All star fantasy draft tonight. I enjoyed watching it last year. Kessel going last brought the lulz.

I wasn't able to turn the game on till the 1st intermission. Then I was like holy shit. I'm pretty sick with a cold so it made it much easier to go to bed early.

When he had a clear look at the goalie. That pissed me off.

The team didn't really play awful, but the Preds are so, so good defensively and opportunistic on offense. So you can't cough the puck up. Hawks did, many times.

Yea, what the hell was that? Drive to the net and rip one. Dont give me this shy away spinarama bs with a weakass backhand. He pulls shit like that way too much.

more and more hockey players are trying to be too fancy when simplicity would have done the job perfectly.

:lol How hilarious would it be if Chara and Alfredsson got together and agreed to pick him last again, just as a joke?? :lol

:thumbsup Ever since kids started watching Number Four Bobby Orr, this has been happening. There's a place for it, but yes, the simple philosophy of getting the puck on net is almost always more preferable. Not only does it give the goalie less time to react, but it can lead to more scoring chances via rebounds.

It's almost like a nightmare, but whenever I've got the puck on my stick I can hear my old pee-wee coach yelling from the bench, "shoot... shoot... SHOOOOOOTTTTT!!!!!!!" with his eyes bulging out of his head. :lol

Unfortunately I think kessel will be picked fairly early by team Chara because Lupul is his assistant captain. And on another note how the hell is Lupul an assistant captain? :lol I know he's having a good year but he seems like a very random choice compared to other guys they could have chosen. How are the assistant captains decided on?

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Julien will also be coaching team Chara so it wouldn't shock me if kessel is a healthy scratch due to his lack of back checking. :lol

My buddy and I did a fantasy mock draft. He got the first pick and took Stammer. I took OMGCG.

I'm gonna be posting it up on the hockey site I write for so I'll post the link. My dumbass forgot about Tyler Seguin in the next to last round and stupidly took Pominville over him haha. Forgive me, Ricky

If I had first pick and didn't have any loyalty to any players I'd take Malkin. And how the hell was Seguin available in the 2nd to last round of your mock?

"The Checking Line- Flyers Edition," the site I write for, is selling $5 raffle tickets for a chance to win a Bernie Parent/Dave Schultz signed puck. Buy as many chances as you want, ALL proceeds go to the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia: http://flyers.thecheckingline.com/bl...p-us-help-chop

We glossed over him. And I didn't notice until I picked Pomminville. I said "fuck!" and he went, "I know... I'll take Seguin." I was pissed as shit :lol:lol

Here's the draft. And I was wrong, he took Malkin with the first pick, not Stammer.

Bucci ranks his top 100 players (this is 51-100). I don't agree with all of them, but still an interesting read: http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/75...urrent-players

This was my favorite part, written about #97 Brad Marchand:
Quote:

He is the kind of player you win with. He won't get 14-Down on your USA Today crossword puzzle but he is quick, nasty and relentless. Going back to Junior, AHL and now NHL, he shows up in big games. Yes, it helps having good teammates, but he is old-school nasty and does not care what you think.
:lol:lol:lol
God love Bucci

no Hawks in the bottom 50? should mean Kane, Toews, Hossa, Keith, and Seabrook are in the upper 50. Doubt Sharp is up there.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Lucic is underrated on that list. I think Luongo is too. Marchand might be a bit overrated I'm surprised he cracked the list.

Marchand has no right on that list and I don't care how much of a pissant he is.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Chara and Thomas will both be top 50. Not sure if Bergeron, Krejci, or Seguin will make the top 50 or not be on the list at all, I thought those 3 should have been in the 51-100 list.

I was surprised as well. He mentioned some of his parameters for choosing at the beginning of the article. The biggest one seemed to be whether he'd want them on his team come playoff time.

He

I don't think he should be on it but he's a lot better than most give him credit for, especially in this thread.

I think Seguin cracks the top 50. He's a very special player and I loved watching him be a monster last year in the playoffs

That pretty much puts Kane Toews Hossa Seabs and Keith in the top 50. Real on the fence about Sharpie though

EDIT: there is also no way that Kane Toews or Hossa are below Jeff Carter and no way that Keith and Seabs are below Edler or Streit. I like to think Sharp wouldn't be below those guys either, but who knows.

I'd be surprised if Seabrook cracks the top 50, but I don't watch too many hawks games so I could be totally wrong.

Apparently the Bruins players were encouraging Chara not to pick Seguin until he drops to last overall. :lol if that happens there will be a media shit storm in Boston over it even though its a joke.

Team Canada and all, probably one of the best defensive D-men in the league he just doesn't have the offensive stats to go with it.

Its a little too early to tell right now, IMO. If he has another playoffs like he did last year, then yes he belongs on the list. Guy has the skills to compete, like Lucic, but he's a complete bugger.

So, I hadn't been paying much attention to the allstar festivities schedule. Is this where they are picking teams for the game? And if so, why are they calling it a "fantasy" draft?
