It's mostly the mediocrity both on the ice and off. What is it, four total playoff games played over the course of their existence? They're just not taken seriously. No one would expect them to win the Cup, but if management doesn't seem to take the team seriously, and if even some of the players don't seem to take the team seriously, how could anyone expect the fans to pay good money and take them seriously?

If I'm not mistaken, there was a good buzz in the community when they made the playoffs in '09 and when they've made some important moves, but to witness disappointment after disappointment is deflating for fans of any team.

This is all true. People were really excited for the playoff games and then they got swept. There was good excitement after the Jeff Carter trade and then they started 0-8. The attendance at games isn't horrible actually, there is just literally no serious following of them in the community. It also doesn't help that they are in the Western Conference so half of their road games start at 9/10PM.

They won't be moving anytime soon, the city owns them so they will be fine financially. It's just a shame.

It's debatable how well football is working in Buffalo :lol

It's not an economy issue here, it's a hockey interest/performance issue.

No doubt about it. In related news I went to the CBJ game last night against Dallas. Virtually ever seat was filled and by the end of the game every fan was on their feet rooting for a tie when they pulled the goalie. I was shocked. It was the loudest I've ever heard that arena since the playoff games against detroit in 09.

Very cool to hear :thumbsup. We've talked about the negativity surrounding the team, but I am all for seeing hockey succeed in whatever market it's in. I would be just as happy as anyone to see NHL hockey work in Columbus and for the team to find some success.

Cool story about the fans, it's a perspective we wouldn't get without having you mention it. It really is a credit to the fans for sticking with the team even through the tough times.

Don't worry, we're right about in the middle of one of our slumps. We're a streak-slump team, no in between, and we've given up 9 goals the last two games.

That was just about the worst 1st period imaginable. The PP is so bad.

Q has officially lost it, though. He plays Michael fucking Frolik on the 1st line with Hossa and Toews....why? Kid has done nothing all year. Meanwhile, Stalberg gets stuck on the 4th line. We spend nearly 6 minutes of that period on the PP and Stalberg doesn't see the ice once. Meanwhile, we have Brunette-Shaw-Kruger out there on the 2nd unit. It's just nonsense. You have 3 borderline NHL'ers on the 2nd PP unit together. Just let that sink in.

Not to mention the dreadful PK that just gives up goals instantly....2 let in by the PK and another that was disallowed (and was a very soft call).

Thought this was a discussion board. My bad.

Just wondering, you think Q should stay? I'm starting to become on the fence. Just no excuse for Stalberg > 4th line, Frolik > 1st line. Even after Frolik commits a 4-minute high-stick (same thing he did in Calgary) on his first fucking shift.

Well, the same things have been said since October. I'm tired of having the same discussion.

There has been, no doubt, terrible player management for the Hawks this season, and especially lately. Where to begin?

Lepisto: There is no reason this guy should not have been getting more of an opportunity, unless this guy banged Q's daughter. He has done nothing horrible in all of his time, and the thought that John Scott and Dylan Olsen are getting opportunities before this guy says something. Why is he even on the team? Glad he's playing tonight.

Montador: This guy has not been nearly as bad as the majority of people would say, because he has been stuck with OD and John Scott all damn season. The 3rd worst PK in the league, and John Scott is getting PK time before Montador? What does it take for this guy to get a chance?

Frolik: Without question, he plays his best when with Bolland, and that line played very well at the beginning of the year. Why they have not gone back to this is questionable.

Bickell: Plays his best game of the year against Vancouver, looks to have started to turn the corner, get benched for 3 games. I just don't get it.

I can very well keep going. You pile that on top of Q's ease in switching lines on a period-by-period basis, but will make no adjustment on the PP or PK schemes, especially when Kitch's PK scheme of a triangle +1 system has given him bottom 5 PK his entire coaching career.

I don't get it.

Here's what I don't get. Yeah, it was a stupid play. He waited too long to make the pass to Keith, it get deflected bounced in the air, Keith couldn't keep it in >>> 2-on-1

But to bench him for the entirety of the 3rd is just plain stupid when he brings so much energy. Frolik fucking took a 4-min minor (his 2nd in 3 games) in the first minute of the hockey game but he still got more looks on the 1st line after that.

Stalberg fucked up. Ok, yeah, on the same shift that he kept the puck in because of his effort on the fore-check. Doesn't mean you just say fuck off to one of your 6 most skilled forwards for the 3rd period.

Crawford was terrible. Godawful side to side on the first goal....4th goal completely loses his net like usual.....5th goal he just doesn't move. He played horrible on a night when the team as a whole played a pretty strong game and really fucking worked for it.

Anyone watch Wings vs. Ducks tonight? The best regular season game I can remember seeing in a very long time. I'm a Wings fan though, so I'm admittedly biased, but both teams just played great the whole way through.

Great, intense game. 19 in a row bitches! Joey Mac looking good. See ya later Conks. lol

It's all about the refs, huh? How about sestito grows up with the post-whistle bullshit that the flyers are SO good at??

Rangers have dominated the period either way.

First bold: Sestito is a punk
Second bold: give me a fucking break, you homer.

:lol what can I say? The flyers are always putting bodies to the puck, some of them late. I know every team does, but with philly, it's every play.

Hey, they have not been this physical as of late but their last two games against the Rangers they decided to play with edge. They're tired of losing and being pushed around by the big bad Rangers. I like seeing this.

Probably has a lot to do with the fact that its an intense division rivalry between 2 good teams.

I'm certainly not crying. Just have a hard time taking a player like sestito seriously. THree fights last week in what, 7 minutes of ice time?

This power play is disgusting today. Amazing passing.

I don't take him seriously either. And apparently, I'm in the minority with this opinion to the Flyers fans. It caused a big debate the other day when I wrote a piece on it haha.

I recall the debate. :lol. Rangers got really passive there in the second. Better get the next goal or we may blow this one.
