I agree with the no goal.

1) Possible kicking motion
2) Possible goalie interference
3) Possible Net Off

That is enough for me.

Pens are losing players quickly. That could easily be another head injury....

Yikes talking about this earlier today and then that hit

Yeah I don't think the head is the main issue right now. I mean it could be but his left leg bent in half when he was hit.

Just jumping in. I don't think Niskanen had any intent but I agree with the general consensus that it has to be called. Not sure if a game misconduct is a bit excessive though.

Seems like it's been a pretty eventful game

Honestly the more I look at it the more I tend to agree with you

Niskanen takes a pretty good shot there. And it actually looks like when Ovie caught him in the back of the head on the way through it was much worse than I realized the first time I watched it.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

Tough second half of the period for Kuznetsov there. Two penalties both of which were pretty clear calls and then the semi whiff on the net to allow Fleury a chance to make a save. It was a tough puck to handle but that's a finishable play.

Game 4 will certainly be interesting. The Caps just got back in it but the Pens showed they can and will come back if you give them enough chances. And quite frankly they earned those chances at the end of regulation. But the Caps didn't let that tough finish sink them tonight so that should give them a lot of confidence going into Wednesday.

Yeesh the more I watch that Daley call at the end, I just don't know about that. Daley didn't wrap him, kept his arms out of his mid section, stick was down, got inside position but never pushed excessively, honestly can't ask him to recover much better than that. Like I said I'll take it, but man. That's tough.

Really? I've seen that a lot from them in the past. It's always been an issue.

I will say I'm glad the Caps are getting traffic in front of the goal with regularity. But yeah the shots wide and easy blocks are really getting old.

Wins a win, less so with Sid out tho.

I don't think it was intentional personally. Guys cross check each other around the net all the time. Sid was just in a bad position. No way that is anticipated.

Never should have went to OT.

Good game by Braden. Still lots of bad bonces vs. the Caps. Off Alzners butt, off 77s stick.

On to 4.

I don't agree. A win's a win no matter who's out there. The Caps showed good resilience to not let the end of regulation sink them. Tonight had to be a win or it was hopeless. They got it done. I don't think Sid getting hurt negates the value of that.

Cullen hook was missed, but a lot of hooking calls go missed or swallowed during the playoffs

Refs were awful and inconsistent on both sides, but both teams got 5 PP's

This. If Ovechkin or Backstrom are out I don't value games any differently. They aren't what makes them a great team, it's the depth and role players. Goes for both teams

Also, with Wikles Barre blowing the #1 seed in the first round, I fully expect to see Sheary scratched and Sestito called up. And he will be given orders to just go after Backstrom and eliminate him for the series

I turned it off at 2-0 and then was about to go to bed and checked my phone and... 2-2 I was like well this series is over. Good on them for not folding where they clearly could have. Most teams would. A huge win for them.

Reading some of the reactions about Crosby's injury some people seem to be thinking it was intentional and are pissed about it. Not just the injury but the play. It was a freak play, the Caps got a major penalty and one of their top D out of the game. Upset that it happened? Sure. But upset like in that split second Niskanen shouldn't have done it and could have stopped? Come on.

I keep going back and forth on whether or not the hit on Sid was dirty or not.

The more I like about it I think Nisky should have pulled up. The puck was going the other way and Sid was already on his way down. Who really knows, though.

Although I will say that if a Flyers fan things it's #GarageLeague then it's definitely bad. :lol

Lastly, even though they lost, I think I'm more proud of the Pens this morning than ever. What a game. They could have easily folded, but they played balls out.

Interesting bit of news here. League is far from clean on this issue but shows why we can't have nice things. If players can't agree on getting certain things out of the game, than how will we ever get it?

After sleeping on it, it still sucks what happened. I really don't think there was intent to injure. If anything, I'm more pissed about Ovi's stick being in close proximity to Sid's head immediately before the hit. The puck's on the ice, dude.

I'm super proud of the Pens for battling back. It would have been great to get that win in OT, but oh well. And none of this calling up Sestito crap. The best retribution is to knock them out of the playoffs yet again. That starts by winnin Game 4.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

posting this before I back read.

Aside from the hit, that was one entertaining hockey game last night.
Refs have just been fucking awful so far this series on both sides.
I dont think Niskanen's hit was intended to hurt but he was reckless with his stick and wasnt shying away from giving Crosby a pop.

Hopefully Sid is okay. One of the radio reporters saw him walking brisky in a full suit before OT started and supposedly winked and said "Im ok" to one of the arena staff. I was scared for both the knee and the head, but I guess the knee is okay. Never can tell with concussions, he couldve been ok last night and woke up with headaches today.

Aside from that, really admired the Penguins effort last night. That was the Caps best punch and it barely got them a win with no 87 in the lineup. Gonna be an interesting game tomrrow Sid or no Sid.

MAF is a fucking magician. That is all.

Yeah don't think any intent, I mean it was a split second decision. I mean in that 2 second window, Niskanen keeps his stick down, no penalty. If Crosby doesn't fall, no contact to the head. No way for Nisky to pull up at that time.

To the second part, exactly. You are just escalating something that had no intent and was a freak play. You want to payback, win. It'll be tough if Sid is out but they did pretty well last night considering.

This missed puck carry by Johansson in Ot on the play that led to the Daley penalty was baaad

That penalty was also weak, really thought he got a piece of the puck. Missed hook on Cullen was bad as well. Lots of missed calls, and extremely inconsistent across the board.

This is where I'm coming down on this. I don't think he skated in there with the intent to knock Sid out of the game. I think he skated in there to give Sid a hard hit. Saying he was reckless in the process is a good way to put it.

The missed hook on Cullen was the worst of the night. I actually didn't have a problem with the call on Daley as much as I knew the PP would probably end the game.

I cant get over this puck carry. So blatant, and right in front of the ref.

BTW, did anyone notice how gassed Kessel was after the Malkin goal? He could barely stand up. NBC had a great shot from behind the Caps net of Pens celebrating. When they all skated away (slowly at that), Kessel couldn't keep up and they all skated away from him toward the bench.

I started laughing hysterically because all I heard in my head was Cartman from South Park, "You guys! You guys!" Wheezes heavily "You guys! Wait up, you guys!" :lol

Crazy Uncle Phil cracks me up.

I can't really get over ovechkins hit to sids head either. Felt sick to my stomach after that series of events.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

I didnt get bothered by that as much, Ovie slashed him in the back/arm before that which shouldve been called then he got careless with his stick and it smacked sid in the head, I didnt think he meant to do that, but thats what got Sid off balance.

Pens are going to need malkin to be malkin ala canes series in 09.

I said that to my wife last night. They really need Batman Malkin to show up and be the answer to Superman Sid.

That and no more patented Malkin Bone Head Penalties

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

No reason for Pens fans to have a meltdown even if were without sid for this series, they were a little discombobulated after he got hurt and then found their footing. They can beat this caps team without Sid.

I think Sheary will be okay, I noticed the equipment manager gesturing to someone when they were going down the hallway and he pointed at his upper lip area. So it may just be a dental issue with Sheary.

Anyway, new day.

Your original post on the matter stated that the win was "less" because Sid got hurt (your word, not mine). I don't agree with that assessment.

Further, you've now implied that I or other Caps fans are somehow excited that Sid got hurt, which as a) not true and b) not the point.

So yeah. New day.

I mean, the tied it up without 2 of their best players, and only 10 skaters. I think any team would have went through after their star went down like that. They fought back.

Not melting down yet. But, as Mark Madden would say, the degree of pucker has increased; a little bit.

Rob Rossi doing Rob Rossi things last night to get clicks to his new website.

God I cant stand that fucker. So classless to go at Trotz then write that clear bullshit article saying Ovie shouldnt be allowed to play in the playoffs after hitting sid with his stick. The guy is a disgrace to media everywhere.

Was really impressed with what I saw of the pens play last night (from when they pulled MAF on). Not having seen the majority of the game, it just felt like they'd tie it up after they got that first goal.

Yeah, he went off the deep end. The trotz comments don't make sense in that video, and his article saying Ovi should be banned from the playoffs is laughable.
