I want to say Caps but think isles take it 2-1.
Tonight: Wild advance and Sens tie. IF Wings win, I want their next opponent to go the distance. |

Re: The NHL Thread
Preds fans can at least tell themselves they have a watchable team now. Plus, this series might have turned out differently with Weber in the lineup. Can you imagine how fucked the Hawks would be without Keith?
Also not too excited about yet another boring matchup with the Wild but is anyone surprised that the blues managed to fuck it up again? |
Re: The NHL Thread
The Blues are pathetic. I honestly feel bad for their fans. Either way, I have called the playoffs perfect so far (except amount of games).

tim, you just bring such a level of hockey analysis that even NHL players follow you. (Granted, can we even consider Hurricanes players as NHL-level players?)

Wings could use a winger if Franzen is done. Won't be able to afford him though, even if Howie is traded. Wings will be in for an interesting off-season.

I think Backes is gone as well. Just like blaming your coach is the easy fix now adays in sports, so is your captain. So you change the goalie situation, move Backes, and fire Hitch (hire Bylsma?), and maybe that's enough change to get people to buy in next year. Slap the C on Pietrangelo. Oshie could bring in a good return as well, I'm sure, but do they have anything to replace him? Guess it depends on what they get for Backes. |
Re: The NHL Thread
They both stunk (Backes and Oshie) in the first round so the argument can be made for both. Allen is your future so stick with him but of course get a veteran to back him up. Hitch is gone for sure though. That's your usual fall guy.

Also: http://espn.go.com/nhl/story/_/id/12...hl-team-source That's the market they should be going to. But I bet we get both them (if they get an arena) and Vegas. |

Re: The NHL Thread
:lol
i wasn't even being sarcastic. seriously, hipsters love to pretend to love hockey, so seattle wouldn't be a terrible city for a team. maybe a nice rivalry with vancouver but that's about it. it'll never have a huge stronghold. they'll just be another seattle sounders...fans show up and are loud but know nothing about the sport itself |

I agree they will be in search of a netminder. I do think Oshie or Backes will be moved. And yeah, later Hitchcock. |
Re: The NHL Thread
in all seriousness, it's sounding to me like there will be 3 new NHL markets in the upcoming years.
I still think Phoenix moves and then all signs are pointing to a 2 team expansion. I think it could be Vegas (which is dumb), Seattle and KC. Or maybe another Canadian city. |
Re: The NHL Thread
i say seattle would be a decent city for an NHL team
everyone melts about the penguins, who aren't even playing anymore can't make this stuff up never change guys |
Re: The NHL Thread
Really wish we'd contract but I know that ain't happening. Personally, I'd expand to Portland and Seattle and then relocate Coyotes to KC or Milwaukee. Then relocated FLA to Quebec and done.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
the part that isn't made up is when you melt and then accuse everyone else of melting. that's my favorite.

Vegas is going to be a nightmare.
at least the league is saying 500 million dollars is going to be the expansion fee, compared to the 80 million paid by the teams in the last expansion :lol |
Re: The NHL Thread
They seem to be taking their time examining it this time compared to others. Not letting casinos do anything at first to really gauge the interest, making people put down actual financial commitments and so on. I still think it doesn't work but that's me. The biggest problem will be if they suck long term past the commitment period for those season ticket holders. Expansion teams tend to struggle at first and it's going to be even though for teams 31 and 32 than it was for 27-30.

Re: The NHL Thread
h2p definitely melting right now.

Re: The NHL Thread
I wish it wouldn't happen, but all signs point to: Vegas expansion in 2017-18. Seattle expansion a season or two later, if they can get an arena. QC only getting a team if someone (looking at you, PHX) has to move.

i think the caps take it.
it will come down to special teams i think and the caps have been better all series. won't be surprised either way though and am rooting for the islanders. |

Re: The NHL Thread
To the goalie thing, it's good to have a solid backup just in case, but a clear cut #1.
I'm not sure what the Wings do speaking of that. If Mrazek wins this series and keeps playing like this in round 2 (win or lose) I think Howard might be gone. I see the positive of keeping him in case Mrazek has a sophomore slump but Howard's value probably won't be higher than it is right now. Waiting a year when they both play like a 1A/1B thing probably brings the value down. I worry about finding a good backup though. |

The Caps are going to Rock the Red and Unleash Their Fury all over the Islanders' collective face tonight.
But seriously, Go Caps. |
Re: The NHL Thread

My biggest worry is that with the last change the Caps can try and keep Ovi line away from Boychuk and Leddy as much as possible. I worry about Donovan and Mayfield tonight . If we get pp goal tonight (if we get a pp), it could be huge. JT and Halak need to be the 2 best players tonight and us getting the first goal is key . I have so much nervous excitement already. Can't wait to leave work . |
Re: The NHL Thread
I really hope my teams pulls it off tonight. Don't want the stress of a game 7 back in Tampa. The way the last 3 games have gone (minus that 8 minutes from hell) Wings have dominated them and should win again tonight since they have last change. But I keep thinking, they can't keep them down forever can they? Stamkos will eventually breakout right? Can the young kids, especially Mrazek, close it out? 4th win is always the toughest. Ask Scott Darling.
|
Re: The NHL Thread
I'm trying to go into tonight as calm as possible. Just another game 7, Caps usually lose these. Anything else is gravy.
