I mean, I hope Ovi returns for the playoffs and all...but at the risk of starting a political debate...he is somewhat responsible.

Anyway; 3 games left for the Rangers. Hopefully they finish strong and head into the post season with some momentum!

I mean this is a guy who has poisoned and disappeared political dissidents in the past, and Ovi still has family in Russia, so maybe give the guy a break?

Also, MAJOR lol guys for thinking a hockey player is responsible in any way for the invasion of Ukraine. :lol

No one thinks Ovi is at all responsible - that's a dumb bridge you're building there. But, we can certainly root against him given his buddy-buddy relationship with one of the worst people in the entire world who is in fact directly responsible for said invasion.

I know it is pretty much impossible to ask a fan of a player and team to take off the homer glasses, but I will try anyway.

Ovi was (and presumably still is) a huge supporter of Putin. He went as far as to tour for votes for him. He does hold some responsibility for what is going on in the same way that anyone who voted for Hitler holds some responsibility as well (or any other example you want to pick from history).

Obviously Ovi did not sign the papers to invade Ukraine, but surly you can't be so daft that you don't realize people that support Putin hold some guilt for what his happening now.

I will also point out that Artemi Panarin also still has family in Russia and has no issues sounding off about being anti-Putin at whatever risk and trouble it has and will caused him. It takes real courage to do that. It doesn't take much to stay silent as Ovi has.

You can be worried all you want about his goal record and legacy with the Capitals, but that stuff doesn't matter to the thousands of Europeans who have been executed by a war criminal that Ovi openly supports to this day.

Yeah, I agree with this mostly. I do believe anyone who openly supports Putin does hold some level (small as it may be) of responsibility for this. That said, no one here thinks Ovechkin is responsible personally for a massive war and potential world war breaking out. I just hope that playing in and living in our nationals capital that he has some ability to see Putin for what he really is and has changed his views. If not, there is no way it doesn't tarnish his legacy in the NHL (more than it already has).

Rangers v Canes game is going about how I expected. NY is competitive which is all I can ask, but I just don’t have them in the same caliber as the Canes currently. Rangers are starting to convince me they can win a round this year, but the Canes can win a Cup with the team they have.

It will be interesting to see what happens in the third. Will the Rangers push them, or will they fold.

Canes need to hang on for 6 minutes

Bruins humble #1 seed Florida, 4-2. They looked great, but they just need to clean up the last 60 seconds of every period and not let up any goals. Great win, though. :bounce :bounce :bounce :bounce

Re: The NHL Thread

I get the Rangers are resting players who are hurt and trying to avoid injury, but I am not sure riding a 3 possibly 4 game losing streak (one of the worst of the year) into the playoffs is the best move. Sounds like a recipe for a quick first round exit. Hopefully they come out with a strong game against a potential first round opponent vs Washington on Friday. If they lose that game too I predict they lost the first round quickly in 5 or 6.

What a night for the Bruins! They shutout Buffalo, 5-0. Ullmark's first shutout as a Bruins goalie against his former team! Patrice Bergeron with a hattie! And Head Athletic Trainer for the Bruins, after 29 years with the club, Don Delnegro's swan song as he will be retiring at season's end! What a career. :bounce :bounce :bounce :bounce

Crazy how time just speeds on bye. Congrats to Dustin on a fantastic career. I guess I can forgive him for 2014 now :lol (although that would be easier if the Rangers can win me one soon!).

Be sure to pass the Ants hockey love on to him as he moves on to the next phase of his life post hockey; but I am sure he and the Kings are totally focused on the task at hand with Oilers in round 1. One more run for him!

I know, I feel real old. Felt like yesterday he was drafted.

So many tears during the game last night. Going to be an extra emotional playoffs, what a rally for the team though. Win for Brownie!

That's going to be a good series.

I honestly think the Kings can knock off the Oilers too.
