Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
I think this is going to be a fun series. Pens really need to make adjustments and bounce back strong game two. They looked run down already. So proud of my baby Penguins alumni.

Question 1: Is anyone happy about the Pens possibly winning a cup that does not live in western PA? Answer: Probably not. Unless you really hate the Preds (post about melting over the preds goes here and is something along the lines of: "Suban is a dirty cheat, Preds get all the calls, they are scumbags go Pens, I am very angry that the Hawks got swept"), I would imagine the rest of the causal fans would like to see someone new win the Cup. Question 2: Does anyone outside of DC like the Caps. Answer: Yes, yes they do. The Caps have a lot of fans and they have not annoyed everyone by winning many...caugh...or any...cough...Cups. The longer Ovi goes without winning a cup, the more fans that don't hate will want to see him win one. |

Besides, the Hawks won three fucking Cups the last six years. No one should be this angry. Have a Coke and a smile, mother fucker! (Love Eddie Murphy.) |
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Maybe it's because I haven't really paid that close of attention, but I watched the E:60 segment on SC yesterday morning about Subban. He didn't seem like that bad of a guy. Of course there was a bit with Melrose saying he's really inconsistent.
Then again, I haven't paid that close of attention to Montreal and Nashville over the last few years. I'm not sure I get the hate. |
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
I used to hate Subban when he was in Montreal years ago. He was a young player, cocky, and came off like a jerk on the ice. But I read, see and hear so many great accounts of the person he is and I cooled greatly on that hate in Montreal. I was excited he was traded because now I can openly root for the guy. He's just fun to watch. This is a game. It's supposed to be fun. Why do we have to take shit so seriously? That's another reason Milbury can fuck right off his high horse.
|
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
That's kind of what I thought. He came across as I a guy fans hate because he doesn't play for your team. But, if he did play for your team he'd probably be your favorite player.
|
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Yeah Ive never gotten the PK hate either tbh. I think hes great for the sport.

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Here's my thing with Subban, and admittedly where I need to dial back my vitriol towards him: He is probably my least favorite player in the NHL - I still hold to that - but I've had to accept that it's not his fault that I dislike him.
I've always maintained that the reason I don't like him is that he's not nearly as good as advertised. He's got a great shot, yes, but he's not a great skater, he makes dumb decisions, especially in his own zone, he's not skilled enough defensively IMO to be a top-tier defenseman, etc... In a word, he's overrated. But what I've had to realize is that he's not overrating himself. He's not advertising himself as the #1 defenseman in the game. PK Subban, as much as I don't like the way he plays, comes out and plays his game. The people I should be hating on are all those that overrate him. Because yes, they're wrong. Those that talk about him as one of the best defenseman in the NHL are out of their minds, but HE'S not one of the people saying that (as far as I know). And sure he's cocky, brash, etc. But he's also extremely charitable (wasn't it like $10 million to that children's hospital??), warm with fans, fun, a great community guy. He's the perfect personality for a city like Nashville that is absolutely nuts for their hockey team. Is he still one of my least favorite players in the NHL? You bet. Could I easily rattle off at least 20 d-men I'd take over him? Yep, probably 30. Does he belong anywhere near a Norris Trophy ballot? Nope, IMO. But do I need to dial back personal attacks on him a little? You bet. |

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
catfish guy last night being charged with disorderly conduct, disrupting a meeting and possessing instruments of a crime.
These better all get dropped. Thats insanity. And of course Ron Cook is saying the guy should get a week in prison, jfc. |
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
I think what scott said about subban was out of line. Especially coming from a guy that made the all star game as a joke.
|
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Should charge their same idiot fans for throwing shit on the ice during Game 7 of the ECF then...

Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
From WPXI:
JUST IN: Here's how Predators fan Jacob Waddell got the catfish into PPG Paints Arena last night: Waddell told police he bought the catfish in Tennessee, vacuum sealed it and drove it up to Pittsburgh. He then put the catfish IN HIS COMPRESSION SHORTS to sneak it into the arena. You can't make this stuff up. |

I think Weber was better for the Predators (the team), but Subban is better for Nashville (the city/hockey community). If that makes sense. |

I agree he should be charged. Can't have nitwits throwing shit onto the ice. Same goes for the jagoffs in Game 7. Although Ron Cook is a curmudgeonly jackass who doesn't know squat about hockey. Fine and probation and call it a day. If this was European soccer that dude would get a lifetime ban and the Preds as an organization would get fined. |

He did it during a stoppage so I dont see any harm at all. If youre throwing batteries/glass bottles or heavy stuff that can actually hurt people, and are clearly trying to (ie throwing @ the bench or whatever) then maybe go forward with real punishment. I mean, throwing hats on the ice is literally one of the best traditions in hockey. :lol I love that wings fans throw the octopus personally, I think its a cool tradition. |
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)

There's a difference between a team's tradition and throwing something that disrupts play or shows immaturity. The octopus is fine in Detroit, as are hat tricks everywhere. The catfish is an awesome tradition they've had for 14 years, and by doing so on the road in the team's first Cup final adds to how much fun they're simply having with this. We have a new, passionate and fun fanbse in the NHL. It was their way of saying, "hey, we're here and we want to mix it up with the Pens by showing off our silly traditions." Christ, can't people have fun with this game anymore? |
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Catfish did not offend me at all. I like the energy from just one game of this series. Whoever hoists the cup will certainly be deserving.
|
Re: The NHL Thread (where the Presidents Trophy matters!)
Still waiting for someone to throw a penguin on the ice.
