I am failing to see any logic to not taking unemployment or social security if you are eligible. If you have worked on the books for any length of time you have either directly or indirectly paid into both systems. Why on earth would you not take it if you needed it to make ends meet? I am about as fiscally conservative as it gets but I cannot fault anyone for taking UI or SS - the way I view it is that you are just taking back money that was taken from you in the first place - frankly we should get some interest on both since the money was not in a private account to generate interest for an individual but rather the facilitators are pocketing the interest.
