How did your teams do? 4/6 made it from who I thought would on the Avs:
Duchene
Stastny
Varlamov
Landeskog

Cuts
E. Johnson
Hejda

Both the 'Muricans and Czechs will miss the stability Johnson and Hejda could bring to their blueline. Tomas Kaberle? C'mon, Czechs!

10/11 on hawks predictions. No Saad is still dumb.

Someone tweeted out about how good Russia's offense would be. We said the same thing 4 years ago. Didn't matter then.

I'm a little surprised about Giroux being left off. But again, you look at the roster and who would you replace? Maybe Benn or Carter. But both of those guys are a little bigger and more physical than OMGCG.

He's crushed about it to. You can hear it in his voice with the post morning skate interview he did.

It's because they wanted 4 lefties and 4 righties. It's that simple. Stop being an idiot.

Definitely not Benn, but yeah, he's Canada's "Yandle/Ryan". I think him off is more surprising than St. Louis.

Hamhuis is the only one I think is a little...shaky. Rick Nash and Toews were easily the two best forwards together in 2010.

Be nice to see the Wings..err...Sweden get a medal. I remember the headline from 2006. Red Wings 3, Finland 2. Zettergerg, Kronwall and Lidstrom scored for Sweden.

Might go to 1 night at Northerly Island since it's walkable from my apartment. Probably just sit at the beach and listen to the music though instead of actually paying for a ticket and going in.

From twitter, latest OLY odds... CAN 2/1, RUS 9/4, SWE 5/1, USA 6/1 CZE 11/1, FIN 11/1, SUI 25/1, SVK 30/1

Russians are too high, Fins are too low imo.

I'll just hit up my normal spot here. Traveling just doesn't happen much anymore. Might be doing a trip to Alaska this summer too, along with Disney in December so money will be tight for extra stuff.

Well yeah. But it's still not very probable. Just because that team came very close doesn't mean we expect this team to beat Canada. That's not how it works.

While I agree with this second statement, the first I don't. The US team is a very good hockey team. The Canadians clearly have the best group of forwards.

You are right that not many US forwards would make the Canadian squad, basically just Parise and Kane. BUT, even with that said, the talent gap isn't nearly as wide as you're making it out to be. Yes, the Canadian group of forwards is clearly the best. Only the Russian's top 6 can really rival it (I'm not a fan of Geno or Ovie though so...that's a moot point in my eyes).

From top to bottom though, the US has a great squad, and that's all that matters. It should be a LOT of fun to watch. There will be some incredible hockey, and that's what we should focus on. Let's root on our American boys and enjoy the greatest game in the world being played at it's absolute highest level instead of basically handing the gold to the Canadians before a puck is even dropped just because they have the most talented group of forwards...because I can tell ya...that's not how it works.

But wait, remember when that Russian powerhouse squad won Gold in 1980?

Also, :thumbsup to everything you said. :)

I think both Canada and the USA fail to medal. Repeat of the the World Juniors this year. Sweden pulls of the gold over Russia. Czech's take bronz.

Will be rooting for the USA hard though!!

Comparing 80 to now, that Russia team was so far ahead of everyone else in the field it wasn't funny. Canada isn't that far ahead of everyone this year.

Also, disappointed Chris made no comment about semen.

At this point even Parise couldn't crack that roster. Obviously when you are talking about so many great players, you are rigth the gap isn't that wide. But the cumulative effect of Canada's group of forwards vs. the USA's group is pretty significant IMO.

Ok, agreed. US certainly has a really good team and of course when it comes down to a single game, anything can happen. But I wouldn't expect the US to win more than 2 or 3 out of 10 games against Canada's team. That's why I say it's a significant mismatch.

But the idea is the same. Don't count out a determined group of professional players. Regardless, can't wait to cheer on the boys!

No I agree that's what I'm saying. If that US team could beat that Russian team, anyone can beat anyone now. I like what the US has been doing the last two Olympics. Taking note from Herb Brooks, trying to put the best team together, not just the best players. What was the line from the movie? "I'm not looking for the best players, I'm looking for the right ones."

Eh, confirmation bias at work. Just because it worked that time, doesn't mean it is a reliable strategy. All of these players are incredibly determined to win Gold. Obviously you have to put a well-rounded team together but in the end you need to maximize your talent.

It's not a reliable strategy to put the best team together? I am confused at this logic

Are these reliable? Some interesting dates. No Alpine? WPB on my birthday. Mother in Law is nearby. Have always said we have a babysitter to hit that tour stop.

As for hockey, Bernier not sharp at all tonight. Isles with 2 gimmes. 2 more points for Okposo (on the non gimme goals). JT closing in on Kane. Liking this team right now. Sucks that Nabby went down again as we only started played well when he came back. Hopefully, it is not too long this time.

bonzo48280 01-07-2014 06:23 PM

No Alpine pisses me right off
