puck, which is cool to see. Almost like they are loosening the grip on their collective sticks and starting to have fun... huh... kinda like they don't have a fire-breathing serial killer on their backs all the time (he's in Vancouver now). I know I bring him up a lot, but Nash has been particularly good in all areas this series. Not always showing up on the scoresheet, but involved positively in every play.

Flyers are getting the right idea, but there needs to be a commitment to the organization long-term. Mason was a step in the right direction, which a lot of people gave management crap for. Same with trading Richards, which management also took crap for. Sure, maybe for every good deal they made, they made three bad ones. But overall, they need to show they have a long-term vision for the future of the Flyers. We're seeing glimpses of that, but still some work to do.

But one cannot deny the dramatic turn-around the Flyers experienced on the ice this year. Kudos to them for sticking it out with Berube and letting things sink in for the team.

I thought you did a dandy job defending the integrity of our thread while I slumbered.

EDIT: Actually, I think the thread has stayed pretty solid so far this playoffs. Usually the breakdowns we experience are pretty severe come playoff time, but so far this year has been fairly tame.

Haha Fiset. I've always wondered what happens to the Avs had Roy not melted down in Montreal, and they had to go with T-Bo and Fiset. Can't imagine they get past Detroit that year.

The Avalanche organization would have two less Stanley Cups.

Sakic, Forsberg, and Foote were all there, but Roy was the final piece. Not only that, but the fire with which he approached the game completely turned around the locker room and spread to the rest of the players.

Underrated in that deal was Mike Keane. Talk to any player on that 95-96 club, and they all say Keane was a big part of instilling that winning attitude througout the roster and really leading the club, having been there before with MTL.

Forgot they got the Habs captain out of that deal too. lol I'm happy it happened, even though it made my 13-year old self almost cry when they lost in 96. I remember thinking "finally get the finals and get swept. Win 62 games and lose in round 3. They're never gonna win." But it made the Wings make changes and get guys like Shanny and boy was 97 and the rivalry that was started, ever fun.

The Jackets just want to get down 3-1 in the series so they can come back and win in 7, since 3-1 leads are the worst lead in hockey.

:thumbsup The great thing about that rivalry was that it motivated both teams to get better every season, with each team trying to get a leg up on the other. It was like no other team in the West mattered. In that sense, it was very mutually beneficial.

:lol:lol Ladies and gentlemen, this year's Avery award winner.

Maybe we should put a more positive spin on the award, call it the Chirping Lappy award or something? That guy remains one of my top 5 favorite NHL-ers of all time, and apparently he was a brilliant trash-talker.

I was thinking that yesterday. We've seen 3-1 goal leads get blown, maybe a 3-1 series lead too??

I don't even know who you're talking about. Avs don't have any rookies this year.

EDIT: Disappointed Maata didn't get a nom.
