Most of these long term deals are somewhat relying/hoping on the cap going up and/or short-term solutions to get AAV down.

I feel like the vast majority of contracts in the NFL and NHL these days are "Fuck it, we'll deal with the back end when we have to".

Chiming in late, but I went to Avs and Red Wings at Coors Field and had a great time (even if the Red Wings won, grumble, mutter)

I sat in the upper deck, but I think those wound up being the better seats, imo. The seats aren't as steep at Coors Field as they would be at Ball Arena, so the first tier at a ballpark had more of a straight-on view than sitting in the upper deck

So I'm saying if you have nosebleeds, it might work out for you

the avs have had slow starts the last 2 years. it just takes them a couple weeks to start firing on all cylinders after they've had an extended time off (start of season and covid breaks). they'll be fine.

rough game for the avs in calgary. they seemed tired after having to play the night before. rantanen missed a wide open shot on a PP that would have tied the game. instead calgary goes on a breakaway right at the end of the penalty to score. changed the entire game. frankie got hung out to dry all game. 2 on 1 shorthanded goal, the breakaway, and 2 powerplay goals. can't do much when you don't have a defense in front of you.

I both agree and hate this take :lol.

The Whale was and are awesome. I hope the Canes wear Whalers Jerseys for the remainder of time every now and then. That said, I am glad this jersey is a break from it.

Just looked through the Reverse Retros: Looks like we are back to some amazing 1990's looks!

Love:

NY Rangers - Statue 1990's look! Some wanted the white ones again, but I am glad they just went for almost the exact original jersey look.

Boston - I always loved the Bear and I am glad to see it back again.

Capitals - Great logo and cool to see Ovi wearing it again as he started in that jersey basically.

Pens - Easily one of my favorite looks. As much as I hate the Pens, I used to like them a lot more in the Mario/Jagr days and this jersey reminds me of that.

Islanders - Bringing back the Salty Seaman is elite! Good for them.

Hate:

Red Wings - Meh and come on

Devils - Ugly jerseys are a Jersey thing guess

Chicago - again, meh

Calgary - Don't like the bottom stripe

The rest are all okay with some being pretty good and other being mid.

Can't wait to pick my Rangers Jersey up!

Mixed feelings about them basically throwing it back to Rockie Hockey — that's a different franchise altogether, but I think it would be a little silly for the Devils to skate around with the Colorado flag on their chests

As for hockey the hockey; Loving the start the Rangers are having. Last night was a little dent in the armor though. Not going to stress over early season games, especially against non-division rivals.

Re: The NHL Thread

The Rangers are a completely different team playing in front of backup goaltending. Same thing last year too. It is almost like they know they are going to lose and it turns into a self-fulfilling prophecy. The season is still really too young to be overly concerned. They have a back-to-back with Colorado and NYI this week that will definitely be rough. They could find themselves under .500 if they don't pick up their play. The Met is going to be competitive so falling behind early might be an issue at the end of the season. I won't panic until mid-November though.

That said, I think I still feel the same way I do about them at this point last year. They are a good team, but not a great team. I do believe their 5 on 5 play is better this season, but they still rely too heavily on special teams and stellar goaltending to win games. They might need to make some good depth moves throughout the year to take that next level from good team to legit cup contender. Otherwise, I am not sure they go as far as they did a year ago. So much hockey still to play.

drakan 10-24-2022 03:39 PM

Re: The NHL Thread

I don't think Halak is that good. 5 goals on 21 shots. Oof. Biggest difference so far is that the Rangers finally have a positive shot differential. Basically they've given up too many shots for the last 10 years.
