Yeah. And whether right or wrong, other teams may not be willing to pay as much for a shot at Nolan Patrick as they would, say, Austin Matthews.

So who knows much about the draft class? I know it's not a deep draft but figured Wings should be in top 5 so wondered what they thoughts were on some of the kids.

I don't know too much. The projected #1, Nolan Patrick, was described as one GM to be like Sam Reinhart - smart, but not flashy.

So... yeah.

The only other person I know/care about is Cal Foote (obvs), who is projected by some to go in the mid-late first round.

Him and McDavid are going to destroy for Canada in the next Olympics/World Cup.

:lol

Canada is going to be stupid good next February but so is the U.S.

i will be disappointed in USA Hockey with anything less than a gold medal game appearance

would love to see Auston Matthews and Kessel on the same line (assuming Kessel doesn't get snubbed in 2018)

I mean I don't know what the Wings will do but I'd assume they'd look at defense depending on where they pick. The couple of D I've read about could end up being good but...you don't know. But to be honest you never know even in the deep drafts.

really curious to see how the metro plays out.
rangers currently have more points the MTL, their current first round matchup.
i'd love for them to finish in that W1 spot. Need to avoid Pittsburgh I think

Metro is so stupid this year

Rangers are an odd team, and not having home advantage might help them. Rags are 2nd worst in GAA at home and league best in GAA on the road

Yeah, it is pretty crazy how stacked that division is this season. It reminds me of the Central last year when DAL/CHI/STL/NSH/MIN all finished within about 20 points of each other - hell even the Av's notched 82 points and the Jets had more points than any team in the PAC that was not a top 3 team!

Metro was crazy last year too. Metro had more teams over 100 points than Central

Don't look now, but the Avs just surpassed the New England Patriots in total wins this season.

Only took them 65 games to do it.

Who was that team wearing orange and black last night and what did they do with the Flyers? Six even-strength goals?!

Thank you. I'm honored and grateful to be even a small part of something so special.

So GMs sending the recommendation to the competition committee to not allow coaches to take a timeout after icing. I know we've discussed this before but...thoughts? I think it's dumb. Is it going to create so much more offense for the few times it's used?

I mean... whatever. It's just funny to me that of all the things they could talk about, this is it.

i think it's really dumb

a coach should be able to use the timeout at his disposal. otherwise, what's the point?

also, if a coach thinks his players are too tired to be on the ice without a breather, that is often when guys get injured.

Goalies are bigger physically on average than they've ever been, they're more athletic than ever, pads are bigger, coaches are smarter in how they figure out defensive systems but yeah a timeout not being called for an icing, which happens once every 10 games? That'll do it.

Yeah injuries are a concern and yeah it's their right to use it. If they use it, then they have to figure out what to do late in the game if they need a timeout then.

Not to mention all the player safety stuff.

But sure, let's talk about timeouts during icing.

This is a classic case of 30 guys (31, with Vegas?) not being able to agree on the big issues, so they tackle the low-hanging fruit that they can agree on for the sake of saying the meetings were "productive".

hailtopitt 03-08-2017 02:16 PM

Re: The NHL Thread (lolcaps)

pretty sure an NHL Thread meeting would be more productive for the game than the GM meetings

i mean, within 10 minutes we'd have a league-wide Adam Foote bobblehead day, rafters full of banners and a team in Quebec
