Yeah, totally. It's crazy to think he has a shot, but the more I think about it, the more I could see him on that squad. Would be incredible experience for him.

The Hawks could send an absolutely absurd number of guys to Sochi:

Toews
Seabrook
Keith
Sharp
Crawford

Kane
Saad

Oduya
Hjalmarsson
Kruger

Hossa

Rozsival?

Guess who found Chris' comment on Reddit? Didn't know you went there as well.

@fs1otoole 'Remember the car Homer Simpson designed? Well I want that in a jersey'. Said someone in the Buffalo Sabres organization.

It also doesn't help at all that Steve Ott is the one modeling them.

in regards to the pens, my money would be on Niskanen moving.

Phil Kessel
TJ Oshie
Zach Parise
Bobby Ryan
Paul Stastny
James van Riemsdyk
Justin Abdelkader (replacing Legwand, the only guy on my initial roster who wasn't invited to camp)

Zach Bogosian
Erik Johnson
Jack Johnson
Ryan McDonagh
Kevin Shattenkirk
Ryan Suter
Keith Yandle

Craig Anderson
Ryan Miller
Jonathan Quick

I see Paul Martin and/or Brooks Orpik making the team on D. If for no other reason than the head coach and asst. Gm.

I think the D Matty listed are the best group to send, if Orpik or Martin make it, it's only for biased reasons.

I would hope that coaches/assistant GM's don't make decisions based on the fact that players are on their NHL squad, but I'm sure they do.

That would be unfortunate if they did. Not a bash on them, but the top 7 are perfect for working together to form a cohesive D unit.

EDIT: ^ What?! Chris and I agree on something?! ;)

Re: The NHL 2013-14 Thread

I dont think Martin would be 'only' for biased reasons. He was slated to be a key member of the 2010 team before going down to injury, and he rebounded extremely well after his terrible 2011-12 post season to be arguably the Penguins' best defenseman this past season. (Not saying a pen has to be on usa, just that he is highly deserving.)

Suter - McDonagh
Yandle - Shattenkirk
Martin - E. Johnson
Bogosian

Usa D depth is crazy though.

He's certainly good, no doubt about it, I just think my other corps is better. :)

I know when I look at stuff like this (since I'm such a defense nut), I don't just look at a list of defensemen and take the top 7 best guys or whatever. I like to look at who has which skill sets, who would potentially have good chemistry with who, which guys would complement the other in terms of physicality or offense, that sort of thing. All in all, I like the top 7 listed for all those reasons. You've got a great blend of all-around talent who I think can match up really well against any other roster and complement each other up and down the depth chart. You could interchange just about any one of the D pairings with any of the seven d-men and still get similar results.

Yeah, Martin's good, but I don't think he's the best choice when compared to the others. I love the Herb Brooks "I'm not looking for da best players, I'm looking for da right ones" approach, and Martin just doesn't feel "right" to me compared to the others. Mind you, in 2010 I would be singing a completely different tune.

New series the Bruins are putting out that starts with the game 6 loss. I love these type of shows and can't wait to see the whole Dallas trade go down.

Exactly. Plus, you have to factor in the fact that they are playing on the "big" ice in Sochi. These aren't American rinks.

Burke hasn't built anything since Vancouver. He inherited a lot of young talent in Anaheim and after they won the Cup he made some dumb moves that hurt them. Then Toronto...well...

Good read. Didn't know some of those folks were still FA's. Small typo I noticed when reading. In the Simon Gagne section you wrote "prolific score" when it should be "scorer".

Good work. I'll keep reading when you post them here.

He was the only guy in the NHL that could tell the Toronto media to shove it and let his team build and grow.

He had some great trades. He had some terrible FA signings.
