Just reading his tweets. He sounds like a real beauty, that's for sure.

I'm thinking Bryz ends up back in Phoenix/Seattle.

Edit, just saw this;
Flyers will pay Bryzgalov approximately $1.63M each of the next 14 yrs to not play for team.

It's amazing that they were playing the Sabres in a closely contested playoff series just a few years ago.

Since then both of those front offices have done nothing except produce straight, liquid diarrhea.

Yup. Awesome to see people getting on him. The biggest thing taken from it is that the players will never want to talk to you now so you are hurting yourself professionally... Douche.

Also with the Bryz. He's getting $23 million over 14 years of uncapped money, which is peanuts to a franchise that makes well over that in revenue a year

Flyers management needs to be cleaned out.

This is absolutely ridiculous. Why would you go out there, pay all that money for a goaltender, and then buy him out because he was a "locker room cancer"? Didn't anyone do any homework on the guy? You have Chris Pronger on your roster, and you didn't go to him and say, "Hey Chris, we're thinking about signing Ilya, good idea? Is he batshit crazy?". Honestly, every time the Flyers take one step forward, they take four steps back.

Funny people mention the CBJ....

Was listening to Hockey Central on Fan590 over the lunch hour, and they were saying that the CBJ have asked the Flames for permission to speak with Miikka Kiprusoff in an effort to get him to stick around the NHL and sign there.

That all makes less than zero sense to everyone else right? I mean, he's all but confirmed he's retiring. Granted Kipper has regressed a little from his top level form, but why would you bring him in anyway? So he can back up the reigning Veznia winner? Or is it to make Bobrovsky compete for his job? It's a head scratcher folks.

Good question, but yeah I was seeing the same thing. I imagine it's a bit of both... be a mentor for BOBROVSKY while being good enough to challenge him to play to top form every night. Much like the Avs are doing with having Giguere backup Varlamov. If you read quotes from Kipper, it sounds like he's all but done, but you never know what will happen once contract numbers start being thrown around...

Still, I tend to agree with you. It's a bit strange.

EDIT: This, of course, is assuming that BOBROVSKY is a Jacket next year. I think he will be.

More security here than in the KHL. I think he stays. Hope he does for their sake. He leaves, yeah just fold cause you finally catch a break and get a guy who comes to you and does well, instead of the other way around, and you can't keep him.

Rebecca De Mornay 06-25-2013 11:04 AM

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I honestly think CBJ will be a very decent team next year if he stays. They played so well down the stretch and will be adding 4 top prospects (3 first round picks and Ryan Murray).

I was talking to a guy who works for the team and he said this was the first time ever they had a core of guys stay in Columbus during the offseason to work together.

Fun story time!

Everyone (at least used to) shit on Kane for being a bit of a dilll-hole however I was listening to Prime Time Sports last night (Canada's biggest sporst radio show - should really check it out 4pm-7pm EST 590 TheFan, outta Toronto)

Anyway, Scotty Bowman was on talking all things Hawks and shared a great story, showing Kane's true colours. When he was an 18 year old rookie he acutally lived with Stan Bowman, who was an assistant GM at the time (I think). It came the time when he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's Lymphoma, things were understandable tense/sad/un-nerving around the house. Stan was constantly in treatment, and when he was at home was always sleeping.

He offered to put Kane up somewhere else to get away from it all. Kane flatly tuned him down, and said he wanted to be there to help. To help with their 4 and 8 (again, I think..at the time) year-olds. Scotty referred to Kane as being a secondary father figure for the boys during those tough, tough times. He would get home after a game or whatever and spend tons of time with them, helping in anyway he could.

Perhaps some of you were already privy to this story, but it certainly opened my eyes and changed my perspective on the guy immensely. :thumbsup Patty Kane, now go slay some bitches.

Looks like Ference won't be back with the Bruins. A great teammate and leader, even if his on-ice skills have diminished over the past season or so. He's being pushed out by all the youngsters in Boston's organization (Bartkowski, Krug, Dougie), but I'm sure he'll land himself a 1-2 year deal with another team looking for some leadership. I actually wouldn't mind him as a 6-7 guy on the Avs.

Horton might stay if he takes a cut to be with his bromance Lucic, Jagr and Ference definitely done and I see Peverley or Kelly being moved. Chiarelli just said he doesn't want to use the buyout. How about Tuukka's agent saying 6 years 39 million lol that won't help us very much on trying to keep Horty.

Edit: with Ference leaving it feels like the beginning of the end for the 2011 cup team, kind of sad as a Bruins fan even though he didn't have a great year.

I did, by all accounts, he is a genuinely good guy. He gets a bad rap for his partying, and I think some things are incredibly exaggerated or fabricated (like his "choking" a girl at Madison).

I've met him before, and he seemed like a good guy. Granted, anyone can seem like a good person in 10 minutes, but from all accounts, he's a real person and a nice guy. He just likes to drink and have sex with random people. Awesome! Why not? You're a 24 year old NHL player that has 2 Stanley Cups, 1 Calder, 1 Olympic Silver, 1 Conn Smythe, etc. Fuckin' live it up 88.

I've met him before, and he seemed like a good guy. Granted, anyone can seem like a good person in 10 minutes, but from all accounts, he's a real person and a nice guy. Tonight at 11 PM will be our second podcast. We'll be talking about the buyouts and the NHL Draft. 30 minute show: http://flyers.thecheckingline.com/bl...yers-podcast-2

I stayed in the same hotel as the Hawks down in STL the year after the first cup (oh my god I love saying that). I met the whole team. Kane was very nice and was friendly with everyone.

Jonathan Toews and Patrick Sharp were absolutely the shit.

I feel so lucky to have Toews as the Hawks captain. So lucky.

Bickell being moved off the top line in games 1 and 2 of the SCF was because of his grade 2 MCL tear in his knee.

Q didn't want him logging huge minutes against Chara right away on one leg.

People really need to stop questioning Q. He knows what he's doing.

I'm just referencing the mass groups of "OMG WHY ISN'T STALBERG PLAYING?!?!?!" or "STOP FUCKING WITH THE LINES OMG!" that was seen everywhere.

Nice :thumbsup. I enjoyed that. I like your opinion on the Flyers goalie situation. They need to find a solid back-up who can created a good tandem.

So Kunitz re-signs for a minimal raise so that's good news for the Pens.

Board of governors meeting today and still nothing resolved in Glendale. I'm very interested to see how this one plays out today.

Already a big day. Vinny being bought out by TBL. $$ wise makes 10000% sense but marketing-wise they could take a hit. There's another UFA for July 5th. I think he heads to the Habs since all those rumors for years.

$2.142857M per season through 2027

I think he goes to the Habs as well. Maybe the Leafs though.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I'd take him on the Wings for a cheap short-term deal. He'd actually be better on a team like the Wings than Leafs or Habs in my mind cause he'd be part of a team instead of being expected to be a big point producer.

Eric Francis was just speculating but brought up a point. Reunite with Feaster in Calgary. If I had a choice it sure wouldn't be Calgary.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Now that I think about it, he wouldn't be a terrible fit in Colorado. We've got the cap space (he'll be making significantly less anyways), and is that experienced, talented vet the Avs really need on their roster. I'm not crazy about getting him, but he would fit in, methinks, especially if the Avs are able to trade Stastny and (fingers crossed) draft Seth Jones (yeah, right).

EDIT: And yes, Tim, I can also see him in the winged wheel.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

So do they go ahead and give Stamkos the "C" in TB? Or do they let St. Louis serve out the rest of his career as captain? I've kinda jumped on the give-your-young-star-the-C-and-let-him-grow-into-it bandwagon, but it would be cool to see St. Louis get it for a couple years. He deserves it.

Of course, that all depends on St. Louis remaining a Lightning. But I'm thinking with Lecavalier going, St. Louis stays.

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

Stamkos is what I'd do. Let him take over the locker room now.

This seems most likely to me as well.
