Hawks are the best team in the league right now but a lot can change. And there is also a lot of luck involved in winning the Cup. Olympics also throws a wrinkle into things (Hawks were pretty poor after the Olympics the year they won if I remember correctly but pulled it together again in the playoffs).

Bonzo is still crazy for not considering the Blues a very very legit team. They are really good, top 3 team in the West and probably top 5 team in the NHL if you ask me. The only thing they lack is serious high end forward talent. I don't consider Alex Steen high end talent.

bonzo48280 12-01-2013 12:42 PM

I will never ever consider a team lead by David Backes a legit threat.

bonzo48280 12-01-2013 12:49 PM

The guy took a 10 minute misconduct the other night to "get his team going." I believe they lost 6-1

Hank is getting 2 goals in support each start, on average. Talbot is getting about 2.7. Hank has given up 4+ in a game 5 times already this year (26% of his starts). The rangers have not beat a team this year when their opponent scores more than 3 goals.

Ok that was more of a joke, but honestly I thought if anyone it could affect him, the way he plays so much deeper in his crease compared to some other goalies. That doesn't make sense to you? I'm not knocking the guy he's still a great goalie.

Holland said a minimum of two games. Thankfully they said it's relatively minor so here's hoping. They are still like a week away from Datsyuk returning too. Helm and Alfie better keep it going.

Agreed all around. They really missed an opportunity for jersey greatness here...

Yeah, I'm sure it has to do with Disney/rights but if they were planning on wearing them for one game this year, they really should have had the foresight to earmark them for their stadium series game.

Seriously, was there a reason they wore them that specific night? Or was it just for the hell of it? I can't remember but they should've saved them for the stadium.

That's honestly what I was thinking. Makes sense to a point I guess but some of these teams will never be in the Winter Classic most likely so let them go old school.

I'm not surprised. The NHL now has a healthy business model (as long as they don't lapse again and go through another lockout). Plus the addition of a team in Markham, possibly Quebec and Seattle too--the NHL is on the up and up. Even with the lockout the league was seeing some great returns.

Agreed. There's something weird about those logos. I'm not a huge fan of either. The Kings is much better than the Ducks though.

Great story from Proteau about the respect level around the NHL and how it is enforced by veterans:

Quote:

It was the 2001-02 season – Sean Avery’s rookie NHL campaign – and his Detroit Red Wings were taking on the defending-champion Colorado Avalanche. Avery’s reputation as a big-time trash-talker already was well established from his formative years in the Ontario League – and when Avs captain and Hockey Hall-of-Famer Joe Sakic lined up near the Wings bench before a faceoff, Avery stood up and yelled at Sakic to get his attention.

However, in the two or three seconds it took Sakic to turn his head toward Avery, Red Wings veteran and star winger Brett Hull stood up, reached around another Detroit player, grabbed Avery by the back of the jersey and unceremoniously yanked him back to the seated position before he could utter another word.

You do not get to talk to Mr. Sakic,” Hull said.

And that was that.

Avery could have been a great agitator had been able to stay around Hull, Yzerman, Shanny, Lidstrom, and Cheli and on and on with the names, for a few more years. He was traded for Schneider the next season. The ESPN The Season show about the Wings in 02-03 was great. Hull even talked about him saying "he makes me look like I'm silent" which is saying something, and that give him time and he'll be alright. Too bad too. He could have been such a pain in the ass but within reason. Instead he became the biggest douche in the league.

I hate long contracts for goalies because you just never know with them. They can be great one year then streaky the next, like Fleury. But yeah, with Rask's worth ethic it seems like a steal now unless he implodes.

:lol it actually wasn't as bad as that picture makes it look, for whatever reason that section is always empty. Lower bowl was 60% full and upper bowl was 90% full I'd say.

That's what I was looking at. 3 points out of third. Compared to even the Atlantic, which isn't too much better, they would be 8 points out of 3rd.

They haven't won back to back games since the end of October.

Having said that, they have been pretty dinged up and are starting to get healthy (except for Bob, hopefully he's not out very long) and I think they might be poised to make a little run here.

Does anyone know when Nasty Nate will definitely be coming back for CBJ?

He's started practicing but there is still no time table for his return.
I would guess end of this month/early Jan.

I know nothing of Nathan Horton. I thought he was abducted by aliens maybe. ;)

Guess Bobrovsky's off the case for a while.

Well that sucked. I don't feel terrible cause no Zetterberg, Datsyuk, DeKeyser or Bert but they could have won that game so that's the disappointing side of it.

Tim, I heard this morning that it was the first time since '06 that the Wings didn't have either Zetterberg or Datsyuk in the lineup. That's pretty crazy right there.

I just saw a tweet about that. Not sure if it's including last night or not but since 02-03 (Zetterberg's rookie year) they've only played 2 games without both of them in the lineup.

I think they also said since the last time it happened the Wings have the most wins in the NHL.

Also that was only the second time the Flyers won in Detroit since 1988.

will be in the building for pens v. sharks tonight

TK makes his return to the burgh :lol

but it should be a great game, both of these teams are red hot right now, and both teams can REALLY skate, should make for an entertaining early season matchup

I'm not surprised. The NHL now has a healthy business model (as long as they don't lapse again and go through another lockout). Plus the addition of a team in Markham, possibly Quebec and Seattle too--the NHL is on the up and up. Even with the lockout the league was seeing some great returns.

This isn't happening. That arena 'deal' is all but dead as of last night. No NHL support of any kind was ever given to this project. It was a hope and a prayer from the beginning.
