Look, Rick Nash is a very, very good player. But he has 7.8 million reasons to be loyal to Columbus. He is overpaid by at least a million and how many contending teams could add that contract?

With his skillset (augmented recently by a commitment to defense, of which now he is quite responsible), I guarantee some teams, if they don't have the room, would be willing to make it. He's one of the better all-around talents in this league, overshadowed by being essentially a one-man show in Columbus.

And how about Brian Murray saying the only "safe" players (untouchables) on the Ducks' roster right now are Selanne and Koivu??

Well, he's looking to spark a fire. He also said he isn't making this a rebuilding thing. He will trade a star for a star, not draft picks.

If that's the case, you can have JvR for Bobby Ryan (and I love JvR haha)

This was my thought. I wouldn't be surprised if he really has no intention of trading Getzlaf/Perry and is just trying to give them some additional, public motivation.

I agree that he's one of the "better" forwards in the league. But that's really not enough to earn that contract, IMO.

I respect the opinion, and I guess that's really all we're throwing around here.

I would be VERY interested to see him play with a talented group...say the Red Wings, as Tim brought up. We may be singing a different tune. Again, just speculation.

What does Nash make? $7.8 mil? That's $1.6 mil more than Toews so it is instantly too much. Toews contract is the biggest steal in the league.

If Toews was truly a captain he would play for the league minimum.

He offered to but the NHL stepped in and didn't allow it because it would set such a precedent.

I remember we lost a game to the Flyers with 2 seconds left 2 years ago. I forget how that year ended.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Team needs: 2 d-men, Center, Winger. This team D and G playing the way they have so far this year is going to lead to a first or second round exit no matter how well the big 4 play.
