So rule changes for the new season came out. No more spin-o-rama moves in the shootout. Seems like a weird thing to forbid to me

It makes perfect sense. I always hated seeing that in the shootout. I mean, this just isn't fair to the goalies:

If we're going to have shootouts deciding wins in the NHL, which is already gimmicky enough, let's at least make it a somewhat fair fight. It's not really that forward continuation that makes sense. It's weird to me that it was an exception in the first place.

Something like this isn't quite as bad:

Yeah, ok I see your point. I never knew it was an issue, but after watching those clips I can see why goalies beef with it. The Bertuzzi wasn't as bad like you said but still I can see the point. There's not a lot of forward continuation there, and there's a straight stop on the first two. So yeah, makes sense now.

Guess I never thought that deeply on it

Those first two were really bad. Both looked like the started skating away from the net on those. If it is fluid like the Bertuzzi one that'd be OK but I guess you can't make that distinction.

And I think that's pretty much it. It could be so subjective, that you just need to say no period.

did anyone ever get called for the jersey tuck penalty last year?

remember how pissed we all were when they first announced that?

:lol Not that I saw. Hossa still did it all the time too. I think they basically just wanted Ovie to stop with that absurd extra back pad tuck he wore:

I know Ovie was at least warned about that once or twice last year, but I'm pretty sure he never actually got called for it. I do feel like I remember it being called in preseason though somewhere around the league

Re: The NHL Thread

There was one preseason penalty for it, if I remember correctly.

Not that it is the same thing at all but my pants do that on their own. I have Warrior pants and that back pad sneaks out and tucks my jersey in. I have to keep pulling it out.

I am also tentatively saying that you can pick 4 players as keepers with one of them being a goalie.

Any disagreements?

Mine too. Bauer Vapor pants. I actually typically half tuck on purpose.

I mean, I already said my two cents on why I'm not a fan of that, but it sounds like that's what we're gonna do.

Just out of curiosity, why don't we just draft this year all new knowing that it's a keeper league, and make it a keeper league going forward?

aeroshady 09-12-2014 04:33 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

I am finally in. Let me know what you guys decide on the keeper or not. For what it is worth, I have players I would keep and Chris has a point. In conclusion, I am good either way.

Re: The NHL Thread

I'm not even playing but it would be kind of stupid to just decide and start keeping players from last year. Start fresh this year and do it moving forward. That way everyone starts off even again and people can strategize their draft accordingly.

bradshaw06 09-12-2014 05:17 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

yeah i think it might make a bit more sense to start keeping guys from this year.

Re: The NHL Thread

I'd be interested in filling a fantasy league spot, if there ends up being one available. If not that's cool too. And as a new recruit I'd obviously be in favor of no keeper league :lol
