Solid thread here. I need to stop in more often. It's pretty hard to find anyone to talk hockey with. What teams do you guys root for?

Islanders for life. Favorite team/sport.

Have watched nearly every minute of every game for as long as I can remember.
First games were with the Cup teams so I've seen greatness. If we ever get a new owner and arena and spend some money, maybe we'lll see greatness again. In the meantime, I'll enjoy watching JT mature in an elite superstar and hope some of the rest of the young talent develops too.

Had 1/2 season tix paid for with my own money as a teenager with older brother. More affordable back then.

Hopefully its not as boring as the games between these 2 teams have been the past few years. They've played some serious snoozers the past couple years.

It could be. They are arguably the two best defensive teams in the league, which could lead to low scores.

What a job by gaborik. Waits for the puck to bounce once off a blocked shot, then one times it inside the left post. He broke a pretty log drought there too.

That was barely even a hit :lol Ference was flying up the ice what was he supposed to do when a Rangers players steps in front of him barely moving?? Give up on the puck?

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

He didn't let up at all dude, that hit shows no respect for the guy your hitting once you see the numbers on his back you have to let up alittle bit thats how the game is played now, those are the types of hits that get you suspended in the NHL, I wouldn't be surprised if he did.

I'm not saying there definitely will be a suspension, I think your right about him not having a history. I've just seen similar hits with suspensions given out...I could really care less if he gets suspended I'm just happy we won.

You see the numbers, you need to let up. When will players learn that you can't shove a guy from behind a foot from the boards. He will get games, history or not.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

Our PP is embarrassing, it's actually somewhat amazing we have played so well with such an awful Powerplay. Our PK is top notch though, the bruins have a good PK too. I know its early to talk about the playoffs but I can say I really do not wanna see boston in the playoffs... tough team to play

Sean Couturier (+16) and Matt Read (+14) are 1st and 2nd in +/- among rookies. Read also leads rookies with 15 goals.

Bad news for the Flyers: Briere is their 7th player to be out indefinitely with a concussion.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

After seeing the hit, Ference gets three.

It doesn't matter if he barely got McDounagh. He was going in way too fast (which he admitted after the game), and got his numbers. Its a play the NHL wants to get rid of in the league. Shanny is gonna come callin'.

I have a feeling the Caps are gonna get obliterated in Pittsburgh today. We're taking a really shitty offense into a building that houses a team on a serious roll featuring a ridiculously hot Malkin. Gonna get ugly.

Of course Ricky doesn't think that was a dirty hit...

rickyh24 01-22-2012 10:31 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

It's still not dirty imo. Rangers player clearly just steps in front of him while he is flying up ice. I guess he is just supposed to give up on the puck. More players should just step in front of players and turn their back then. Seems to work well.

rickyh24 01-22-2012 10:34 AM

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

At what point do we just consider every hit dirty because we have all seen much worse than that hit. Watching it over and over again it is not that bad.

Re: NHL 2011/2012 Thread

The hit itself is not bad. Where they are on the ice is what makes it look worse. Defender is just as much to blame for that.

09-10 Blackhawks: Ladd - Captain. Campbell - alternate. Byfuglien - alternate. Kopecky - alternate. Brouwer - wearing an A right now. Versteeg - one of the league leaders in points.

That was one damn good team. Too bad it couldn't stick together.

You don't really understand boarding then, huh?

Where they are on the ice is what makes that hit dirty! You simply don't push a guy on the numbers into the boards like that. Especially when you are flying in with that speed, you have to realize when it is time to let up and not give him the extra push into the boards. It wasn't malicious, just stupid.

Hey fellas... allow me to indulge myself for just a moment? All the regulars in here will know what this means to me.

I'm going through security at the airport today, just looking around, until all of a sudden I think I recognize someone clear up ahead of me in the line... yep, it's Adam Foote.

I was bummed, however, as I was stuck back in line and he was already going through security. I chalked it up as a cool sighting and left it at that. Well, lo and behold, I get to my gate, and his gate is RIGHT NEXT TO MINE. He was on his cell phone, so I kept my distance, but I got up the nerve and approached him after, addressing him as "Mr. Foote." I felt like a little girl I was shaking so bad. :lol

All in all, we spoke for a couple minutes (he was with his family so I didn't want to be TOO intrusive). He was incredibly gracious, and when I told him he'd always been my favorite player and to this day I wear #52, he said, "Wrong number buddy, you should be wearing #19" (for Joe Sakic obviously).

It amazes me how approachable hockey players are, at least the ones I've met. Another cool story... while he was on the phone in the seating area, he noticed someone dropped their ticket as they were walking. He ran out, got the ticket, and literally ran the guy down to return it. Cool dude.

Thanks fellas. I had to do a double take when I first saw him... I was like, "nah, no way could it really be him." But there's no mistaking that nose. And the fact that his gate was right next to mine... I chalk it up to destiny... :lol

I hate this Tim Thomas story, or any story like it for that matter. I don't care who the president is at the time or if you agree with him, it's the goddamn White House and he is the goddamn President of the United States, almost no one gets this opportunity. Get over yourself.

Also, Tim nailed it when he said this is taking away from the story of Boston celebrating the cup. BS on Thomas' part.

Another reason to hate to the Bruins.

Pretty sure Jack Edwards should get fired for calling Bryz a "sieve"

Cool dude.

Glad to hear Adam Foote wasn't kidnapped. :lol:lol:lol

I agree. When i was a kid a few friends and I would hang out at the Marriott in Uniondale right outside the Nassau Coliseum and wait for autographs/ask for players sticks. Most of them were very courteous.

Off the top of my head, Sakic, Brind'Amour, Tanguay, Kovalev, Kovaluchuk, Foote, Drury, Sundin all cool guys... Roenick too, he would always chat with the fans.

some jerks IMO: Ron Francis, Recchi, Koivu, Messier (im a ranger fan, he just never signed) Koivu promised me his stick after the game but didnt come through. Francis would only sign "shards" as he called them, or hockey cards.

My stories pale in comparison to my friends brother who did the same thing in the early nineties and would give players rides from the Marriott to the coliseum like Brodeur and Lindros to name a couple.

Ive heard stories of Gretzky taking cards and bending them and then signing them. Also, Barrasso was known for being a complete doucher.

Ovie gets 3 games

I think its just right, cant take runs like that, leave your feet and target the head. although, i though michalek should have gotten a game for his hit as well.

I think three may be a bit much, but this isn't the first time with Ovechkin, so I'm okay with it. I wish he wasn't so reckless sometimes.

I also thought Michalek should've gotten a game
